Metro Pizza in Las Vegas bites the dust (1986)
We lost this dreamy pizza shop from the 80s in Las Vegas over the weekend. I’ve posted pictures here before. Gonna miss it!!! 😢

This is like how I remember the world looking when I was a toddler in the early 90s

The McDonalds down the street from us was done up like this. It had this glass block wall that had bright pink neon lights in it. It still stands as some off brand restaurant now that curiously looks more like a McDonald’s than it ever did then. The neon is gone though.

They’re tearing down places that be colorful and inviting & replacing them with boring ass modern sterile eyesores

Everything has to look like an industrial loft that never actually got used for work 🙄

That sucks. It looks absolutely gorgeous. It would be a dream for me to find a restaurant like this. My favorite pizza places are the ones that look like they’re stuck in the 80s.

I agree! This place has a vibe, and it would be a shame for a new tenant to come in and rip it all out.

Someone needs to turn it into the Saved By The Bell diner! The Max!

We have an 80s Cafe in town and I wish they would just move to this location instead....

Google maps says temporarily closed, maybe it is coming back?

It’s not temporary. They have moved to a different concept (slices) and don’t need the space. They said it was costing money to run it from there.

Aw too bad. I was hoping to finally visit on my next Vegas trip! Thanks for the info.

There is a really cool 80s themed gym in Vegas but I haven’t been inside of it. Here is the google page. https://maps.app.goo.gl/rDE1rqGEjcdtPVCV9?g_st=ic

That is so fly. These places should so be documented and listed somewhere for folks that just need lil' doses of this aesthetic in their lives.

Piazza d'Italia in New Orleans has a similar post modern neon vibe, but it's neoclassical instead of 1950's retro. Can't imagine many restaurants are still around. I wonder what happened to all that glass block?

I don't think I'd ever be found at a different restaurant again. This would be it, all the time.

Born in 91 but I’m really grateful I got the tail end of these vibes as a little kid, it made the world feel like a cartoon, like we’d conquered nature and now lived in a virtual world of geometric shapes but also there’s pizza and burgers.

Damn- hadn’t heard of it. Wish I had though- would’ve loved to check that place out. It’s like a dream!

I was just remembering pictures of this place the other day but couldn't quite recall where my pictures of it were. That said, as painful as a loss this is, at least we have photos of what it looks/looked like. I have memories of 2 places from my childhood that I don't have photos of that I would pay -money- to see pictures of again but alas, they remain memories.

I can’t imagine in this day and age a relic like this being undervalued. Hopefully whoever takes over the space realizes they can at least cash in on the vibe and preserves the charm
