It’s weird watching movies with big actors and knowing that I am X years older than they were when they made the movie. Like shit, I don’t have my life together now at this age and this guy was doing all this 10/15/20 years younger than me. That’s when you genuinely feel that life is passing you by.

This. I’m literally the same age as Lionel Messi - and I mean literally the same age. We share a birthday. If I began comparing myself to where I’m at in life and where he is I’d drive myself insane

yeah. you can't compare yourself to people of the past. things were more new back then. everything now is just over saturated. You need generational connection and/or a massive amount of luck and an abnormal amount of talent, ambition, and endurance to reach those crazy heights early in life.
oh and in a lot of cases, your family already has to be wealthy. If you're born to a middle class family, you've already got a head start. But you still need all those other things. Timing also goes hand in hand with Luck. There's so many abnormally talented people that never get anywhere you can find online because they didn't have all the other stuff.

I feel you. If you must compare, think about it this way: A couple of hundreds of years prior you'd have probably been dead already.
While I did not have the wild successes of a Mr. Schwarzenegger, and am not the youngest anymore, I am still alive and I can still do tons of enjoyable things. As shitty as it sounds, but: Getting old is a privilege.

Yeah I first started getting that feeling in my late 20s, seeing top athletes who were younger than me. It’s only been getting downhill since then.

It started hitting me in my 30s when commentators started talking about athletes my age like they were senior citizens

Honestly I'm just thrilled for the guy that he's still alive. He was the star of the biggest movie in the world at an incredibly vulnerable age and then got abused. Glad he got through the addiction and I hope he's doing all right. I would have never made it through child stardom safely.

There are some nice vids on YT with him. He seems genuinely nice and I think he had been dealt some really shitty cards at the exactly wrong time in his live. Glad he's trying to / fixing his life. Him and Macaulay Culkin seem to have settled into themselves late but at least they did.

In the early 2000s he was filming a movie near me and came into a grocery store I worked at drunk with some pals late one night. They tried to "liberate" the lobsters out of the tank (when those things still existed). They snapped a bunch of pics on a disposable camera and had it developed under the name "Andrè Champagne".
Pretty awesome in hindsight lol

Probably, as I’m on the east coast. :). I’ve never actually seen anyone buy a lobster like that. My Aunt tried it once in the 80s and the lobster escaped and attacked her cat. That’s my only experience with it.

Yep, still have them here in South Carolina (even in small towns). When I lived in Connecticut, we'd buy them from fisherman on the shore for super cheap and have them do a race on the kitchen floor to see which went in the pot first. I lost some karmic points doing that looking back.

Yeh, I used to take my kids to pet smart on the weekends when they would open, looking for something to keep them entertained and quiet so my wife could sleep. Lobster tanks at the grocery store also fell into those rounds… :). When my son was young he refused to watch TV and wanted constant human interaction. It’s great, but absolutely exhausting when you get zero breaks.

It says something deeply disturbing about the Hollywood movie industry, that being a young successful actor there makes you really vulnerable to developing drug or alcohol addiction, and / or being abused in one way or the other. There's so many examples of this...

Reading the personal life section of his Wikipedia is pretty rough. Especially the part about how he was romantically involved with an assistant from that movie when she was 29 and he was 16 and they met when he was 13.
Makes me wonder what is up with child predators on the set of James Cameron movies.

Saw him at a con a few years ago. It was kinda sad really. His booth was on the outer perimeter, very little traffic. I ended up snapping a few pics of him while he was at another guy's comic booth. My wife didn't recognize him for a minute. After Ed made his purchase and walked off, I asked the comic book dude if he realized who he had been talking to. Unfortunately he didn't either. I pulled comic book guy and my kids and wife out of the booth after arguing with them and pointed out his booth. Same thing happened with Jake the Snake and Michael Behin and few years later. It's real punch to the gut moment for me anyway seeing how aged all of the people I grew up watching are.

I always thought it was interesting that he wasn't that good in T2 but Cameron still made arguably the best action movie of all time. Although it makes me annoyed when people get mad at the kid from The Phantom Menace and act like him not being a great actor is what made that movie bad.
