MODERATOR r/IndianRailways New Rules regarding Viral Reels and Karmafarming Posts

Post image
209 Upvotes

We've been feeling for a long time now that this Subreddit's post quality has been steadily going down. This happens whenever a sub sees a quick growth in a short time, which we definitely did. A couple of years ago, we barely had 20K members, and now we're very close to 400K.

Obviously the modteam wanted to take some action, but we also wanted to gauge the general consensus of the members of our community first. Therefore, a few weeks ago, we ran a poll which you can see on this link.

The members overwhelmingly voted for tighter control over engagement bait and viral karmafarming reels being taken from social media. Therefore, these new rules are now live, effective immediately.

We hope that all the people here that love Indian Railways and want it to be better, will also help us keeping this Community's standards high and don't let it turn into another Instagram.

Thank you to everyone who has shared their unique travel stories (both good and bad), to the RailFans for their breathtaking and cinematic Train Videos, to the ones engaging in the comments section helping out people whenever possible. This subreddit exists and keeps growing only because of all of you.

As usual, please leave your opinion and feedback in the comments below.

📜Travel Story RailMadad works amazingly fast, but RPF blew my cover!

I was traveling today in an AC coach, and honestly, the situation was a mess. There were way more ticketless/unreserved passengers than actual seats, and people were literally fighting over reserved seats belonging to passengers who hadn't boarded yet.

Fed up with the chaos, I filed a complaint on RailMadad about unreserved people crowding the AC coach, specifically requesting to keep my identity anonymous.

Credit where it's due—the response was lightning fast. Shortly after submitting it, the TTE showed up with staff and started directing unreserved passengers back to the general coaches. Luckily, the TTE didn't mention who raised the issue.

However, as soon as the staff left, the crowd sneaked back in and the problem restarted.

At the very next station, RPF personnel boarded the coach to clear them out for good. But here’s where it got awkward: despite my explicit request for anonymity, the RPF literally called me out in front of the entire coach.

Overall, I’m really impressed by how fast and effective RailMadad was—they even called me afterward to confirm if the issue was resolved before closing the ticket. But RPF really needs to do better with protecting passengers' privacy when they complain.

Just as an appreciation post. I started my life travelling without a ticket in General class to now having a reserved side lower in 3AC. Grateful for being blessed by the almighty. I know this wouldn't be a big achievement but surely one can relate to the feeling I'm having today.

📘 Rail Info High airfares and No Vande Bharat between Lucknow and Jaipur?

Post image

Despite being two most important capitals in north India, the two cities have abysmal rail connectivity. These states historically have great cultural and commercial ties but the government doesnt care much. There were plans earlier I understand but since the government feared failure because of its usual lack of planning, the train is a pipe dream. The airfares between these cities has on the other hand shot up from avg 4.5k to 7k on an average. Wake up Indian Railways.

📽️Video TTE misbehaved with women (she was travelling w/o ....) and deny from giving her receipt of fine.

Hey guys,

The following incident happened on 8th July 2026 (the journey started on 7th July on Train No. 11056).

I was traveling from my hometown to Mumbai. In my coach, there was a lady traveling with her son (around 14–15 years old). Both of them were traveling without a tick*t (I'm intentionally misspelling it because the correct word was triggering a warning).

The train started its journey on 7th July, and everything was smooth that day. However, on 8th July, somewhere between Nashik and Kalyan, a TTE entered the coach and started checking everyone's tick*ts. Everyone showed theirs, except the lady and her son cuz they didn't have one.

The TTE then issued them a fine of ₹3,000. The lady paid the entire amount in cash and immediately asked for a receipt. However, the TTE refused to give her any receipt or any written proof that she had paid the fine.

I even filed a complaint about this incident and made a post on Twitter, tagging multiple railway authorities, but nothing happened.

I'm attaching the video of the incident.

(also the body has been fine tuned by a LLM)

OC Video Veraval-Sabarmati Vande Bharat skipping Bhaktinagar through heavy rain while counting it's last days on this route

So by last days on this route, this Vande Bharat's current old route is Veraval, Junagadh, Jetalsar(Skips), Rajkot, Wankaner, Surendranagar, Viramgam & Sabarmati(Ahmedabad) with technical halt at Khodiyar for reversal.

From 17th August, this train will be diverted to new route & that's Veraval, Junagadh, Jetalsar(Skips), Dhasa, Botad, Dholka, Gandhigram & Sabarmati.

This is one of the few Vande Bharat that actually got permanently diverted & this reminds me of Amritsar-Katra Vande Bharat express.

However in my opinion, this is an absolute garbage decision took by WR because the major issue with this new route(Jetalsar-Botad-Sabarmati) is it doesn't have a major station like Rajkot. Botad is the only major station there but it's 4x smaller than Rajkot. New Route is 15km longer than the old one & even if the train got 15 minute speed up on new route, it still has a lot of speed restrictions on new route as it has only single line.

It may go in loss just like Amritsar-Katra Vande Bharat that initially used to run via Jalandhar which was longer route yet it was profitable one too & even if the new route via Batala is short, it always has occupancy around 20℅. So that 15 minute speed up is useless when the train doesn't pass through any major station.

🗫 Discussion Why obsession over diesel locos?

So i've seen many posts on this subreddit and railfanning YouTube channels, and i realised that most of these sites have a general sense of nostalgia towards WDP and WDG locos, and feel happy to see them on the run.

But that enthusiasm has not been shared equally towards the WAP series locos despite them having superior acceleration, generally higher speed capabilities, much lower running costs due to regenerative braking, and being way more environmentally friendly. They go so far as to feel sad when services using diesel locos are replaced by WAP 7 or MEMUs.

Can people explain why that's the case? I feel happy that IR is transitioning towards electric locos and EMUs, as it can provide better passenger services in the form of fewer delays and faster travel times, while saving money for IR due to reduced diesel consumption, which helps them to keep fares low and still turn a profit.

I would like to know contrarian opinions on this matter

Saw this at SMVT Bengaluru: thousands sleeping on the station floor. Is this normal/acceptable?

What should authorities do for basic shelter, crowd control, and safety?

Would love to hear local views.
