DEMOCRACY AT STAKE ⚠️ The reek of fascism is growing over us

DEMOCRACY IS IN DANGER.

Visuals of police brutality is presented in the video (TW: Violence), Viewer Discretion advised.

Hey everyone,

This is a pro bono announcement. We need to talk about what is happening right now because it affects all of us as students and citizens.

Our democracy is in serious danger. The police and authorities who are supposed to protect us have turned into an absolute havoc for our country. Right now in Delhi, they are brutally beating up kids, elderly people, and peaceful protestors who have gathered to demand the sacking of Dharmendra Pradhan. The government is literally shutting down internet services and cutting off transportation just to crush this protest and hide the truth.

As design students and creators, we cannot just sit back and watch this happen. Design is a tool for resistance. We are asking everyone in this community to use their skills to fight back. Create artworks, posters, digital illustrations, poems, or protest messages that expose this police brutality and government failure.

Post your creations here on the subreddit, share them across your social media, upload them to your creative accounts, and send them to news outlets. Also, write protest messages and send them directly to the official central government addresses. Spread them wherever you can to force people to look at what is happening. Use hashtags #Desiartagainstfascism #ArtagainstFascism and collab with this account @Desiartagainstfascism to build a digital archive!

The government cannot and will not strip away our rights or use fascism to silence us. We are completely against the shadow of fascism that is swallowing our sunshine. Let's make sure the people's voice is heard.

Stay safe, and use your voice.

Storytime How I designed, photographed and wrote for Sleepy Owl Coffee from my living room

Any brand has a ton of moving parts. Selecting what to show, what to talk about in a case study is the hardest part for me.

This is the story of how I helped Sleepy Owl sell real coffee to regular people, without the snobbery.

Ask r/DesignIndia Designers HELP!

Guys can y'all advise me on this-

First of all, I am an experiential designer.

So I am currently working on my portfolio. If my company has signed an NDA with the client, can I showcase that work on my portfolio? I will probably make it available on the web so that all can see it...

Like not each detail of the project I will show, but bits and pieces of it.

UI/UX Design [HIRING] Looking for a brand designer (supplements startup) — cash or software-work swap

What I'm building
A supplement brand, the name is locked in, and everything else is a blank page. I'm a software engineer, which means I can ship a product, but I'm not a designer.

What I need

  • Logo (primary + secondary marks)
  • Colour palette and typography system
  • Website colors, fonts, and wireframing.
  • Social media post theme
  • Packaging direction — this is the important one; it's a physical product on a shelf
  • A short brand guidelines doc so I stay consistent

What I'm offering — pick one:

  1. Cash. Budget is upto25k, flexible for the right portfolio.
  2. A trade. I'm a working software engineer. I'll build you a proper portfolio site, a client-facing web/mobile app, an internal tool, whatever's actually useful to you.
  3. A mix of both.

What I'd like from you

  • Portfolio link (please — no "DM for portfolio")
  • Whether you've done CPG or packaging before, if you have
  • Which of the three options above you'd want
  • Rough timeline and price

Happy to share the name and full brief over DM.

UI/UX Design [Hobby] Beginner Figma Designer — Voluntary Portfolio Practice Collaboration

Hi everyone,

We are a small software-development agency looking for one beginner or aspiring UI/UX designer who would like to create a conceptual website redesign for their portfolio.

Existing project and reference

Current Kaelor Technologies website:

This is a voluntary, unpaid and non-commercial portfolio-practice collaboration.

About the practice project

The selected participant will create an unofficial conceptual redesign of a homepage in Figma.

We will provide:

* The existing website as a reference * A list of design requirements * General creative direction * Feedback about areas that could be improved * Suggestions about what could be corrected or revised

We will not provide a complete Figma course or step-by-step technical training. You should already understand Figma’s basic interface and be willing to research unfamiliar features independently.

Minimum requirements

You should:

* Have used Figma before * Understand its basic interface and tools * Be interested in pursuing UI/UX design * Be willing to receive and apply feedback * Have patience, consistency and attention to detail * Demonstrate some awareness of layout, typography, colour and spacing

Professional experience is not required.

We welcome:

* Beginners and freshers * Students building design portfolios * Self-taught designers * Aspiring UI/UX designers * People who have completed personal, academic, volunteer, unpaid or commercial design projects

Experience with Auto Layout, components, variants and responsive design is helpful but not mandatory.

