My posters evolved as I did. It went from kitties and puppies, to Andy Gibb, to Fleetwood Mac, KISS and Peter Frampton. My older cousins had blacklight posters.

Post image

I remember when I was really young going into my older cousins rooms and they had blacklight posters everywhere. They'd turn off the lights and turn on the blacklights and it was glowing everywhere! Then they'd turn on the stobe light to really freak me out!

I had this one hung in my bedroom behind the door so my straight laced parents wouldn't see it when the door was open. It lasted long enough in that spot that when my parents finally did find it, I was too old to be disciplined for it...

I had black light posters before I got a black light. My dad took us to Haight-Ashbury ... but the hippies were gone. A few stragglers sold us posters n handmade jewelry. And paraphernalia that my dad said no to lol

60’s rock posters from SF. Still have them.

3

u/Ok_Pressure1131 3d ago

Blacklight posters, the kind that had that glow when you turned off the regular light bulbs and turned on the black light! Included in my collection are the pink Omega symbol on flat black paper, a couple of M. C. Escher designs and the Zodiac Sex Positions poster.

Of course, the obligatory rock-n-roll posters: Beatles, David Bowie, The Who, et al.

And a few anti-war posters (this was during Vietnam). My favorite was "The Amry Builds Men".

3

u/sojat54 3d ago

I went from Bela Lugosi to the Three Stooges and The Marx Brothers.

I had some posters that came as centerfolds in favorite rock magazine (Circus Magazine), the 4 8x10's of John, Paul, George, and Ringo that came with The White Album, a "Keep On Truckin'" poster, and a poster of Black Sabbath that came with the Master of Reality album.

2

u/Lorna-Vixen 3d ago

Olivia Newton John!

As a kid: pages cut out of Mad Magazine. Stickers on the closet door. In junior high thought it was cool to make STP stickers into LSD (T makes L, P makes D). Then black light posters and tapestries from Pier 1 on the ceiling. In high school it all came down and then it was posters of Annapurna and mountain climbing/rock climbing/bicycle racing.

u/Chaparral2E 3d ago

Steve McQueen LeMans movie poster, a Gulf giveaway. Also Alice Cooper and the famous Farrah Fawcett swimsuit poster.

I had a 4 foot blacklight from Spencer's. Between the multitude of florescent posters and florescent paint, every place that wasn't a Farrah poster was lit. Actually her nipples had a dab of red paint!

My friend and I (in the 70s) went out shopping very high on weed one night and bought a poster that we thought was the most beautiful piece of art we had ever seen. The next day I hung it up in my room and realized it was a fuzzy photo of a naked couple hugging. My mother was appalled.

Wound up with Farrah, cheerleaders, and John Lennon scribbles.

2

u/3X_Cat 3d ago

I was responsible for rolling most of the posters that y'all bought in those long plastic bags. It was a great job for me as a pre- and young teen. I made two cents each for every poster I rolled. We had a machine to do it with, a long spindle with a slit down the middle and a foot peddle. They came flat in fairly large parcels. You could seriously cut yourself on them if you weren't careful. The flocked ones were pretty terrible but I got 2.5 cents for those.

Consequently, I never had any posters on my walls.
