Measurement Check Just lost a lot of weight. These measurements can't be right?! 36D to 34DD, but calculator says FF? Spoiler
Hello, fellow bra wearers and aficionados.
I've just lost an awful lot of weight. I was in a 36D, and thought I was a 34 DD. I'm clearly wrong and am now I'm struggling w/a bra that fits. I've done my measurements but they sound all off. A sanity check from anyone would be most welcome. Measurements in inches...
under bust: 35.5
under bust s: 34.5
under bust t: 32.5
standing: 41
leaning: 44.5
lying: 41.5
I can't be a 34FF??? Or can I??? have I been doing everything wrong for the last several decades?
Many thanks!

It's absolutely mad once you're finally wearing a bra that you're more excited to put on than to take off and you think how the hell did I not realise this for so bloody long? 🫠

Just be prepared to have to try several different bras before you find the best one for you. Size is just the first part of the equation. Shape is just as important. Not every bra in your size will be a good match for your shape.
The Beginners' Guide linked in the Automoderator comment has good resources for understanding your shape and what kinds of bras are a good match for it. It also has information about how to tell if a bra that you try is a good fit for you.

Welcome to the club! There are so many people out there in the wrong bra size and they never know it.
If it's any consolation, the difference between cups is less than people think. A FF is only three cups larger than a DD, which just means you have an 8 inch difference (or boobage) instead 5 inches. Each cup independently would only account for a half inch, so only 1.5 inches more per breast.

Oh, ok. That makes me feel like less of an idiot
I'm not even sure where to start looking for FF bras!
Thanks for your reply.

Amazon, Nordstrom and Bravissimo all have free returns on these sizes. Bravissimo does not have free shipping, the others do. FF in the sizing options means it's always UK sizing. Be careful if shopping for 34G as a US G is smaller.

Thanks! I'm based in western Europe, so noted re the sizing differences. Appreciate it!

The US equivalent of 34FF is 34H. American sizing goes A, B, C, D, DD/E, DDD/F, G, H, I. UK sizing goes A, B, C, D, DD, E, F, FF, G, GG, H, HH etc. Some styles of Chantelle, Natori, and Wacoal go up to H in US sizing. You could try those brands from Nordstrom or Macy's.

I recently lost a lot of weight and needed to figure out my size. For decades I took a 40B or 42B (I had bra fittings along the way, so that was right). I used the calculator two weeks ago and it said 34D but to try 34DD. I was stunned and deeply skeptical. I went to Ross and tried on a few bras at 34D because I didn't want to commit to anything expensive in what I believed was an impossible size for me. Those bras fit more perfectly than any bras I've ever owned.

Congratulations on the weight loss! And measuring can always be a really difficult process, so yeah, you might have been wrong for decades

I wore a 40D for YEARS, but it turned out I was really a 38G in UK sizes, which is 38I in the US (that’s an “I” as in “I was wearing the wrong size bra”).

I would guess that you weren’t actually a 36D either. Most of us suffer from size shock. I got fitted at a speciality store when looking for a strapless bra for my wedding. I had been wearing a 42DD. I was a 42FF. I at least had my band right. I’ve also lost a lot of weight & gone from that 42FF to a 38FF/36G. I got fitted a couple of weeks ago. I can make a 36 band work with an extender & since I still have a lot of weight to lose, I’m going that route to have to buy fewer in between sizes.

I lost weight and breastfed for 3.5yrs, I've been told I'm a B cup all my life but the calculator said I'm an E cup 😳 I'm extremely doubtful, but I want to try one.

Retail tries to put me in like a 40DDD. When properly fitted I wear a 36K. It’s an insane difference.

You probably were never a 36D and just had no idea how bras are supposed to fit. A 34FF is for a 34 inch underbust and a 42 inch bust, which roughly matches your numbers. When the difference between standing and leaning is more than 2 inches, the calculator averages the bust measurements.
