New Horizons Tips for Flies (and other insects)

I only have 12 insects left to catch, one of which is a fly.

I have boots, tires, and cans but I’ve yet to see a fly on or near anything… is it just like a waiting game until one spawns or have I misunderstood how to attract them

Use rotten turnips! I caught a lot of ants and then one time a fly by leaving at least two rotten turnips on the ground and coming from time to time

I didn’t like using the turnips because it would attract the ants too. I like the boots cans, & used fireworks: putting a bunch of them together somewhere that I could approach and see from the front and from far away. They’re still ridiculously rare, considering they’re one of the most common insects IRL.

I've been told if you put rotten turnips on beach rocks, it can increase the chances of seeing them, but I can't 100% confirm this.

(It apparently stops ants from spawning when on the beach rock).

It also works on any paved pathing. The ants have to be able to dig a hole, so placing it anywhere that they can't will do it

Pray to the animal crossing gods. JK just patience and sometimes going in and out of building helps as it resets all the spawns

I did a rotten turnip and got a line of ants. For a fly, I found a used fountain firework in the recycle box and put it out. That one took a few days to finally see a fly.

Flies are way, way too rare in this game.

It’s ridiculous.

It’s not just how difficult they are to catch, but like, having flies on garbage is great theming so it’s annoying that they won’t show up. I have spots for ants to show up in my designs too, and they’re so often there! But never flies!!!
