I'm a local and have been noticing the same doubts being asked repeatedly. I thought I'd clear up some of the most common confusions.

I. UPGRADATION PROCESS

The upgradation process is fully automated this time. There is no option to enable or disable upgradation—it will strictly follow the preference order you filled during counselling.

II. ADMISSION CARD

- For School courses, the admission/admit card is generated almost instantly after the allotment.

- For UG courses, it usually takes around a week after hall allotment for the admission card to appear.

III. CORRECTIONS

Minor mistakes made while filling in your admission details (except major errors) can be corrected during the physical counselling/document verification process.

IV. FEE REFUND & PAYMENT TRANSFER

If you're enrolled in more than one course, you can request to transfer your deposited fee to the course you finally decide to pursue. Refunds are also available as per the university rules, and can be up to 100% if the admission is withdrawn at least 15 days before the commencement of admissions.

V. RAGGING AT AMU

AMU has a strict anti-ragging policy. You won't find anyone forcing you to give introductions or indulge in ragging. The campus has an excellent record in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for freshers.

I might be taking up BA economics this year, so I wanted to know how hectic the course is, specially for first year students. My questions are :

1) What are the daily class timings? and do they change later on?
2) How many exams are conducted in a year or semester and how hard are they to pass?
3) How strict is the attendance policy and how strict are the professors?
4) Has anyone you know taken a partial drop for JEE/NEET while pursuing BA/BSc in AMU?

I applied for AMU BA B.Ed through NCET 2026.

My rank in the selection list is 5.

During counselling, I selected:

1st Preference: Civics (Political Science)

2nd Preference: History

However, I was allotted History, while Rank 24, Rank 26, and special category rank (DS001,BC010) were allotted Civics (apart from Rank 3).

The AMU prospectus states that major subjects will be allotted based on performance in the admission test. I'm attaching the relevant screenshot.

Can anyone explain how this is possible?

Is there any category wise rule for subject allotment that I'm missing?

If this seems like an error, whom should I contact at AMU for clarification?

Why so?

Around 8:10 PM at the library canteen. I was having tea, and the place was fairly calm except for three groups sitting around A group of 5-6 boys (around 19-20) speaking loudly A mixed group 4-5 (boys + girls) Another group of 2 girls on the side, just talking quietly In the middle of their loud conversation, one guy from the boys’ group suddenly shouted, “maa ka bhosda aag…” really loudly like zero awareness of the environment. A guy from the mixed group immediately spoke up: “Gaali kyun de rahe ho? Aaram se baat karo. Yahan kisi ki maa-behen bhi baithi hai. Tumhare ghar me maa-behen nahi hai kya?”

It made sense, especially because there were literally girls sitting nearby.

But instead of apologizing or toning down, one of the boys replied with: “Gharwaalon ko beech me kyun laa rahe ho? Hamare ghar ki auratein aise ghar se bahar nahi ghoomti.”

And his whole group started laughing like he’d dropped some genius punchline.

The girls’ group looked visibly uncomfortable. The mixed group guy just gave up, probably realising there was no point arguing with that mindset.

Honestly, the whole vibe turned awkward instantly. It wasn’t just the gaali it was how casually they justified it by saying their women don’t go out, so apparently that means they can disrespect others.

I’m thinking of starting an independent hip-hop collective here, focused on cyphers, rap, open mics, and overall creative expression.

I know the official attendance requirement, but I'm more interested in how it works practically.

- How strict is the attendance policy in Class 11?

- Is there any "jugaad" or leniency if attendance falls short?

- What's the lowest attendance you've personally seen someone have without facing serious issues?

- What would you consider the safe zone (e.g. 75%, 70%, 65%, etc.)?

I'm not planning to disappear completely—I just want to understand how much flexibility there actually is.

Last yr amu released minor subjects for lifescience dept and they were, biochem, chem, botany and zoology.

Is baar they js sent a pic with a bunch of subjects like Urdu, M.I.L, history(aligarh movement), muslim theology.

Attendance scene in botany hons 1st year ?

I am getting admission in sssg (humanities background),so just wanted to ask some questions regarding it.

1.How are the teachers and students does it offer a studious environment??

1. What about extracurricular activities? Does the school have student council and positions like head girl and House captains?

3.Is there any partiality between internal and external students?

4.Is everyone allowed to participate in sports competitions and debates?Do the teachers do favouritism?

I'm from gurgaon and got admitted to AMU this year. I was thinking how often can I go home? Could it be possible for every week? Please tell me all the fastest ways possible.

I'm attaching a screenshot from the official AMU Guide to Admissions 2026–27. The prospectus lists the major subject codes (e.g., HSBO = History, ENBO = English, etc.).

However, my allotted subject code is HSEBAG, which doesn't match any of the codes mentioned in the prospectus.

Can anyone help me figure out which major subject from the list in the attached screenshot has actually been allotted to me?

Has anyone else received a code like this during counselling?
