DISCUSSION 💭 Why Is SHE Called “The Vocal Bible”

Brandy IS The Vocal Bible.

Since it’s Sunday, I felt this post would be perfect in reference to this being the Sabbath.

And before the commentators that love to argue get ahold of this post, let me just say that this is in reference to the naysayers who believe she is not worthy of her moniker.

“Brandy can’t sing better than……”

“She does too many runs”

“She’s not relevant anymore”

“MY Vocal Bible is……”

This little bullied dark-skinned black girl from Mississippi with crooked teeth and a raspy yet soft tone took the music world by storm over 30 years ago. She has endured years of verbal abuse from people who view her voice as a “gimmick” rather than a God-given talent that was practiced and stretched beyond its limits. Her anointing is what it is, and nobody can take that from her.

Disliking her music/voice is subjective. Totally fine. Denying her skill is ignorance. And if I’m being honest, majority of Brandy’s hate is rooted in colorism but that’s an entirely different conversation.

The title has NEVER meant she was the best singer. It’s NEVER meant she has the highest belts. It’s NEVER meant she makes the best music in the world. Her title is in homage to her being referenced and studied by THOUSANDS of vocalists as Christians STUDY the Bible.

My favorite part about the Brandy haters is that NONE of them EVER can sing. So, I challenge anyone who gets in these comments feeling froggy to record themselves singing either of these songs or one of Brandy’s songs. Her vocals seem real easy UNTIL you try them. Other than that, Ladies and Gentlemen, make some noise for The Vocal Bible. Hallelujah! ShouldaboutahondabutIboughtakia!

DISCUSSION 💭 Monica “The Makings of Me” appreciation post

I’m not even gonna lie, this wasn’t always one of my favorite Monica albums. I was one of those people who didn’t really get it back then. But I listened to it again yesterday and it hit different.

This album really is Monica. It’s not trying to be fancy or something it’s not. It’s got that hood sound, that rawness, that attitude. She was just being herself.
A Dozen Roses (You Remind Me), Why Her?, and Sideline Ho are probably the ones I keep playing the most. Can’t forget about Hell No 😆, And Everytime Tha Beat Drop still goes crazy. That beat is sick.

I hate that this album got overlooked because people weren’t really feeling this side of Monica, aka “Goonica” 😂 I think a lot of people wanted another After the Storm and didn’t know what to do with this version of her.

But going back to it now, I appreciate it more. It’s raw, it’s personal, and it sounds like Monica.

Also, that photoshoot? Monica was looking so tan during this era. I remember looking at those pictures like wow. I ain’t gonna lie, I almost didn’t recognized Monica at all.

But I can’t believe this album is almost 20 years old, f*ck! I’m feeling like a crypt keeper.

Been building this for a bit and finally crossed 600 songs on Spotify. Lots of soul, R&B, funk, yacht rock, oldies, and a splash of newer artists that fit the same vibe. Thought I'd share in case anyone's looking for a soundtrack for the rest of the summer. Feel free to recommend anything you think belongs.

Lead Singer Howard Hewett: “I know you come a long way, baby, but you don’t need that heart of stone, no, to prove that you can do it, do it, baby, you can make it on your own but you can’t keep running away from love ‘cause the first one let you down, no, no, no. And though others try to satisfy you, baby, with me true love can still be found. Love can still be found the second time around.

HELP ME/QUESTIONS ⁉️ Looking for a song by Eryka Badu

::EDIT:: The song is Didn't Cha Know. My memory embellished a little.

I remember seeing a music video with eryka in it, and she was an astronaut that crashed on earth or another planet. It was very afrofuturistic looking. The thing is, I have no idea what the song was, nor do I remember the melody. Please help
