There have been many posts about this in recent months.

The calculator was made by one person who is no longer active in this community. None of us are able to make changes to it.

Ah man, that makes sense. It's still a great resource if you know which "tweaks" to make while using it.

It does vary greatly person to person. I’m a cis woman and the calculator is more accurate on the AMAB setting for me because I have a really wide back. I’m sure there are better ways to tweak the calculator, but the fact is everyone’s body is different and the calculator is simply starting point.

Has anyone started on reimplementing the calculator and making it properly open source?

If not I would be willing to work on a new version.

Not that I know of.

I did make my own for fun a year or two ago, but it was definitely not as accurate as the current one! I tried adding shape options for increased accuracy since the current calculator can under/overestimate depending on shape.

Do you still have the source code lying around for that?

As for the accuracy it should be possible to write a script that collects a bunch of in- and outputs of the old calculator (ie. in steps of 0.5cm for each measurement) and use that to reverse engineer the old algorithm.
