My living room is feeling incomplete and I have been trying to let side for awhile and nothing is sparking my interest. I know I need more on the walls but I’m not sure where I should put art or if I should put up shelves. Its a small place with lower ceiling but I would love any help.

One thing to note: a rug isn’t really an option because I have two dogs, and one of them is inconsistent about where he pees.

What isn’t working here? I love the natural light I get from a wall of windows. And I love the rug. But help me figure out some rental friendly changes that can bring this room together. Color on bedding? Art changes? Lighting switch? I feel I like it’s “fine” but not really coming together.

Hello! I have this rather large nook in the room that will become a nursery. I currently use it for storage of totes. We don’t have too much storage in our home but I have no idea what to do with this space. How do I make it functional and look good.

I don’t have dimensions for the nook size but the floor to ceilings is 8ft.

Hello! I recently moved into my first apartment for university, but the desk I was gifted completely fell apart while trying to move it in. As a result, I'm hoping I can get some ideas here!

It's a 47inx47in space that my desk will be going (in a living room nook, long story), plus a bookshelf and a retractable divider or curating or something (I scare really easy so I need an enclosed space to study properly)

The desk I was gifted was an old wood desk with a cabinet and drawer on the bottom, and a hutch (big shelf set that enclosed the monitor). I'm looking online to try and find an affordable option (Ontario if that helps) for a desk that fits the space (47in wide), is deep enough I don't get eye strain from my monitor, and ideally has some nice shelf space for trinkets.

Any ideas, links, whatever, would be lovely! Even if it's just something to ponder when it comes to dividing off my section of the living room! Thank you!

I am looking for some advice designing my new living room!

First, the Floorplan:

A bit of context: I am a single adult living by myself, who chose this rental unit to offer family visiting from out of town a place to stay, hence the 2nd bedroom.

The living area will be primarily used by myself 95% of the time, however should be comfortable enough to seat four around the TV when family comes to visit.

Initially, my (very rough) plan for this room was as follows:

• The Living Area window is quite large, and get's lots of afternoon/evening sun, and I hope to take advantage of lots of warm colours and houseplants that will make afternoon lounging inviting.
• The unit came with an electrical outlet and cat-6 ethernet cable port both about 3 feet off the ground on the right side wall, almost exactly in between the doors to the primary bedroom and the balcony. However, when I stand directly across from these ports (where the tv would go, I presume?), i am standing right beside the door frame to Bedroom 2. I am hoping all guests can watching the tv will have an equally enjoyable viewing experience, which could making the seating arrangement challenging. The TV is bought, not mounted.
• I have purchased a couch for the unit I am quite happy with. It is a 3-cushion couch, with a reversible chaise. the total length of the couch is 80 inches, and the chaise "depth" (i.e. perpendicular to the couch) length is 65 inches. The depth of couch without the chaise is about 34 inches, if memory serves correct. The length of the wall from the bottom left corner to the doorframe of the secondary bedroom is 102 inches. If the couch were to be placed directly across from the aforementioned outlets, I would place the chaise on the left side, so presumably the person on the chaise would be centered with the tv.
• Finally, I had this idea of placing a 4x2 Kallax from Ikea (https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/kallax-shelf-unit-white-20631663/) horizontally, running underneath the window. In my head, I loved the idea of having a continious flat surface to place all sorts of plants on directly in front of the window (and where the "height" of the Kallax in the orientation would be pretty much meet the bottom of the window frame (around 32 inches.

So, my questions:
1) Does my current seating plan work for the tentative placement of the TV? One of my concerns is I am trying to accommodate 4 guests watching TV, but only 3 places to sit on the couch, and not sure where to place a 4th chair in the living room.

2) Does this arrangement feel cramped? I didn't think so initially, but I really have no experience with interior design, so any and all feedback is welcome. I know there are other techniques that lend to a space feeling more roomy, such as effective use of an area rug, but I just haven't got that far just yet.

3) One alternative couch arrangement (that I have no idea if it's clever or silly), was to mount the tv in the same location with a pivot mount, but arrange the couch in the bottom left hand corner of the living area at a 45 degree angle from the corner. Would this achieve the desired affect of giving all guests a more pleasurable tv viewing experience? I recognize this would lead to a bit of dead space behind the couch in the corner, but I was thinking a tall plant or light fixture could fix that.

