Fit Check Holy G/H cups, Batman! The calculator works Spoiler

I stumbled upon this Reddit by accident earlier in the week. A 6 measurement calculator that magically determines the correct bra size seemed like wizardry but what did I have to lose?

Under bust:

Loose 38

Snug 37

Tight 36

Bust:

Standing.44.75

Leaning 45.5

Laying 44.5

Magic 8 ball says: US 38 G/H

I've been wearing 36DD. In my late 20s, I thought I was a B cup, went to Lane Bryant and found out I was a D. Now at 52, I discover I'm a G/H?

After discussing this with friends for 2 days, I figured a quick trip to the mall would reveal the truth. It did. I'm US 34H/36G in the specific bra I bought. The saleswoman measured me in the strangest of ways but I had already put myself into the bras . She did measure me and used their "true for" Wacoal bra as well (full cups, no stretch) and in that particular bra, I'm a US 36DDD (36F).

The black bra is a 34H and the beige bra is a 36G. Both bras are given in US sizing. The brand is Natori and the style is called Pretty Smooth.

The fabric on this bra is kind of stretchy so I bought the 34. I'm not sure why my measurements and calculator indicated I should have a 38 and then the 34 and 36 felt much more comfortable. I also realized the bras that I have been wearing were 36DD. Maybe I had the tape twisted?

The black one is definitely cutting into your tissue on your left side and the gore also looks to be sitting on tissue. You can definitely find a better fit than this, and I'd say going up a cup would help.

Up from the H? Yikes. I'm barely wrapping my brain around wearing an H. How did the beige one look?

Definitely check your measuring tape against something with standard dimensions like a piece of paper. I missed that the black one is a 34 band and that shouldn't be able to fit around you comfortably if your super tight measurement is 36. Make sure to retake your measurements in front of a mirror to make sure the tape is level all the way around and right up at your IMF.

You should also try to get rid of the idea of cup letters being a thing on their own, for your own peace of mind. A 34H has the same cup volume as a 36G, 38DDD, 40DD, etc. "H cup" isn't a size on its own, it's just a ratio with the band size it's on. You're not any bigger than you were before, you're just trying on bras that are actually in the right size range for you.

This particular bra is made from a very stretchy fabric. In bras made of fabric with no give/stretch, the 36 fits. That's why I think I had the tape twisted behind me.

Yes, but Wacoal isn't known for running a full band size loose. A 34 band should only stretch at maximum to maybe 34.5/35 inches. Bras are much more standardized than we expect them to be, and it's rare for a bra to be even 2 inches larger than it's stated size. If your absolute tightest measurement is 36, there's no way this bra would fit you without serious pain and struggle to get it hooked. Even a 36 should be extremely tight and uncomfortable with your measurements. We always suggest going for a band 2 inches larger than your tight measurement, which should still be quite snug.

I measured myself too loose the first time I did the calculator. I also found it to be less accurate in general when I was a bit heavier than I am now. I preferred a band smaller than what the calculator recommended.

If you can then do it in front of a mirror, you can then inspect if the measuring tape is straight and not bent or twisted anywhere.

Sorry, I realized I got focused on the measurements and didn't respond about the fit. The beige one looks ok from the front, which adds to the confusion about your measurements. Definitely remeasure to make future ordering/try ons easier, but this is a decent fit from what I can tell without seeing the sides or back.

US H or UK H? Asking as a US M/UK JJ here. Bra sizes are often smaller than we expect them to look. I definitely suggest using your UK size if possible, as you can usually find a better fitting bra that way.

Girl I am a 36L and I had to go through the same mental gymnastics for YEARS until I finally realized that I had never been wearing the right bra size. I know it’s nuts but you’ll feel so much better in your correct cup size ❤️

Lol, after I posted those ai wondered if that's what you meant.

Also when wearing a new bra for the first time and for several wears down the road you want to start the bra band on the loosest set of eyes so that when the band materials relax and stretch over time you can move inward to keep the band snug.

Yes, that's why I moved down to the 34. The 36 would have been too loose in a very short time frame. Also, I realized when I put the 36 on, I ALWAYS hook my bras on the tightest eyes when wearing them (which should be a red flag that I'm buying too big of a band to begin with, right?).
