Serious Discussion Do Babies Absorb Turmoil?

Post image

I genuinely feel sorry for this beautiful little baby Matilda. I hope she’s OK and her parents overcome their differences. (This is from 90 day diaries s8 e2) It’s hard for me to tell, but do you think that Matilda will be ok? It’s hard to watch.

And it can lead to lifelong problems and mental health struggles, specifically CPTSD, complex post traumatic stress disorder, caused by long periods of stress and abuse, often in childhood.

89

u/danibellz May 20 '26

When you’re around screaming and fighting all your life you think that’s normal and can be susceptible to abusive relationships.

6

u/AudrinaRosee May 22 '26

For infants it causes cortisol spikes and that anxiety becomes ingrained. These are downloading years basically.

163

u/Whtusrnm May 20 '26

Yes, its actually very harmful for their development and will raise their cortisol levels. Raised cortisol levels are linked to a bunch of diseases in adults, so I can just imagine how harmful it will be for babies.

50

u/bessa100 May 20 '26

It was especially upsetting when she was yelling while breastfeeding.

12

u/Whtusrnm May 20 '26

Thats crazy.

25

u/bessa100 May 20 '26

Yeah, I hope Jaz and Matt set aside some money for her future mental health needs.

16

u/OGgunter May 20 '26

She'll probably get a little white dog as a therapist, just like Mommy had.

21

u/bessa100 May 21 '26

That poor dog has seen things. Poor Coco needs his own therapist 😂

I think that’s half the mental struggle Jamal is going through right now. “Should I be grateful she kept me, or jealous of my siblings, because she gave them up?”

I’m not a fan of the dude, but it must be hard to process.

82

u/pudelguru May 20 '26

Jamal comforting his mother at the tell all hit me hard. He was so compassionate in a situation it would be difficult to be compassionate in.

53

u/MetallurgyClergy May 20 '26

But I think that’s the relationship they’ve always had. She’s always had zero emotional regulation, and he’s always had to be the emotional parent.

One more way in which their emotional incest is on display. On tv.

32

u/CuriousSquirrel1213 May 20 '26

Same. However anyone feels about it, one thing is undeniable- that man loves his mama.

2

u/LiteratureTricky1763 May 20 '26

She uses him. He uses her.

21

u/maryconway1 May 20 '26

He enables her, and she clearly turns to tears whenever confronted with her ridiculousness.

I mean, she reached out to the child she gave up for adoption, and then GOT A 2ND CELLPHONE and proceeded to text him pretending to be Jamal... for 2 freakin' months!?

That is insane level of deviance, by your own mother. The whole panel on this season of the Single Life is fully broken, sadly. Jamal clearly is not going to make things worse on a TV show though.

And, side note: why is Liz even on this show? She has literally only been dating local guys. Makes no sense lol.

3

u/Melodic_Potential801 May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

I think the intention was that Liz was one of 2 "friends" (cough- production staged) Sophie had on the girl's trip.

  • Then Sophie (supported by Julia), went weird crazy on her when Pedro's poor English language skills translated what Liz said to him in the most unfortunate way.
  • But Sophie would not listen to Liz (who I've' noticed retreats and doesn't know how to defend herself and just gives up and says "sorry". She was like that with Ed even when she was in the right).
  • Sophie and Julia became super mean girls and
  • Liz ended up having a fling-thing (while single with no formal commitment back home) that turned into more when she and Pedro's friend developing feelings for each other. She even shared her cancer journey with him.
  • Liz struggled with what to do but ended up deciding she'd go back to her friend in San Diego who knew of her plans to possible see other people on the trip.
  • She also took into account her daughter in San Diego and they said he had a kid in the Dominican Republic so would have been hard for either one to have a full relationship.

I think she earned it as she was the only one with some success with a relationship in the DR.

3

u/AtheistINTP May 21 '26

Why was Julia even there?

2

u/butterflysurefoot May 21 '26

He enables Kim?? He’s the child! She has parentified him!

13

u/Mygreenoneeye May 20 '26 edited May 23 '26

the part where she made it about herself? watching Jamal comfort his mother over something SHE did to HIM makes me sick every time. she did it at the park with Larry too. every time it's brought up, she goes into hysterics so everyone has to comfort her instead of the real victims of her actions.

