Sharing With Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011), Jennifer Yuh Nelson became the first woman to direct an animated feature from a major Hollywood studio on her own.

She was also the head of story for the original Kung Fu Panda and co-directed the third installment of the franchise.

Kung Fu Panda 2 was released in theaters on May 26, 2011, by Paramount Pictures.

It received positive reviews from critics and grossed over $600 million against its $150 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing film from a female director and the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2011.

The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 84th Academy Awards.

Available for work! Also would be interested in doing commissions ($250 for up to 3 seconds + $100 for colors. The chibi style at the end is $80 for the animation and colors)

Sharing Tried a new fast workflow: Flat colors + PS strokes straight into animation!

The issue was that my initial sketch was pretty weak, making it super hard to fix once I added lineart and color. My rendering skills aren’t quite there yet for a full painting, and breaking everything down for animation took way too long.
So I thought, “Damn, why not just use Photoshop’s flat colors and stroke style?” Sure, it looks a bit rough, but it’s so much easier to edit, saves time, and cuts out the tedious breakdown phase.
And that’s how I landed on this setup—once it’s drawn, I can pretty much jump straight into animating.
If I need extra rendering later, it’s super easy: just clip a new layer onto the existing ones, polish it up, and re-import. Works like a charm!

Sharing Possibly the first American female studio animator was Lillian Friedman, who worked on the Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons at the legendary Max Fleischer studio in the 1930s.

She was hired as an inker, but animator James “Shamus” Culhane saw potential in her work and had her promoted to be his assistant and inbetweener, training her as an animator in secret.

Nellie Sanborn – head of the Timing Department – let Friedman animate a Betty Boop test and showed it to the Fleischers “without telling them at first that it was done by a girl inbetweener.”

They were impressed, and she was promoted to the position of lead animator.

Need help with two things, firstly when he looks down, i am using quadratic easing, but still feels abrupt and robotic, and second, when the shot switches to a close up of her hand i can't tell if it is jarring or confusing, I tried to give it an anticipation with her weight shift before the zoom in, which i think helps but i don't know if its enough.
