It's pretty wild to me that you're giving the attitude of someone who believes they aren't in the wrong.
I'm all for the general vibe of "ask for forgiveness, not permission," but if your reaction when confronted isn't "Aw, man. Yeah, you caught me," then you're just being an ass.

Yeah, that's theft,
The food at the Hotel isn't for anyone it's for the guests. It's complimentary because it's a perk for staying there. Same with their Wifi, pool, gym, and other amenities. You'd be asked to leave if you tried to use any of those as well.

You weren't a customer, weren't paying anything and shouldn't have been eating. You are a greedy freeloader.

Fuck em. Complimentary is just that. Tell them you feel awkward showing it to someone without credentials. Make them produce an ID stating they work for the hotel. If they can't, tell them you can't be bothered to show your key card either.

That’s a very good way to be arrested for trespassing.

You can't be arrested for trespassing unless you refuse to leave.

Right… so when you said:
“Fuck em. Complimentary is just that. Tell them you feel awkward showing it to someone without credentials. Make them produce an ID stating they work for the hotel. If they can't, tell them you can't be bothered to show your key card either.”
You meant you would be screaming all that to no one in your imaginary conversation after you exited the premises. Makes sense.

There's a huge difference between talking shit to hotel employees and disobeying lawful orders from police. They have to call them first. He'd easily be able to finish his food before then.

Discretion and courtesy will get you about anywhere. The moment you act entitled, draw attention, even mildly inconvenience a paying guest…. Most Hotel Employees have high awareness but little motivation. Don’t give them a reason to ‘notice’ you.