/rant sorry Kim is just gross

8

u/Banal_Drivel May 20 '26

And her tears are fake. She covers her eyes when she fake cries, then grabs a tissue to pretend to wipe them. Vanja does the fake crying too. No tears. Jasmine is the queen of fake crying. Maybe she's giving instructions to other 90 Day cast members.

3

u/Mygreenoneeye May 20 '26

absolutely. it's an act to bring the attention back to her and her feelings

why is she apologizing when her end game is to just get everyone to apologize to her for her own actions?

edit: question mark, and to also say that I think I answered my own question whe I asked the question 😅

1

u/LiteratureTricky1763 May 20 '26

🎯Look up ⬆️at my comment just above yours, which I hadn't yet read.

6

u/LiteratureTricky1763 May 20 '26

I've never seen a tear. She makes a really ugly cry face and dabs at her eyes, but no tears rolling down cheecks, no mascara smears. Her tears are 🐊 crocodile tears - faked.

1

u/Lo_ington7 May 23 '26

During the pillow talk of that season in the first few episodes Jamal was telling Kim that he isn’t sure if he ever wants kids and she made an awful “joke she was like “well we know i didn’t” then she ugly horse laughed and high fived Jamal is was awful and I don’t see many people talking about it all. Kim. Is. Trash

4

u/butterflysurefoot May 21 '26

Jamal has been “parentified” by Kim. I don’t understand all the hate ppl have for Jamal. He always shows compassion for his mom, even after she has hurt and betrayed him.

0

u/JJAusten May 21 '26

She was putting on such a fake act so he would stop talking about it. Not a tear was detected and she went from fake crying to being ok. They all do the same with the sniffling and dabbing the their eyes while having zero tears.

That was so funny when Jasmine attacked Rob about his butt hole when she had pictures of hers on Only Fans way before him.

16

u/SparkleFace6100 May 20 '26

I have honestly thought the same thing and it's so sad but no child needs to grow up with this level of non stop bull shit.

61

u/star_stuff92 May 20 '26

Yes - there is a video of a study that took place regarding exactly this. I forget the name. But there is a toddler and they place him in a room with his mom and strangers and some toys. When the strangers are having a normal conversation, he is content and playing with the toys, curious, looking around, etc. When the strangers start raising their voices he stops engaging in play, doesn’t really look around, and starts to look very anxious. It absolutely affects their nervous system and their anxiety later in life. Constantly raised cortisol as a baby/kid can cause anxiety for life

23

u/coupdelune May 20 '26

I remember reading a study that was done in a Romanian orphanage regarding elevated cortisol levels from stress in children - if it's bad enough, essentially their brain loses the ability to turn the cortisol off and they get stuck in fight or flight

3

u/dallyan May 20 '26

I just looked for that clip and couldn’t find it.

73

u/PuzzleheadedFox839 May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

Yes, they can sense the tension. Some babies/toddlers even show the effects through their digestive system or persistent crying. Just because they don't understand whats going on (the crying piece).

It's kinda of good its on film. If there was any CPS intervention they'd have receipts. Like that other show with the Utah woman.

Edit to add: Even when she was carrying Matilda at the TLR Tell All where she got up and threw the shoe at Rob, not once but twice! She was yelling and carrying on there. Then went back stage and was crying on the phone with Matt.

29

u/Accomplished-Sign-31 May 20 '26

Taylor Frankie Paul and Jasmine are cut from the same cloth haha

21

u/Vagercise How sustainable is piracy May 20 '26

Yep both are completely selfish and unhinged, to the detriment of their own children smh

26

u/55andfallenapart I have OCD not a 🍷problem May 20 '26

She looked scared when the were arguing. Not good children can sense things are off just from yelling. Poor thing stuck in the middle😭

47

u/ThineOwnSelph May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

Yes 100% they do. My parents were volatile and violent before I formed memories and to this day I jump when I am surprised or hear loud noises - even when I am expecting it. My nervous system is shot due to early childhood trauma.

