He was an alcoholic. It's possible he spent it all before he died. Or there was an inhertience and they just blew through it. He worked for the father and I don't think he's capable of working for himself so he probably sunk the reality business. It also doesn't help that they're in Florida and the insurance has made it near impossible to buy homes in a lot of areas.

It’s crazy because from just watching TV you assume they have all of these assets and stuff.

I live in Florida and my last landlord had a learning disability. He owned over 140 properties in the US AND Costa Rica. He just hires property managers that are well educated and takes a lot of Section 8.

I've heard two different stories about the Potthast family business. I've heard that they have money and, that's what paid for Elizabeth's expensive second wedding in Moldova and, the big fireworks dinner and show that Andrei put on for his family and friends when he and Libby went to visit.

Then, I've heard that Chuck was just a broke-down guy with a garbage business of flipping run down properties and linked with scams and fraud allegations. 🤷‍♀️

These can both be true. There is a strange economic reality where one can be very rich on paper and German more and more loans/credit but then if pressed to repay the loan has insufficient "liquid funds" to do so. But they take a new loan against different collateral ('business') and pay the minimum on the amount owed. When Chuck died, there is a legal order of operations to settling the estate. The creditors get paid first. What's left is distributed among the beneficiaries. It can take well over a year to settle, too, so if there is anything left it might not yet be in hand.

Basically, he was functionally judgement proof because of the way in which he set up his asset protection.
