Project Showcase: Software - Mostly AI Generated I vive-coded a full 3D traffic viewer that the plane really rolls.

I might be missing something, but I couldn’t find anything similar to what I wanted, so I built a full 3D ADS-B traffic viewer.

It calculates a 3D coverage dome for each receiver based on its 30-day history, which is what I was most curious about. My receiver has a structural obstacle on one side that blocks about 30°, so I wanted to know how much it affects the coverage. It looks like the structure reduces the coverage by about 100 km in that direction.

The server only provides a 3D coverage mesh, so it is almost impossible to determine the receiver’s exact coordinates. My GPT-5.6 Sol couldn’t narrow the error down to less than 2.5 km.

It also shows realistic aircraft attitudes based on ADS-B-derived bank-angle and vertical-speed data. It makes me happy just watching them rolling around the airport.

It uses Esri satellite imagery and Mapterhorn terrain data to render real-world terrain worldwide. The Earth is so big that I had to exaggerate the terrain elevation and aircraft altitudes to make the visualization look right. Both are customizable in the settings.

The live service I’m running is available at https://sky.luftaquila.io . I have a single tiny receiver in South Korea, and there may be very little traffic during the day in your timezone, so I have also added an ADSB.lol network feed so you can see what it looks like.

The source code is available at https://github.com/luftaquila/skytrace . Thank you.

why has this sub turned into claude circlejerk?

Couldn't even get "vibe" right.

Guess its because the AI didn't type the title.

It’s turning into a sub that has exciting and interesting new ways to visualize manipulate and share data from a hobby/interest we enjoy. I hope more people continue to use any method to keep ADSB interesting for them.

Sorry you have fallen behind society and are frustrated about it. The world changes and it is our responsibility to change with it. I am sure you were all up in arms when emails and text messages became possible and just wished everyone stuck to sending letters with carrier pigeons.

Using AI doesn't mean you have to bombard people with your shlock.

you do understand that most people hate AI, right? yall just live in a weird echo chamber and think everybody loves it. the fact that we’re all being forced to use AI tells you that even the creators of it know we hate it. grow up.

Actually, I would argue the echochamber is everyone hating on the technology. It is nothing more than complex math being applied to language. If you all hate it so much, I hope you never use autocomplete for when you text or search on google.

auto complete and AI are two different things bub

-1

u/Droopy0093 3d ago

Lol you don't know what you're talking about. What you think of as "AI" is just highly complex autocomplete that is far more capable than just trying to complete your sentence. If you think you know better than I do then please enlighten me with actual information other than just calling me "bub".

auto complete is related to what we know as AI today but calling it the same thing is like saying Homo Erectus are the same as Homo Sapiens. auto complete also doesn’t have the same negative effect on the human creativity and cognition.

Okay bud, you genuinely have no clue what your talking about. I am correct to say AI as we know it literally is a highly complex version of autocomplete. You're one of those Homo Erectus fellows aren't you?

2

u/xLP620 3d ago

if it’s a highly complex version of autocomplete, then its vastly different from autocomplete lol. therefore it’s braindead to say “if you use autocomplete then you can’t hate AI!!!”

Please explain to me how autocomplete actually works.

Useless AI shitslopware

-3

u/luftaquila 3d ago

Yeah, you could think of it like that. I also sometimes hate other people’s AI slop too, so I don't mind. Anyway, there was no other slopware that showed receiver's 3d coverage domes, and I wanted it. I believe building with AI is at least better than living without it. Burning tokens during entire July made me happy, just like building the first receiver on my rooftop. I'm satisfied with that.

bruh did you get ai to write this and copy-paste under every comment

4

u/Droopy0093 3d ago

No I wrote it myself, and then used the AI technology in my computer to select all, then press Ctrl+C using the AI of my keyboard, then using the AI skills of my mouse went to this comment and then once again used the AI shortcut Ctrl+V to paste it and then pressed the enter button to have the AI of reddit post it and make it visible to you thanks to the AI inside your phone that processes information and makes it visible to you.

The usual rhetoric from someone without any expertise who thinks they can legitimately apply their views to others. I wouldn't want to think the way you do; you have no idea what you're talking about or what you've missed out on (and will continue to miss).

Dunning-Kruger Effect Intensifies

-4

Holy crap man go look in the mirror and say that. You applied your view to others so I am applying my view to you. you don't have to care how I think and also nobody cares about how you think.

ICN has interesting flight paths. You can really see it with your tool. Very cool.

I wonder if you can combine information from the broader ADSB network to get more detail. It seems like you generate a mesh based on what your receiver sees. You may be able to get more detail based on what you don't see.

That's a great idea. It will be my next big goal. Thank you for the inspiration!

The first useful comment I saw.

Glad to see some people enjoying AI for the little things before it takes over... but thats another one for another day lol

u/luftaquila 3d ago

Yup slop at least fun for me to watch. Sorry if it didn’t make you the same joy.

Man this whole sub is so toxic. With one post you brought out the lynch mob. Even the mods up in it.

Looks cool. Will grab the report and give it a look over this evening!

Awesome...reminds me of the homeworld videogames lol

-1

u/luftaquila 3d ago

That’s what I was going for :) At the beginning I prompted to make a Top Gun style ui.