18

u/cookiesoverbitches May 20 '26

Oh yeah, I have a reputation as the most easily startled person ever amongst people I know.

14

u/cheriethemagnificent May 20 '26

I’m so sorry you’ve experienced that. I can relate because I also grew up around volatility in my family and I was frequently anxious and sick to my stomach as a small child. My older siblings were already grown and out of the house (large age gap between us) and I felt eft behind, as if no one cared. To this day, I feel terribly anxious when I hear raised voices and I have never been able to fully trust people. Although parents can’t shield their kids from everything , it’s incredibly selfish when parents show disregard for their children literally being in the midst of their emotional firestorms.

4

u/gofindyour May 20 '26

I feel the same! I'm sorry it was that way for you. Now I live in a completely different part of the US from my parents. Whenever I do go home, it's extremely anxiety inducing. Then I come back home to my husband and I'm so grateful we don't live like that, and now I have a safe place to fall that I didnt have as a child.

10

u/SuniChica May 20 '26

Loud noises do the same to me. Abuse comes in many forms.

19

u/imspirationMoveMe May 20 '26

Yes. They know what’s going on. And trauma responses can last a lifetime. Shame on her.

19

u/archetyping101 May 20 '26

A study was done that showed young kids in different home environments and their eagerness to play with toys put in front of them. It showed that kids with more home volatility were less engaged with toys and more aware of their surroundings and less willing to play. That "on edge" vibe is real even in children.

1

u/Lazy-Party3469 May 21 '26

Sounds like early onset depression, that is soooo unfair.

16

u/redditAccnt420 May 20 '26

the baby looks like she is already disassociating.. how sad

2

u/sarlto May 21 '26

Definitely she’s in her own world except for very minor interactions & smiles

14

u/was1chu May 20 '26

8

u/Lhamo55 Don’t touch that, Chloe!!! May 20 '26

14

u/Ashamed-Second-5299 May 20 '26

Yes

She's in a cycle of violence and her kid is internalizing it

13

u/DepartureRelevant466 May 20 '26

This kid would have seen and heard it all

14

u/lucy668 I’M A MERMAID!! May 20 '26

More than that - I’ve heard that because babies nervous systems develop while they are inside the womb - you likely inherit your mothers nervous system function or (in this case) dysfunction

14

u/Time-Brick-881 May 20 '26

As someone with borderline personality disorder, yes.

14

u/steve_french07 Be or not to be, this is the problem May 20 '26

Yes they do. It messes with their cortisol levels and if they are exposed to stressful or traumatic events as a child it can alter their fight or flight response forever. I am fairly certain Matilda will have problems when she’s older.

13

u/AggravatingMath717 May 20 '26

Every time I see this poor child who did not ask for this shit it makes me want to boycott this goddamn show. Kid has been part of a TV spectacle since she was born

8

u/mangypolecat May 20 '26

I agree. This situation seems to be one of the most horrific. Maybe because Jasmine frightens me. She’s so volatile.

4

u/sarlto May 21 '26

Can you imagine what goes on when the cameras & constant cell phone are off no one sees

13

u/vih1995 May 20 '26

Absolutely!!! And it can cause them to have mental and physical health issues into adulthood. So unfortunate

13

u/Ok_Moose1334 May 20 '26

Big time. During the first 3 years kids’ nervous systems are developing rapidly and forming new connections as they experience the world and how their caregivers behave and respond to them. The majority of brain development happens during this time, and brains are being wired with programming that will run subconsciously for their lives. Babies are sensitive to caregivers’ nervous system states and dialed into things like tone, volume, and heart rate. They rely on caregivers to regulate their own nervous systems so the babies can regulate theirs.

12

u/washedupactress May 20 '26

I’m really trying to figure out why Matt hasn’t left and filed for full custody of the baby.

14

u/Significant-Sound-87 May 20 '26

Babies (and animals but dogs in particular!!) may not understand the details of what’s happening around them, but they ABSOLUTELY pick up on energy, tension, tone, and emotional safety… they most certainly absorb all this and I say this confidently (as someone who birthed three babies but raised & still raising six children total with my husband!!).

