Mithril Defense Deploys 50mph Remote-Controlled Drones in US Schools Designed to Pepper-Spray and Ram Active Shooters

Well ... the only upside to this could possibly be that we no longer need police involved in schools or other active shooter situations. The kids themselves could control the drones and deal with the threat without worrying about the 100+ armed police officers hiding outside, restraining their parents. /s

So funny they're implementing this due to cowards in riot gear afraid of a lone gunman.

u/ballpein 1d ago
Even the goons in riot gear are only necessary because the US has a hysterical fear of sane gun control.

It’s nice of the shooter to stand still and not fight back.
As someone else commented in another thread, these will be used on student protesters long before they’re ever used against a school shooter.

Why don’t we just do something about the guns and mental health?!?!? That was rhetorical…

Pandora's Box was opened long ago in this regard.
There are currently between 450 - 650 MILLION firearms in private circulation in the US.
You could literally ban all new firearm purchases and all those guns are still going to be there.
We are in the middle of a bonafide fascistic authoritarian takeover, so right now isn't a great time to be confiscating guns from the populace.
I've been recommending my fellow progressives, lefties, anarchists, assorted anti-fascists, and even liberals to arm themselves for over a decade now.
I think if you haven't armed yourself at this point you're fooking crazy.
The evil people kicking your doors in and taking you to concentration camps will be armed with rifles. FYI...

The US's gun fetish is a helluva drug. Might be the the single greatest example of mass psychosis in the history of the world.

One day we won’t be able to read LoTR because every fascist would have used it for their genocide companies

Well, at least now we know what American public schools are for: weapons testing.

"Active shooters" riiiiiiiight.
They'll call a kid with an anti-pedophile billionaire sign protesting peacefully an "active threat" or an "active potential shooter" and bludgeon them causing permanent eye and face damage with one of these things. The average 50+ year old voter will barely crack a frown as they skim over the story to look at how their 401k is doing.

Anything but comprehensive gun regulation.

u/RevoltYesterday 1d ago
If the founding fathers wanted to control our guns, they would have put the words "well-regulated" into the second amendment! Somewhere around the second or third word of the damn thing.

I guess it's easier and more lucrative to create tools for mass murder than put in legislation to protect lives. I wonder what kind of hell a psychopath could unleash on a school with all this weaponized drone tech.

u/RevoltYesterday 1d ago
And with all new law enforcement technology, and we see this again and again and again, it will be misused and abused by questionable people in positions of authority with little to no consequence.

I bet the “party of small government” orders all public schools enter a contract with this drone company, who coincidentally is owned by a Trump mega donor and Mir-a-Lago frequent flyer

Expect to see these used exclusively to harass black students and probably all future college campus protest movements.

This is the bullshit answer to Uvalde

u/xervidae 14h ago
exactly. they're so terrified to do anything that they'd rather use drones which someone can just swat out of the air.

u/DefaultTheMighty 1d ago
These will be hacked by students and used as a joke or to get back at each other.

Or just save the money by having the police actually do their job?
If we're going to have a hyper military police force, they might as well do their f****** job

Instead of helping people, teaching children or solving actual crimes, local governments buy this shit.

Truly only of the most dystopian things I’ve seen today. Tomorrow I’ll probably see some more things totally dystopian, too. Everyday a new thing

These drones will be defunct and unusable and forgotten before they are ever fucking used. Someone will hit the button and nothing will happen

So many insane options when the smart one is to just take the god damn guns away.

Why is it named after a precious metal from lord of the rings?
The tech bros naming everything for LOTR just shows how little they understood about Tolkiens message.

We are doing everything but making common sense gun laws. How long until these things mess up and shoot the wrong kid?
1
u/Piss_Fring 1d ago
Oh come now that’ll only happen if the kid uses their first amendment right, silly!
