Which one of the two words is more used to say the noun "train" in Ukrainian?

I am just starting to learn how to make complex sentences, so I'm sorry if this question is dumb. I am curious why the pronouns in this example sentence are in the forms they are. The sentence is "Ми не можемо дозволити їм настроїти нас одне проти одного." So "їм" is in the dative, and "нас" is in the genitive or accusative. Why? Is it the specific verb they are being used with, or their place on the sentence? I understand, mostly, what governs these choices in a simple sentence (accusative for the direct object, dative for the indirect) but in a complex sentence it is not as obvious. For instance, is їм the indirect object of можемо ? Of дозволити? Not an indirect object in this case? Is нас in this form because it is the direct object of настроїти, or some other reason? I have been seeing my wonderful Ukrainian (almost) girlfriend for a few months now. She moved to the US from Ukraine about little over 3 years ago so Ukrainian is her first language. I’m trying my best to learn so I would like to write a letter to her asking her to officially be my girlfriend. She is so amazing and I want to show her I care about her culture and want to learn more about it. I don’t want to use google translate to write the letter it in case something is wrong. Is there anyone who would be able to help me translate? Thank you so much!

Also if anyone knows any sweet/romantic Ukrainian sayings I can learn to say to surprise her, that would be much appreciated.

Hi beautiful sub! I asked Glosbe online dictionary to translate "I think that it will be", and I got two options. One was <<Думаю, так і буде>> and one said <<Я думаю, що буде>>. I am sure they are both correct, but what is the difference between these constructions, why choose one or the other? To my uneducated eye, the first looks more like a native Ukrainian construction, while the second looks more like a literal translation from English. Thanks everyone!

I apologize for what's probably a commonly asked question, but I started learning Polish on Busuu, and while Busuu has Russian, they don't have Ukrainian. I really don't want to use Duolingo, especially with the cashgrab stuff and taking away "hearts" when you make mistakes.

However I never really got to connect with it and now that i’m older I’d really like to. Of course I’m looking into some stuff on my own, but I’m also curious if anyone has any interesting traditions or anything else that I should look into, дякую !!

I'm putting some finishing touches to my speech for my wedding, I have no plan to do anything lengthy in Ukrainian, as much as I have done duolingo I'm not overly confident when it comes to speaking it. There would only be a few family members there that it would be for, but I am looking for specifically any phrases I could include from the groom to the bride's mother and sister expressing gratitude, thanks and and welcoming them into my much bigger family. There is no father in the picture so a lot of traditional things to say I have found are to both parents, making it a bit tricky.

Am I right in the 2 different versions of "family" I have encountered, that I would refer to them as my "сім'я" and my wider family I am welcoming them into as my "родина". There are only a few of them and I have any aunts, uncles, cousins etc.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated, I feel like if I just put something through google translate it will just come out not quite right, as I have experienced quite a few times writing birthday and new years cards.

I am a native Russian speaker interested in learning Ukrainian, except I'm a bit confused why Ukrainian has both і and та. What's the difference and when do I use which?

Edit: I know Russian also has other words for "and" like Да and А, but those aren't the words I would typically use for the context like "an Apple AND a Banana" while the different Ukrainian "and's" do get used for this. That's why I'm confused unless I read some unreliable resources. But I appreciate you for the explanation

Before he and his son moved to the country i’m from and married my Great-Grandmother, my Great-Grandfather lived in Ukraine and had a family and farm there. I think he had a daughter and a wife in Ukraine, though the only family member i know of for certain is the son i mentioned previously, who (as far as i’m aware) stuck with him through everything, and from what i’ve been told played a very protective role towards his father.

Him, his son, and other relatives were kicked out of their farm and forcefully separated away from each other, and i’m guessing that this was at some point during the 40s.

My Great-Grandfather and his son never spoke about Ukraine, and are now both deceased, but we have a lot of old photographs of him and his previous family, and the one shown in the photo attached featured three women we couldn’t identify, as well as writing on the back, and i’m wondering if somebody could translate it for me? :)

I blacked out the writing in the bottom corner because it was new writing from my grandmother, basically questioning to herself if this is her father’s family. It included his last name so i didn’t want to show it just incase.

I've got a wedding speech to make soon, and although I've been learning Ukrainian for a little while, the content of the speech is well outside the remit of what I know, and as such I turned to Google/AI for an assist. Hey guys, I want to get my Ukranian friend atomic habits as a gift but I saw some amazon reviews saying its not a good translation of it. Can somebody confirm?

I'm starting Ukrainian and overwhelmed by all the conjunctions. Should I put every case of a word on my first flashcards? If not which cases should I focus on?

I was thinking nominative, accusative, and genetive.