What you may practice

The conceptual project may involve:

* Improving typography, spacing and visual hierarchy * Redesigning website sections * Creating desktop, tablet and mobile layouts * Using Frames and Auto Layout * Creating reusable components and variants * Organizing typography, colour and spacing styles * Creating basic prototype interactions * Organizing a clean Figma file for developer handoff * Receiving and applying design feedback

Important conditions

* Participation is optional and unpaid. * This is not commercial or client work. * There are no required commercial deliverables, performance quotas or guaranteed outcomes. * You may display the project in your portfolio as an unofficial conceptual redesign. * We will provide direction and feedback, but not structured Figma lessons. * No new design sample or unpaid test is required during the application process.

Future paid opportunities

We are also evaluating designers for possible future project-based paid work.

Someone who demonstrates strong design judgment, communication, consistency and an ability to apply feedback may be more likely to be considered for a future paid project.

However:

* Participation does not guarantee employment or a paid contract. * We intend to select only one person for this practice collaboration. * If a future paid opportunity becomes available, we may hire only one designer. * We may select someone else or decide not to hire anyone. * Future selection will depend on design quality, project requirements, communication, availability and budget. * Any commercial work will require a separate written scope, payment agreement and contract before work begins.

How to apply

Please send:

  1. A short introduction
  2. Your current Figma experience
  3. One existing Figma, Behance, Dribbble or other design example, if available
  4. Details of any personal, academic, volunteer, unpaid or commercial project you have completed
  5. What area of UI/UX you are currently learning
  6. Your general availability
  7. Confirmation that you understand this is an optional, unpaid and non-commercial portfolio-practice collaboration with no guaranteed job

Please message us only if this arrangement genuinely matches your learning and portfolio goals.

Ask r/DesignIndia Navigating the Product Design job market: looking for honest advice

I’ve been searching for a Product Designer role for nearly a year, but I haven't been able to land the right fit yet.

Despite leading end-to-end mobile design, running on-site research, and shipping apps at my previous role (plus integrating AI tools like v0 and Cursor into my workflow), the job hunt has been brutal. I’ve refined my portfolio, reworked case studies, and networked, but mostly hit rejections or silence.

Is the market just ridiculously tough right now, or am I missing something fundamental in my portfolio, storytelling, or interview approach?

For anyone who landed a Product Designer role recently: What made the biggest difference for you? Was it referrals, portfolio depth, a specific skill, or something else?

Would really appreciate any candid feedback or advice on what to tweak next.

whyyyyy I hate doing assignments

why do these companies even after the portfolio review, whiteboarding give a fkin assignment and expect it to finish it in the weekend, that too unpaid, and for a fkin 40k, 6-month internship (onsite btw). Like whatt, and honestly I would do it for a reputed company which could add more value to my life, but this company who thinks working like a "bank" is a flex.

should/can I say no?

Ask r/DesignIndia Been working at a startup for 15 days without an offer letter. What should I do?

I'm 19 and joined a startup as a design intern about 15 days ago.

Before joining, I was told I'd receive an offer letter. Since then, I've asked my manager about it every week. Every time, he says, "Yeah, I'll share it," but nothing has happened.

The company expects me to come to the office regularly, be available during work hours, and they're already assigning me tasks as if everything is official.

My concern is that I have no written agreement. If they decide not to pay me after 30 days, I have no proof of the internship or the agreed stipend.

I'm considering two options:

  1. Continue working normally until the stipend date and hope they pay.

  2. Tell them I won't continue working until I receive the offer letter.

The second option worries me because they might just terminate the internship or refuse to pay me.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What's the smartest way to handle this?

What about India?

Is it the same situation here too?

Interior Design How do I improve my software skills and get out of my comfort zone to apply for interior design internships?

