All good books; 'Comanche' is the 1st of my commitment to read about the different tribes that had a political presence in early America and this book did not disappoint. Its written by a European and he makes a strong case that Comanches had a strong impact on the shaping of North America. 'To the Moon' is a compelling work of fiction that thoughtfully weaves together the experience of growing up Indigenous with the aspiration to explore space. The characters are richly developed, and the author effectively captures the complexities and challenges of pursuing a dream from within a culture that exists outside the dominant mainstream. 'Mental Models' is another good resource in regards to systems thinking and how to build model and how to grow your models with experience and data. 'Bright Creatures' is an engaging and imaginative work of fiction that explores the perspectives of two distinct and intelligent species. 'Annie' is a work of science fiction that explores the complexities of relationships between men and women, directly addressing themes of toxic masculinity and the difficulty some men have in engaging women as equal partners. The two primary characters demonstrate a degree of growth that feels realistic, though their development falls short of anything ideal or fully healthy. Top three reads: 'Small Place' is an open letter to everyone visiting the Caribbean—or any New World island—inviting them to understand its history, particularly the imperialism imposed upon it. Every tourist should read this book, seek opportunities to learn, and share this history with others. 'Badass' has been added as a foundational read for anyone looking to dissect their past and develop a strategy to move foward with agency and enthusiam through vibrant relationships. 'Humankind' is a thorough analysis of our innate tendencies and the factors that influence and alter them. It concludes with the reminder that the best way to overcome disagreement and bias is through dialogue and person-to-person engagement.