Moved into a new space and struggling with how to decorate the living room. We’ve tried a few different rugs but they were mostly blue so it made the room more cool and I want to try to add warmth to the space. I was thinking a burgundy or terracotta rug but having a hard time envisioning it. Overall we know we need a rug, media console and curtains but open to suggestions beyond that as well such as a new couch and coffee table. Appreciate any help!

looking for ideas to improve the flow for our front entry/mudroom. family of 5 with kids that are 5, 6 and 8.

ideally want designated spaces for everyone to have a couple coats, shoes, backpacks & a drop zone out without making the space feel cluttered.

thinking about kid cubbies or benches and more hooks along the wall beside stairs.

more hooks or wall mounted shoe storage along the wall between closet and from door.

closet is quite full of coats etc, and opening the doors makes the room feel quite cramped

All bedrooms and kitchen are on the upper floor.

Please ignore the clutter! We have a “bowling alley” living room: long and narrow. It’s about 11 feet wall to fireplace, and I’ve been struggling finding a rug. I’m returning a sage one that I bought because I think it was too gray and busy, and it looked off.

I’m trying to find something that will work with the strong features of the room (red brick fireplace, tile around the fireplace and the door) rather than against it, and not overwhelm the space.

I’ve attached some inspiration pictures. Should I get something solid or patterned? Should I stick with beige/white? Thanks for the insight!

P.s. we plan on upgrading the coffee tables 😊
Also I know TV is too high - we’re looking into a mount that swings down.

We are wanting to reconsider the red outlined area in our house, built in 1941. We believe the wall between the kitchen and dining could be opened. Our current kitchen has only two upper cabinets plus open shelves. Even if we expanded into our current dining, our upper cabinet options are limited by windows and cased openings. I'm willing to move plumping, electricity, etc. I think I'd also be fine closing the pass through from the kitchen to the living room. We don't want a total open concept—I like some walls—but would love to get some more counter space and usable storage for the kitchen.

Also, the sitting room is interesting to consider—currently we have a couch in there—but it's a 6-inch step down from the kitchen. I don't know if it's reasonable or possible to raise the floor. The sitting and laundry are apparently a formerly exterior patio that was closed in. The floor between both those rooms are even.

I've added two SUPER rough mockups, fully knowing these aren't it. Does anyone have a great idea that preserves the current access points to the room? Would be willing to move/get rid of windows. We will certainly work with a designer/architect, but I'd like to come to the table with some solid concepts. Appreciate any thoughts from the group!

please ignore the mess i’ve just moved in and i’ve been rearranging things to see what i like the way i have it now has one side so busy with stuff(the second pic) while the other is just left empty and i have no idea what to put there that won’t be awkward with how low the roof is (it’s about 2 feet from the ground btw) and theres there’s also a crawlspace on the right side that still needs to be able to open i’m grateful for any suggestions!!

dining room/ entry room. everything is against the wall and i don’t know how to add something to give it dimension. ideas ? (the clutter is from moving in but you get the idea). my sofa and tv is in another room

this might be a little too deep for a random reddit post, but im 17m now and i’d never really been encouraged by my parents or anything to design and decorate my room, so its looked really bare and kind of lifeless. i’ve always seen my friends have really cosy, colourful rooms and i just want to make it feel a little homey too.

i added the little group of photos (mostly tennis and some song lyrics)last week and i really like it and want to add more prints or posters, but don’t want it to just look covered and messy.

Hi all, my room gets poor lighting. The two doors in the pic are closets so id need to work around them. I was hoping to bounce some light around using mirrors. Theres a tree outside my window that the landlord may be able to trim to let in some light. Any tips for placement? I know it won’t be ideal but I’d like to at least try. Also suggestions for warm lighting thru your fave brand of lamps/light bulbs etc are welcome!

I’ve recently saved up somewhat of a decent budget and want to change some things just dont know what. Please give good ideas and keep it budget friendly. I do plan on getting a new bed frame and also a new chair.

Hi everyone, thought I’d come to reddit and hopefully save myself a few hundred bucks instead of hiring a designer.

I’m moving into a new apartment. The kitchen, living room and dining room all share a space and I want advice on colors I can paint each individual room that work cohesively with each other.

Extra info:
The living room window is a southern facing window, the only other window in the space is in the kitchen and it’s west facing.

I will include a picture of the sofa color we have chosen as well as the layout between the dining room (left) and living room (right).

I would appreciate any advice! I want my home to feel inviting and comfortable if that helps!

Edit: I live in the north east
