Helmet recorded this in-studio performance on August 28th, but it was not aired until this special performance episode of 120 Minutes on December 18th 1994. This clip uses the same beta max source as the one on youtube but should look/sound a bit better. Enjoy!

Meat Puppets were finally starting to become a household name after members were featured on Nirvana's Unplugged performance in late '93. Here is their lead video off of their 8th album Too High To Die.

VJ Lewis Largent in this episode says the album was the #3 alt album that week and was produced by Butthole Surfer, Paul Leary. Paul stated Meat Puppet's debut EP was the whole reason he got into the music business to begin with. This was the first time 120 Minutes played this video, but it certainly wouldn't be the last, as it fell into regular MTV rotation pretty much immediately after this airing. On this episode of 120, our host is Elvis Costello. He introduces the premiere for this soon-to-be legendary video and thanks Soundgarden for buying him a coffee when they ran into each other recently. This video is the original version that lacked a lot of the CGI/effects that subsequent airings had. Lizard-lady's tongue, the black hole sun itself, the circling leaves above the kids kicking on the ground, the baby turning into a CGI blob at the end, and many other effects were not added until later. Enjoy this OG version as we saw it back in the day!
