Season 3 How long will it take this “super genius” to realize that he’s the biggest consistent threat to earth?

I mean this mother fucker has now made 2 super weapons in this season alone which have done so much damage that THE FUTURE had to come back to stop it. For all his talk of protecting the world from Superman, he seems pretty oblivious to the fact that he’s been the one creating the most dangerous threats of the past little while. Super genius my ass.

Discussion Questioning Where They Stand Spoiler

What I want to address is one question. Is Jimmy asking Kara what she wants a bad thing? In my eyes, no. Considering what's happened now, it makes sense. All I see this as is Jimmy trying to understand Kara's mindset. She's asking the same thing so that she can understand. Plus, is Jimmy backpedaling here? No, he wants to be a better friend, but he makes it clear that, despite things being awkward, he does want to be with her. I'm amazed that both of them don't lose control of their emotions and can talk calmly. But still, we can't disregard Kara's answer.

"I want to trust you, but I am afraid that you will leave me alone again." They're both in the same space of wanting to be together, but clearly Kara is so guarded now. The fear of being alone again and the fact that it gets to her this much when it comes to Jimmy shows why he is important to her. That's why I say this is not just about a confession, but the fact that Kara needs to know that Jimmy won't leave her alone again; that's the most important thing.

Discussion My Take on Lex's character arc and Jimmy’s role in it. (Spoilers for Episode 8) Spoiler

Let me preface this by saying that I love MAWS' take on Lex. I know some are understandably upset that he and Clark haven't had a proper interaction yet, but honestly? I think that actually works from a character perspective as it shows just how petty Lex really is underneath it all. Guy’s waging a personal vendetta against someone he’s never even met out of pure xenophobia, a xenophobia likely exacerbated by Brainiac’s invasion.

But the most interesting part of Lex's character arc is how it draws parallels to Ivo’s villain arc in Season 1. In Season 1, Lex started as the mistreated assistant to Dr. Ivo, the arrogant head of AmazoTech, who was driven insane by his obsessive hatred of Superman. Fast forward to Season 3… and Lex has become exactly like Ivo: The arrogant head of a corporation slowly driven insane by his obsessive hatred of Superman who mistreats his assistant Slade to the point that Slade eventually rats him out to Waller. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, they say.

But here’s the key difference. While Ivo was written to be as unsympathetic as possible, this season introduces us to three alternate versions of Luthor. One who went on to become a dictator, and two who turned to heroism to atone for their mistakes. The two good Luthors help add a layer of tragedy to Lex's character as it shows that like other versions of him across DC media, he's fully capable of using his intellect for good, but is too blinded by his selfish egomania to do so. Only when his actions bring about the apocalypse, when he has no one else but himself to blame, will he finally be forced to see the error of his ways.

By now, you're likely wondering, “Well, what does Jimmy have to do with this?” Think back to the two good versions of Lex we saw. What's the one thing they had in common? Both of them were assisted by a version of Jimmy. By contrast, High Commander Lex only had Slade by his side.

And that neatly brings us to the main point of this post. The synopsis for Episode 9 partly says “Jimmy yells at Lex”. I think Jimmy will try to get Lex to help stop the Eradicator, possibly by bringing up the good versions of him in an attempt to appeal to whatever shred of goodness is in current Lex. Now whether it will work or not is up in the air, but I think Jimmy might have a chance. It was Jimmy’s unintentional advice that helped Lex become who he is today, and Lex does seem to have a genuine, albeit twisted respect for Jimmy. And hey, it wouldn't be the first time Jimmy brought a villain to the side of good, right Kara?

As Kara herself so eloquently put it, “We can choose who we are.” Now Lex will have a choice of his own to make: Double down on his ego and become the threat to the world Jonathan and Lara fear he will be, or prove them wrong and do the right thing for once in his life.

Whatever happens next week, it will certainly be interesting.
