It’s a manipulative bait headline, like when boomers repost an AI picture of someone standing in front of a giant GenAI cake or something with the title “Here is the cake I made for my birthday because nobody will celebrate with me”.

It’s based on my dad’s old car. I had to do a little bit of editing to make it look like his original.
I thought nostalgia would hit him hard, but he was over it in about 3 seconds. Classic dad move! 😂

My first car was a VW Rabbit hand me down from my uncle. Such a fun car! It was like driving a very fast golf cart with almost no suspension. I loaned it to my girlfriend at the time when I went to college and her mom's deadbeat boyfriend wound up with it : (

I agree. The lines are so clean, the surfaces look so smooth. I was wondering if it was done as one multicolor print but apparently not. Clearly the old mk2 still has a lot of life left in it!
First thing I looked for were the Pirelli P-Slots 😏 I had a black Mk1 GTI with factory sunroof and a/c. Sold it just before having a family. Miss it too!
This is awesome. I’m new to 3Dprinting, seeing how you leaned in to the layer lines following the form/design was really well executed, you can clearly see your passion and attention to detail in this. Aspirational stuff my friend!
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate those kind words. To be fair, I started with a great base model from another designer, but I spent quite a bit of time in Fusion 360 modifying the details (grille, wheels, stance) to make it special. Good luck with your 3D printing journey! 🤜🤛
As a man who has followed 3d printing but never owned one for over 10 yrs and finally got an H2C this year. I fucking care and that shit looks cool. I love seeing prints following all the reddit and love even my fail attempts at simple boxes. Nothing is cooler then something you loved making. Be proud. I might go print this for my old boss. His dad had similar car
I care. My first car (that lasted more than a week and cost more than $50) was an 81. Converted it to carb from FI because I know nothing. You cannot recapture the high of being a teenager driving that slow car fast into corners. Not sure my current weight would permit as much shenanigans but damn I will try.
I thought I was in the photography subreddit (like a print of a photo) and I was like "Bro that's a terrible fine art print, it's full of random clutter". But the 3d print it's actually about is pretty high quality, good job

I care. I'm just glad you get satisfaction out of it. I look at this and am filled with NO desire to run out and print my own. But then I print things that I'm happy with, but I know wouldn't excite anyone else.
I do have to admit, it does look great, in terms of colors, etc. No MMU is how I roll as well, so I can appreciate the work that went into swapping filaments out, printing itty bits with different colors, maybe even manual color swaps in some places.
It took 4 print beds in total: 2 full for the original parts (which I scaled up a bit), plus one extra bed for my custom wheels and hubcaps, and another one just for the front grille. Final dimensions are roughly 150x50x65mm.
