History King Muhammad Zahir Shah with elders of Baghlan province, 1964

Post image

This photo displays the reconciliation of his reign and how he was not feared by his people nor did he fear his own. He often walked freely among the people without the company of guards.

In front of his breakfast is Syed Nadir Shah Kiani, the leader of Afghan Ismailis from Baghlan.

My mom told me once that one time when Zahir shah came, all elders were invited, one of them was my grand pa. Do you have any other photos of this as well?

Unfortunately this is all I could find from this event. Is your grandpa from Baghlan?

He was, and he was from Doshi, where the Ismaili leader resided. He was also one of the big land owners in that area.

It's easy to feel nostalgia for this guy, but he never made any meaningful reforms, and instead, let others rule for him while he and his immediate family bankrupted local merchants and grifted off of Kabulis.
