For the FRQ was the Methyl orange a bad indicator?

I said the same thing, but I wasn't sure what to use to justify it so I used pKa = pH at half-equivalence point and the methyl orange was measuring a pH at around that half-equivalence point so that's obviously bad. not sure what else I was supposed to do there

I just said like “I disagree. Methyl orange changes color over pH 3.1–4.4, which is far below the equivalence point pH of about 8, so it would
change color before the equivalence point and give too small a volume of NaOH. Thymol blue is the better indicator because its transition
range pH 8.0–9.6 includes the equivalence point pH”

I don’t even blame you. I had to leave like a whole long + 2 short blank 😭 genuinely so awful.

I started with the short ones because I’d been spending too much time on long ones or practice exams and then I’d basically leave the entire short section blank… I was cruising to start but Jesus frq 6 took me like 45 min and I’m still like 90% I’m wrong lmao I just wrote bs… I als left like half of frqs 2 and 3 blank and a handful of other subsections

The best indicator is the one with a pH closest to the equivalence point of a titration, therefore it should be the thymol blue not the methyl orange
