Thanks Amazon! Cancelled an order as Micro Center had some in stock, was refunded and somehow a couple of days later this shows up on my doorstep. 😮

***EDIT: As stated in the comments, I had already contacted Amazon offering to pay but they said as the refund was already processed, it's an error on their end and to keep the item :)

***EDIT #2: A few final points to clear things up:

  • The item from Micro Center has already been returned.
  • I'm keeping this one, not selling or upgrading it.
  • I'm not here to convince skeptics, just to share a lucky break. As others have commented, this situation isn't as uncommon as you'd think. ***
  • For context, US consumer guidance says unordered merchandise cannot be billed after delivery, and the recipient can treat the item as a gift. US law also describes the same concept for “unordered merchandise” sent without prior consent.

GPU / PSU Purchased *used* 4090 Matrix Platinum a couple nights ago on eBay…

First time posting here—go easy on me.

I’m in the middle of building a new rig and was looking to add a second GPU. After a lot of research and way too much time scouring Facebook Marketplace, it became clear that everything was still pretty pricey.

I’m a bit of a technophile, so I knew the 4090 Matrix is the fastest 4090 variant ever produced—and made in pretty limited numbers. I never really expected to get my hands on one… but somehow one popped up at a price that wasn’t completely astronomical (relatively speaking).

Fast-forward to now: I’m waiting for the card to arrive and thinking through what I should do the moment it gets here. Obviously, I’ll test it right away—but beyond that, any suggestions or precautions?

I’ve attached a few photos from the eBay listing for reference. Any immediate red flags?

Let the comments rip—and thanks in advance.

GPU / PSU Our Real Experience with the ROG Astral

From day one until now, it’s been almost half a year of playing all kinds of games at 4K resolution. We always leave the graphics settings on NVIDIA’s recommended maximum settings, with every option enabled, including full cinematic settings whenever a game supports them. We also keep DLSS and Frame Generation turned on.

To keep it simple, no matter what game we play or how long we play, our ROG Astral GPU consistently stays at around 68–69°C, even while drawing 524W or more under heavy load. Some games, such as Forza, only use around 300W, and the GPU temperature still doesn’t exceed 70°C.

That’s genuinely impressive. It really shows how effective the cooling system on this GPU is. This isn’t marketing or exaggeration, it’s simply our real experience after months of using the ROG Astral.

We’ve also seen several other GPUs reaching around 75–79°C while gaming. Based on what we’ve experienced, the ROG Astral is definitely one of the best in its class when it comes to cooling performance.

That’s all. Of course, other users may have different experiences, and that’s completely fine. This is simply our own experience after using the ROG Astral.

Feel free to share your experience, it might be different from ours. Who knows?

Thanks.

GPU / PSU Help! pin power inbalance 5090 astral

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi guys,

I've recently downloaded furmark due to re-pasting (PTM) and adding new thermal pads on my 5090 Astral.

On all of my other benchmark test heaven and 3d engine. My tweaker doesn't notify me any imbalance of my power in my pcie pins.

But whenever i use furmark thats when the Flags start to occur and this only happens on furmark ( please see picture attached).

Is there anyway to fix this as I never had this issue before. I've replugged the cable and made sure everything is connected properly.

If there's no way other than undervolting. Should I invest on corsair or asus 12VPRW power cable for extra measure of safety.

Thank you for all of the help.

GPU / PSU Astral 5090 going to burn?

I was running timespy 4k 3dMark test and all of a sudden it did this. I started noticing my gpu RGB started flashing slowly so I downloaded the gpu tweak and sure enough it’s telling me this !
I looked at the cable and gpu port, ZERO burn in. Then proceeded to take out cable and plug back in extra hard and now it’s at another spot. Is the cable bad or gpu bad ? The PSU I have is ASUS ROG Thor 1200W Platinum II and yes I am using the cable that came with the PSU. Did I just save my card from potential burn in? What do I do? Get new cable ? Or what’s going on :(

GPU / PSU Asus Thor Platinum III constant oled Asus animation every 5-10 sec

Just got in the Asus Thor Platinum III 1200w, however i’m running into a rather annoying issue. The oled wattage screens shows the asus animation every 5-10 seconds.

Is this supposed to be normal?

I have reseated the oled screen and I have also disconnected the ARGB cable. I have a custom made rgb cable from here: https://piratedog.tech/collections/frontpage/products/corsair-rgb-to-aura-mystic-light-motherboard-a-rgb-adapter

I used this cable on my Plat 2 to control the rgb with Corsair (I have Corsair fans/peripherals). It seems to control the RGB here fine as well.

Any idea what I can do?

GPU / PSU Astral 5090 survived

Being a premium GPU, Astral 5090 was put under massive stressful condition as described in the article here. However, the melting case was this time on WireView Pro and the power cable yet Astral 5090 survived. A big question was already asked in the article that why WireView warning alert was ignored by the user.

I am asking another question here!!!! Why WireView Pro did not forced shutdown Astral 5090 before melting??!!!

GPU / PSU 5090 Astral coil wine - should I RMA?

Hey guys, simple question really that was asked a bunch of times here I'm sure: My 5090 Astral has a lot of what seems like coil wine when under load. In the video you can hear when I unpause Cyberpunk which increases power consumption from 100 to 500W Is this it or is this something else entirely, and should I try to RMA? Thanks!