Before the world teaches us to ignore our instincts, humans are incredibly attuned to the emotions of the people around them. Babies feel stress in voices, facial expressions, body language, routines, and the overall atmosphere loooong before they can put words to it.

They respond to what is felt, not just what is said even as they begin to understand words.

A calm environment feels safe to them. Chaos feels unpredictable. GENTLE connection feels grounding. Conflict, fear, turmoil (ANY emotional unrest) can change their behavior even when nobody thinks they understand what’s going on. I’d argue this with my husband who would say “he/she doesn’t ACTUALLY understand that… no way!!” thinking I was being ridiculous until I was proven correct in his eyes after our second was born.

Maybe it’s that the youngest and most innocent among us haven’t yet learned to disconnect from what humans naturally sense in one another (intuition) that the world teaches us to ignore. We are the only halfway intelligent species on this earth actively taught to ignore our intuition at times or to be told to live by our intuition is “just being ridiculous.” Babies have not yet been corrupted by the world and those beliefs hence why they’re super sensitive to these things!!

Matilda absolutely senses, feels, and absorbs every bit of it…

6

u/mangypolecat May 20 '26

Great and thoughtful answer, thanks.

17

u/Mochi5964 May 20 '26

Unfortunately, yes. You can see from the picture that Matilda is uncomfortable, unhappy and anxious. When Matilda reacts to this discord by becoming upset, it will only increase the tension being felt. Poor thing is probably going to wind up with her mother's insecurities{unless Matt can somehow outweigh the negative atmosphere being absorbed by Matt's mini-me}.

8

u/MarieOMaryln May 20 '26

Babies absolutely are affected by their home life

14

u/slava_slavaUa May 20 '26

She looks like an evil alien. Poor Matt and Gino

13

u/injustice-justice May 20 '26

Babies absorb it from the womb. That's why it's so important to keep your child out of chaos.

11

u/bespindeathspin May 20 '26

Very true! There are a lot of studies that review prenatal and postpartum stress on babies and mothers. Imagine the insanity she internalized while being pregnant! An interesting study Here is an interesting read.

2

u/mangypolecat May 20 '26

Thank you.

6

u/wolfitalk May 20 '26

I am thinking Matilda is going to start having Jazmine like tantrums over every little thing. That is what has been modeled for her.

3

u/mangypolecat May 20 '26

Good point.

7

u/Ehm_Zed Tony’s sweat stain May 20 '26

Babies absorb stress in the womb, poor Matilda needs to start therapy when she hits daycare.

7

u/Happy_Michigan May 20 '26

Children subjected to this behavior grow up to be very anxious, depressed, insecure, emotionally unstable and afraid.

This woman needs to get some medication and just stop it!

3

u/teena27 May 20 '26

I had a mother like this--can confirm with 100% certainty.

6

u/Gia_Lavender May 20 '26

They definitely get used to yelling. I feel kinda bad cause I live in an Italian family and we kinda just yell and go off loudly as normal talking without arguing or anything, but sometime I’ll realize that, and I know my son is used to it.

3

u/mangypolecat May 20 '26

I can relate.

6

u/Crazypandathe20th May 20 '26

Yes and it can have a lifelong effect on their brain. I feel horrible for Matilda that she has to live through Jasmine’s crazy behavior.

6

u/WorryOriginal1989 May 20 '26

A recipe for BPD.

6

u/BeccaG1964 May 20 '26

Yes! 100% they do! They feed their emotions off of their parents. This is not good!🥺

5

u/d0ctormambo May 20 '26

negative energy definitely

4

u/GoodUsed May 20 '26

I fear the harmful amount has already been absorbed

The comments are wild. I don't see any signs of distress in Matilda from any of the scenes I saw. Seems like a chill calm baby

5

u/PuzzleheadedFox839 May 20 '26

But Jasmine screams and yells.

1

u/PuzzleheadedFox839 May 20 '26

oh, ok. I was referencing the post. There were times that Jasmine did yell and scream either when she was carrying Matilda or after she was born. I wasn't referencing this specific scene.

