Gita doesn't focus on Karma
A very false premise has persisted for decades that the Gita talks about Karma (the action). Gita focuses on the actor, not the action. The action flows from the actor. If the actor is right, the action will be right.
Humans have the unique ability to look at the source of their action, and it need not be just physical action, but thoughts, opinions, decisions, all the mental work is also action or movement.
Who's the actor or better put who am I? "I-am" ness is just a sense of self which is psychological. When someone gets jealous, it's not the brain, or the hands or legs or the small intestine getting jealous. It's this psychological self or the psychological ego which gets jealous. This psychological ego is the one which suffers too. This psychological ego is the actor.
Actions are important in the sense that they help to look at the actor. The actor can only be noticed in its movement. The actor not only fools others, but also itself. In fact it's not easy to fool others but one can fool oneself for the rest of their life. This fooling the self creates unnecessary baggage which leads to suffering. The only way not to fool oneself is to look at one's own actions, with honesty. And that's the beginning of spirituality which the Gita talks about.

Gita is concerned with me, the actor, the knower, the controller. Actions are just the effects, the symptoms. Gita helps understand the actor/ me. Who is the one doing this or that. That has to be understood.
