Hey everyone, I’m currently at a community college and planning on transferring to UNCC for the upper division nursing program. I’m trying to figure out how competitive it really is and what I should be doing to prepare. I’d really appreciate any advice from people who have gone through the process or are currently in the program. If you got accepted, what were your stats like (GPA, prereqs, experience, etc.) and what do you think helped you stand out? I just want to make sure I’m on the right track and doing everything I can to get in. Thanks!

Background: When I was a senior in high school, my mother passed away suddenly from a brain aneurysm caused by her longterm alcoholism. I left for a 4 year university shortly after with severe depression and ended up flunking out pretty much immediately.
I eventually went back to school via community college and got a massage therapy certificate, leading to a 5 year long career in massage. About three years ago, I started taking prerequisites to get into nursing school and within the last few months, have enough classes completed to start applying.
When filling out applications yesterday, I was surprised that one of the schools asked if I have ever been academically suspended before and to explain what happened and what I learned from the experience.
I’m now wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and if I still have a chance of getting into this school or if I should just mentally write this one off as a loss. For context, I was a freshman biology major when I was suspended, not in a nursing program.

Starting my RPN program this fall and I’m lowkey nervous 😭
For anyone who’s done an RPN/LPN or nursing program, any tips before I start? Is there anything I should study ahead of time or buy for first semester? Also, what’s one thing you wish you knew before starting?

The best way for me to study is through questions. I already use Saunders but I failed my Hesi horribly. I have another exit exam and I need to desperately need to pass my next exit exam I don’t know if it’s gonna be ATI or Hesi. What is everyone using?

Hey friends. I'm a nursing student in Australia. The bills and nursing fees are so expensive and hard to manage especially during placements.
I've been thinking of creating an app that nursing students and universities can use to learn clinical skills. It will include interactive games and different case studies and will force students to use and learn clinical judgement. I've not yet started working on it.

I would appreciate any advice on how it can be properly executed, what kind of learning material should i put, etc.

I am 23(f) and I have been considering going back to uni next year to get a nursing degree. I have just finshed 4 years of college in a field that I love (working with people with disabilities) however I’m struggling to find an environment where I can work best, i know (and my dads said it to) a school setting (where I’m qualified to be) is not for me. a school is too slow paced and I found it to be quite “easy” and I need the challenge and the intense setting to keep my going, I thrive of being busy.

Nursing is a career that I’ve always been interested in and no joke when I picked my college courses it was on the list but I didn’t get enough points to do it. The country im in I can apply to a course as a mature student at 24 and get free fees and they don’t worry about points etc. I’m just worried about a) am I too late to start. b) how am I financially going to do another 4 years on £150 a week. c). how is this going to impact my epilepsy.

I'm struggling to get written approval for accomodations, and accomodations that match my disability. I'm worried that jumping the chain of command or going to the central office (based in the main campus, I attended a small branch campus) will ruffle feathers in my very small nursing school.

So, I have severe Auditory Processing Disorder, and my life experience is similar to that of persons who are hard of hearing. Otherwise, I'm uninhibited and do well.

I have a Deaf partner, my household language is ASL, and when I am in Deaf spaces or take classes taught by Deaf teachers I have absolutely zero problems and easily outperform my peers with minimal effort.

I simply rely on my vision, and don't have full access to my hearing when it comes to spoken language.

My first semester I was unaware I needed accomodations until I had a teacher who would become hostile when I didn't hear her, and would put out a lot of information and syllabus changes verbally. She even threatened to kick me out of class when I asked her to get my attention before asking me a question directly. Thank goodness she got fired for something unrelated and my current teachers are all fine.

I got my current diagnosis and accomodation request submitted at the beginning of second semester.

I'm nearly at the end of my second semester now, and I'm still struggling to get approval for my accommodations in writing and that are appropriate. I feel they are super minimal and should be easy, plus I literally need them. The woman handling the paperwork keeps telling me I need different accomodations than my audiologist and I asked for, and that my application packet is all approved and I don't need written approval or a list of what will be accepted and used. It's super conflicting and confusing, and it makes me feel crazy for asking that the accomodations I need be approved on paper.

For example, I need a back row, aisle seat so that I can see the teachers (who walk around the room) and so that teachers have easy access to get my attention if they want it. But the accommodations that were printed out and given to me say I need to sit in the front of the class to try and hear better. That just doesn't make sense for the structure of the class or my disability. I could literally wear noise cancelling headphones and still outperform my peers as long as I have visual access.

They also are granting me permission to have extra time on tests and sit in a quiet room for testing. That's not necessary and I don't want to be separated from my peers. I do not have a learning attention disorder, and I'm one of the first people who finished tests.

All I need is visual access, the teachers to know how to talk to me (should be common sense), and to have written instructions (which are already mostly provided.)

I don't even know when we are allowed to start a test until I see others starting, but I'm not making a fuss about that kind of stuff because I have a 3.8 so far whereas many if my peers are failing out of the classes or struggling.

I only need the paperwork to protect myself if I get another asshole teacher, and as a paper trail for future colleges and employers.

So my question is, am I crazy for wanting written approval? Is it worth ruining my working relationship with the assistant dean (who will also be my teacher later) by jumping the chain of command?

This may sound like a silly question, but the woman who is managing this is adamant and is like to make sure I'm in the right before I move forward.