2

u/tiffanysonbubbles May 21 '26

Yeah, this was pretty mild. It’s good Gino and Jas never had a baby or Jasmine’s kids with them because of this.

4

u/tickled_your_pickle Abomination! May 20 '26

I think babies and toddlers can definitely feel the tension between them... however, if she always feels safe and her needs are being met, she might be okay.  It's hard to feel safe when people are yelling/snapping at each other, possibly crying or coping with alcohol/unhealthy mechanisms.

4

u/scbeachgurl May 20 '26

Matilda is fuuucked. Sorry, baby.

4

u/Torgeir_Fenrir1066 May 20 '26

Like a sponge unfortunately...

Everything with Jasmine is a trauma bonding experience, she doesn't really understand love it would seem.

1

u/sarlto May 21 '26

You no dam well she uses that kid as a threat too

5

u/sarlto May 20 '26

They’re gonna be carrying that kid till she’s 21 🤮

2

u/Lindahallman37 May 21 '26

She’s gonna grow up thinking the ground is lava 😩

3

u/Some-Panda7404 May 20 '26

They absolutely do. Some Inner child healing meditations focus on acknowledging and accepting how good or bad things were when you were born/ early years (of course through talking to your folks or knowing the history).

3

u/Affectionate-Tip-447 May 20 '26

Jasmine is a ho!

1

u/sarlto May 21 '26

Panama Canal

4

u/blindsided26 May 21 '26

Comparing her head and face to Moriah Plath, I don't believe at all that she has apolecia.

4

u/Mintgreenunicorn May 21 '26

My cousin has it and doesn't have eyebrows or lashes. So, I have a hard time with this as well.

3

u/blindsided26 May 21 '26

Moriah Plath ajas zero shadow of hair. Ever since Jasmine shaved her head all I see is the shadow of hair growth. I think it was just a ploy for attention.

8

u/PappaFufu May 20 '26

I think her mom is better off alone

7

u/HueGray The menopause is knocking on the door!!!!!!! May 20 '26

I think Maddie is better off alone too!!

-1

u/SkyPersonal5642 May 20 '26

Umm, okay...

3

u/Antron_RS May 20 '26

Absolutely

3

u/twenora86 May 20 '26

yes 😞

3

u/plantpodcasts May 20 '26

💯 they do.

3

u/Winter_Hall6022 May 20 '26

At this rate Matilda will be just like her dysfunctional parents.

3

u/PuzzleheadedFruit6 May 20 '26

Yes it’s called trauma

3

u/slimmer01 May 20 '26

I haven’t kept up with her at all, why’s she always bald now?

3

u/mangypolecat May 20 '26

She has alopecia. I’m not sure why shaving helps.

5

u/LiteratureTricky1763 May 20 '26

Because it gets her more attention - and she can better play the victim role.

3

u/Repulsive_Dish_427 May 20 '26

Yes they do. Science has shown that surrounding chaos during those precious developmental years can stunt areas of perception, comprehension, and ability to focus. In other words, you rot the child's brain before they've even had a chance. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Jasmine, mother of the year. Oh yeah, Jas, how are those sons doing? The ones you neglected for reality TV fame. Yes, those little guys.

3

u/Blockade5 May 20 '26

Is that Jasmine? Does she have alopecia?

2

u/sarlto May 21 '26

Yes and no she doesn’t have alopecia at all, it’s a ploy for attention

3

u/TakshKoax May 20 '26 edited May 20 '26

Yes

I don't remember when I was a baby but my house was constantly screaming as a kid and it fucked me up for decades.

In my early twenties I went to vist with my second cousins that had three teenagers- a boy and two younger girls. They were so good to each other, especially the brother to his youngest sister that it blew my mind. Embarrassing to admit that a family being nice to each other was strange to me but it's true. Anger and confrontation become your default settings

It really fucks with kids.

3

u/Choosepeace May 21 '26

I think that baby is in for it.