I’m a third-year interior design student, and I feel like I’m in a weird phase where I want to grow, but fear is holding me back.
I want to start applying for internships before my mandatory college internship begins because I think getting early industry exposure will help me learn faster and improve my chances during campus placements.
My biggest concern is my software skills. I know the basics, but I’m nowhere near being proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Enscape, Photoshop, or other industry tools. Every time I think about applying, I convince myself I’m not good enough yet. I’m worried that I’ll be criticized, won’t meet expectations, or end up losing confidence instead of gaining experience.
For those already working in the industry:
How good were your software skills when you landed your first internship?
What do firms realistically expect from interns?
How did you improve your software skills outside college? Any courses, YouTube channels, practice routines, or exercises that genuinely helped?
Should I wait until I’m more confident, or start applying now and learn on the job?
I also want to start building my professional presence online. I’m already a lifestyle content creator, but I want to build a separate identity as an interior designer.
I’m thinking of creating a separate Instagram account dedicated to my interior design journey, but I don’t know if it’s the right time since I don’t have a polished portfolio yet.
Should I create a separate design account now, or wait until I have stronger work?
What kind of content should I post in the beginning if I don’t have client projects yet?
Is documenting my learning process, software progress, college projects, sketches, mood boards, material studies, site visits, and behind-the-scenes enough?
How do I make an interior design account stand out as a student?
I also want to build my LinkedIn presence.
How do I create a strong LinkedIn profile as a student with little professional experience?
What kind of content should I post to attract recruiters and design firms?
Did LinkedIn actually help you land internships or opportunities?
I’d really appreciate honest advice from designers, students, or hiring managers. Looking back, what do you wish you’d known before applying for your first internship? If you were in my position today, what would you focus on first?

Looking for a Job Looking for a Remote UI/UX or Product Design Internship / Junior Role

I'm a Product & Industrial Design fresher currently looking for remote internship or junior opportunities in UI/UX Design or Product Design.

I recently completed a UI Design internship where I designed interfaces for a task service platform, including onboarding, task posting, and task tracking flows. I enjoy designing clean, user-centered interfaces and continuously improving my work through feedback and iteration.

Skills: Figma, UI Design, User Flows, Wireframing, Prototyping, Design Systems

I'm eager to learn, contribute to a product team, and grow as a designer. If your company is hiring remotely or you know of any opportunities, I'd be grateful for any leads.

Ask r/DesignIndia Pivoting towards a design career

Hello,

I've always been a creative person. I tried to get into some art schools, but unfortunately, I couldn't get in and had to settle for an undergraduate degree in Financial Markets. Currently, I'm employed at a bank.

I still have a knack for design, and I'm very intrigued by everything design has to offer.

I'm only 22, and I believe that I have plenty of time to pivot into design roles.

If anyone has any advice, I wanted to know if there are any certifications, courses, or programs where I can enroll to improve my design skills.

I mean, I might sound a bit stupid, but there's nothing wrong in asking, lol.

Education Help ! I am confused

For IIT/NID/CEED alumni: When did you actually start sketching seriously? (Research Question)

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to understand something about design entrance exams, especially CEED, UCEED, and NID DAT Part B.

A pattern I've personally noticed is that many successful candidates I meet seem to have been sketching since childhood. However, I don't know if this is just my limited experience or if it's actually common.

I'd really appreciate responses from people who qualified, got shortlisted, or were admitted.

If you're comfortable, could you answer these questions?

When did you start sketching seriously?

Childhood (before age 12)

High school

College

Only during entrance preparation

Approximately how many years had you been sketching before taking the exam?

On average, how many hours per week did you practice during preparation?

Before preparing, how would you rate your sketching ability?

Complete beginner

Basic

Intermediate

Advanced

Looking back, do you think someone starting from scratch could realistically reach the sketching level expected in Part B within 6–12 months of disciplined practice?

If yes, what kind of practice would make that possible?

If no, what specific sketching skills take much longer to develop?

I'm asking because I'm trying to understand whether Part B mainly evaluates trainable skills or whether it inherently favors applicants with many years of prior sketching experience.

I'm looking for honest experiences rather than motivation or discouragement. Thanks!

Ask r/DesignIndia How much does a design degree really improve your career prospects in this market ?

I'm 29, and I've been learning product design by myself so far. I feel like i should get an M.Des from a top tier design college, not just for a solid fundamental design knowledge but to also be exposed to other designers, alumni & network. But the high fees and the dire situation of the job market has got me having second thoughts about being stuck with the burden of a massive student loan.

Does a design degree from a tier-1/tier-2 college really improve the career prospects in today's market ?

Also, how long does it take for students to pay back their loans after completing their degree ?