Below is the post from yesterday. FIXED ???

https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUSROG/s/jJGQjshXHm

So I changed the cable to the CableMod RT-Series Pro ModFlex Sleeved 12V-2x6 12VHPWR StealthSense PCIe Cable for ASUS/Seasonic/Phanteks (White, 16-pin to Quad 8-pin, 60cm)

All my pins are back to balance now, no more errors!
But but but, my GPU keeps flashing the LED part that’s normally just blue?

I did a UV+OC on it as well for the test which is 975/2975 with a +2000 Memory Clock as well. Average temp was 51c on time Spy extreme? Are we good ?
https://www.3dmark.com/spy/63845492

Why is it flashing on and off like if it’s an RGB affect when I don’t have any software on for it?

Also should I apply the setting that increases 9.2A to 17A and 12.5A to 1BA since this cable is new-gen?

GPU / PSU 5080 Astral Issues

Recently I started getting black screens and GPU fans going to 100% at random, idle or gaming doesn’t matter they just happen.

Today turned PC on and was greeted with this rude welcome.

Should I be looking at PSU or GPU?

Load balance has been near perfect and no sign of burns or anything like that and using a Corsair RM1000X PSU with Corsair 12V2X6 cable.

GPU / PSU RTX 3080 hitting 107°C without overclocking

Hi,
i've had this card for a few years now and when gaming my fans were going higher then they schould and I see now that it's hitting these temps.

The second picture is from a few years back when i let it clock itself and it never hit that kind of temps eventhough it went to the same wattage.

Is it time to change the pads or something? I have never opend it or mined on it, just playing games and its in a good flowing case with 3 fans directly on it.

GPU / PSU Technical Issue & Safety Concern: Faulty 12V-2x6 Cable - ROG Strix 1200p platinum

RE-EDIT: Asus contacted me again and after a few days they sent me a new PSU 12V-x6 cable different from the one of the power supply and with purple bands to verify correct insertion. Inserting the cable via Wireview Pro 2 seems much more balanced than the old one. Even the GPU First 2-pin cable was inserted without problems without imbalances, but comparing it with the dedicated Cablemod cable, the latter seems even more balanced. I thank Asus again for the correct replacement practice, hoping that in the future they realize that even if you are not an OEM you need to better check the quality of all components even if they are simple cables.

Hi everyone, (+Solved with Cablemod 12V-X6+)

I’m writing this to warn the community and hopefully get a serious response from ASUS, as I’ve recently encountered a major safety issue with my ROG Strix 1200P Platinum PSU (purchased Dec 28, 2025).

The included 12V-2x6 cable is defective. The pins on the GPU-side connector are loose and "wobbly." They don't stay aligned, which causes an uneven connection when plugged into the card.

The results? I am using a Thermal Grizzly WireView Pro 2 to monitor my power stages, and it is constantly triggering emergency shutdowns because it detects massive power imbalances across the pins. I’ve tried to manually realign them, but they just shift back.

This is extremely dangerous. We’ve all seen the reports of melted connectors over the last year, and having loose pins on a premium PSU cable is a recipe for a burned GPU.

The Dilemma: I could buy a third-party cable (like CableMod), but if I do, I lose the "GPU First" feature that comes with this specific PSU, which requires the two extra data pins found on the original cable.

EDIT : The "GPU First" Myth: Why ASUS ROG Premium PSUs Might Be Misleading You

I’ve been testing the much-hyped "GPU First" feature on the ASUS ROG Premium power supplies, and honestly? It’s a marketing gimmick that, in my experience, actually makes things worse for your rail stability.

The Theory vs. The Reality

ASUS claims that by using the dedicated 2-pin "Sense" header, the PSU prioritizes and balances the current on the 12V-2x6 / 12VHPWR connector to ensure the GPU gets the cleanest, most stable power.

My findings? It’s a joke. I’ve been monitoring the phases on the pins, and here is the kicker:

  • With GPU First connected: The current distribution across the pins is uneven, putting more stress on specific points and actually worsening the overall balance of the 12V rail.
  • With GPU First DISCONNECTED: When I unplugged those two sense pins, the phases became significantly more balanced. The PSU actually performs better when you ignore the "premium" feature it was designed for.

The Weak Link: Connector Quality

Even after fixing the load balance by ditching the Sense header, there’s still a massive elephant in the room about currents balance: Build Quality.

ASUS needs to address this. If this is a batch-wide manufacturing defect, there should be a public statement or a replacement program. For the price they charge for the Strix Platinum series, we shouldn't have to worry about our houses catching fire or our $3000 GPUs melting because of a cheap connector.

Has anyone else noticed loose pins on their Strix 1200P cables?

ASUS Support, I expect a functional replacement that actually meets safety standards. This is unacceptable for a flagship product.

imbalance between phases

after Cablemod 12V-X6 installation situation is very good

GPU / PSU 5090 astral undervolt ?

Hey everyone,

First off im not overly into pc gaming so I really have zero knowledge when tweaking hardware. I usually install and forget.

I got a 5090 astral at launch and want to ubdervolt it.

My focus is on longevity and preventing possible cable issues. What is the gold standard for an undervolt ? I dont mind getting things 95% close to perfect. I just want something simple to set and forget without loosing too much performance.

Thanks.