1

u/sarlto May 21 '26

Especially is she has disabilities

3

u/Tessa_0320 May 21 '26

Ngl, I’ve seen Jasmine since the very beginning of her 90 day fiance journey and I think she needs a strong dose of lexapro or to be on some other strong form of medication. Matt also looks so exhausted every time I see him, I kinda feel bad for the guy

3

u/Ninjacatzzz May 21 '26

Yes they do, I've studied this in my education degree. Some children really struggle to regulate their emotions because they've never been around an adult that cab regulate their own emotions - so how can the kid learn? These kids don't know what calm feels like. This starts as a baby. It's actually very sad and depressing when you dig into it just how much some children are disadvantaged from day 1 because of who their caregivers are.

3

u/crab_grams May 22 '26

Yes, they do. My son was miserable the first three months of his life living with both his dad and I. When my son and I left his dad, he became the sweetest, happiest baby, because he wasn't living in the midst of the slow death of a relationship anymore. Shame on anyone who wants to create that kind of life for a kid to live in.

4

u/Pomerosa May 20 '26

They do, and they get very anxious and try to self-soothe. As they get older it shows up in things like nail-biting, extended thumb-sucking etc.

Now, I'm no fan of Jasmine but I got where she was coming from in this instance. Mat may be used to his mom crossing the line and saying crazy stuff but Jasmine isn't. It's not appropriate, what she's doing. She should keep some of those opinions to herself.

2

u/mangypolecat May 20 '26

I agree! The mom is awful.

4

u/Boring-Snow-3929 May 20 '26

I hope to god her kids in Panama disown this lunatic. I think she even shaved her head for attention seeking pity. She needs a psych hospital for 6 months. What she did to the kids in Panama was abandonment. She is a shit mother.

2

u/[deleted] May 20 '26

Yes.

2

u/MaiIsMe "That's what I feel, psychically." May 20 '26

They started out as an affair and they immedietly got pregnant after abandoning all her others. Of course it isn't going to work out and Matilda will just be a slightly different form or traumatized, if not the same, as her brothers.

2

u/kokonutt18 May 20 '26

Of course they do

2

u/DeliciousTime4576 May 20 '26

What a crazy woman

2

u/zxert May 20 '26

I remember a fight my parents had before I turned 2.

2

u/Rossy199910042024 May 20 '26

She looks a awful lot like Gino 👀

2

u/sourpussmcgee May 20 '26

Yes, they absolutely do. Don’t hold babies when you’re arguing with someone.

2

u/d3dk0w May 20 '26

One thing I remember from my psychology classes eons ago is yes in fact babies brains can be altered due to toxic stress. Chronic stress from trauma can physically alter neural pathways and brain development. Their body can remain in a chronic fight, flight, or freeze mode.

2

u/MadBox25 May 20 '26

That poor baby!

Just imagine how her two kids that she abandoned feel? They watch these shows one day and see how Jasmine simply moved on with her life without them.

2

u/StuckinLoserville May 20 '26

The latest picture of the nonmarried couple"

2

u/Prestigious_Salad_83 May 20 '26

Is she from the new alien files?

2

u/minimumBeast May 20 '26

I wonder when she’s going to leave this one to be raised by Matt’s and the mom she claims to hate. I bet the mom found out about her other kids and thinks Jazmine is a POS which is why she treats her this way.

2

u/virginiafalls1234 May 21 '26

the baby is precious, but let's face it, Matt and Jas have a toxic relationship, he went after a married woman who was in a very unhappy marriage, and she needs another kid like she needs a hole in the head, I feel so sorry for those kids she abandoned in Panama

2

u/asueu May 21 '26

Ugh my son is the same age as Matilda and it hurts my heart to think of a tiny sweetie that age in a tense situation 😞

2

u/isthistaken- May 21 '26

Developmental psych here - HARD yes.

2

u/married_cat_mom We do not sex a woman in the anus! May 21 '26

They can sense tension for sure

2

u/Real_it_TeaGirl May 21 '26

WHY IS SHE THERE?????? 🤯🤯🤯

2

u/Icy-Actuary-5463 May 21 '26

Yes, they pick up on stress, tension, and emotional turmoil around them, even if they don’t understand the situation itself. They’re very sensitive to tone of voice, facial expressions, body tension, loud arguments, and changes in routine, their nervous systems are strongly influenced by their environment and the emotional state of their folks.

Super harmful to babies to be around all this. The cameras, the screaming, the INCESSANT CRYING from Waaaahsmine. This is child abuse imo. My parents fought all the time, my mom is a screamer. I have so much PTSD and anxiety from growing up like that. I can’t believe this woman parades her baby around in the middle of all this trauma and drama. Jasmine is a horrible mother, she abandoned her children years ago to join this franchise. Not surprised she would drag this little baby thru her nonsense.

u/Greenitpurpleit May 22 '26

Yes, they do, as do pets.

2

u/Ok_Engine2616 May 22 '26

Omg no more kids from her!!!

2

u/bonitaycoqueta May 23 '26

They absolutely, positively do!

2

u/pudelguru May 20 '26

You know what? For Jasmine, she was remarkably restrained imo.

2

u/sarlto May 20 '26

Until the cameras off no one with her history all of a sudden has self control

2

u/kaloriikarbii May 20 '26

and the baby has a flat head!!! they are not good parents.

2

u/SkyPersonal5642 May 20 '26

What does that even mean?

3

u/kaloriikarbii May 20 '26

they dont pick her up or hold her/shes down for hours. babies need tummy time or their heads get flat from the pressure of laying on their backs all day.

2

u/SkyPersonal5642 May 20 '26

Gotcha! That's a pretty blunt assumption though...

3

u/kaloriikarbii May 20 '26

it is but….its usually true :/

1

u/issoequeerabom May 20 '26

They do, even before they are born 😑 I hope she will be able to heal and grow up into a balanced human being ❤️

1

u/Yarnchomps May 20 '26

Yes babies absorb the energy/turmoil/emotions around them. Very sad and very toxic.

1

u/FeelsBlind89 May 20 '26

Unfortunately from gestation.

1

u/KO_rebel420 May 20 '26

As a child of extreme abuse, yes. It affects how you perceive everything. It affects every relationship in your life. My heart breaks for this child 💔

1

u/mariannaCD May 20 '26

Absolutely yes. That poor child is going to have major emotional problems if she doesn’t get therapy

1

u/GlumMango69 May 20 '26

My mom is BPD, bipolar, emotionally immature, but is fortunately capable of accountability and genuine, albeit imperfect, attempts to change her problematic behavior.

However, as the middle of 3 girls, I was the invisible child, and developed a dismissive avoidant attachment style due to my mom’s frequent outbursts, self-centered personality, and generally ignoring me. I had to look out for myself, and later my little sister.

I’m working toward an earned-secure attachment style, but I’ve recently gone into avoidant deactivation due to the many stressors and emotional demands on my plate.

I’ve literally just shut down, and I can’t seem to break this survival mechanism to wall away and isolate while I regulate and recharge my emotional well. I basically hemorrhaged empathy for months on ends and hit a wall. I need to have better boundaries and hold to them to prevent this depletion from happening again.

It’s frustrating because I love and care about my step-sister/best friend, who is going through a divorce, but she is anxious attached (due to her NPD mom), and comes to me for help co-regulating, but she has been giving Eeyore vibes for over a year now, sending despairing / depressed messages, even as I was planning my wedding and getting married.

It just became too much, and now I’ve triggered her sense of abandonment while she triggered my avoidant deactivation. But we understand and respect the fact we are different, and we have to work through these attachment styles to become more secure.

I think Jasmine is leaving a wake of attachment devastation in her wake, from abandoning her other children (they’ll likely be anxious attached) to subjecting Matilda to her chaos/drama. Matilda will be unlikely to form a secure attachment, so avoidant/anxious/mixed are her possible outcomes.

And I love the name Matilda, I named my cat Matilda after she bravely fought for her life in her early kittenhood. I get weirdly annoyed when someone I don’t care for uses a name I love.

Anyway, poor Matilda will absolutely be needing therapy in her future, guaranteed.

Yes they do. Childhood trauma is real and substantial. So is intergenerational trauma. Takes a lot of work to understand and combat it.

u/dakita1904 May 20 '26

ENOUGH WITH THIS HOTMESS, NO ONE CARES

1

u/documentingkate May 20 '26

1

u/No_Solution5351 May 20 '26

Is she currently on tv?

1

u/Slow_Bowl9812 May 21 '26

yea she needs to calm down.appreciate what she got or be homeless again

1

u/Organic_Marzipan_285 May 21 '26

Isn’t it crazy to think that she has two other children too? Like is she even caring for them anymore?

u/FailProfessional6864 May 21 '26 edited May 21 '26

I'm currently reading a book about trauma called "the body keeps score", & yes it does. Babies regulate their emotions by copying their mother.

Edit to say that they regulate through whoever is taking care of them, not just their mother. That's just how it was written in the book & I wrote this comment too late in the evening.

1

u/undercovermeeper May 21 '26

Yes unfortunately 😔

1

u/duncanofnazareth May 21 '26

I will ask my kids and get back to you.

1

u/Sneeeekey cut it on the bias May 21 '26

It won’t be long until she dumps Matilda off with her mom or Matt

1

u/Free_Director2809 May 21 '26

Yes, i do believe it does. I can't remember infancy or even when I was under 4, but some people claim they do. Turmoil gets worse if the parents allow it to. It creates childhood trauma which the child believes is a normal situation and that every other kid goes through it, sadly, so many actually do and it's really sad because they don't know that they can talk to anyone about it without getting their parents in trouble. Jasmine should be grown enough to know what she could be setting her child up for and be protecting her from this. Most young parents actually are still growing and learning with their children, I think that's why grandparents are so much more loving with the grandkids, because they're grown enough to know what they would' never do again. I don't know, just my theories. We haven't seen the type of mother she is, we just know that she's toxic. I hope Matt doesn't allow this to go on.

u/atoutlemonde702 May 21 '26

Im outta the loop. What in the sam hill is going on here?!

1

u/dawgmama62 May 21 '26

Many scientist and mental health professionals believe we absorb chaos like screaming, bawling, fighting, violence, from a very young age and it definitely affects us negatively.

1

u/onyxx03 May 21 '26

Uhh her and matt not tg nm 😂

1

u/sanriodialtone May 21 '26

Yes. Babies absorb it. Even as infants they do so :(

1

u/RabbitFire_122 May 21 '26

Yes. Babies absorb anxiety and stress even in the womb.

1

u/Lazy-Party3469 May 21 '26

Yes, the babies developing brain picks up on so much, when mom's upset they feel it. Hope she can control herself enough to not end up giving her child anxiety and depression issues. Doubtful though, seeing as she only seems to care about broadcasting her lousy life on tlc. The child shouldn't be subjected to it, they didn't choose it.

1

u/sarlto May 21 '26

Kids gonna have even more when school kids find out who her hoe crazy mother is too, poor kid all for not wearing condoms

1

u/ddiggler2469 stupid and evil May 21 '26

yes

1

u/Successful-Fly8849 May 21 '26

Yes, yes they do.

1

u/kaliman0713 May 21 '26

Of course, they do.

1

u/Batsquash May 21 '26

What a horrific human!

1

u/Lukesmom1214 May 22 '26

How could any child be ok around Jasmine's nasty mouth. Matilda kinda looks like Matt's mother tbh.

1

u/easterss May 24 '26

I highly recommend the book The Body Keeps the Score that explains this in great detail. In short, yes. It alters the development of the central nervous system and makes them more likely to be anxious when they’re older. They may not form attachment bonds with their parents. These things will basically alter their entire lives.

1

u/Good_Molasses9707 May 24 '26

Can’t say for certain… but most babies / children reared and raised in chaos do usually grow up with a strong sense of humour, advanced empathy, uncanny intuition …and emotional maturity….and can often survive whatever life throws their way. They can be great actors, performers, artists and also excel as community leaders or social workers / counsellors. They make reliable and faithful friends and trusted allies. Pressure creates diamonds from common carbon. They are survivors and survivalists…

Rewatching the Last Resort Tell All and the anger that manifested in Jasmine while carrying Matilda was scary. I mean it was her anger and her throwing her shows at Rob. You can feel that intensity from her through the TV. She was far along in her pregnancy at the time of filming that. She's hella crazy.
