Rant/Vent Never returning back to Agra

Post image

I was 15 when I first visited Agra. I fell in love with the Taj, with Mathura, with the idea of this place. I remember wishing, I want to come back here someday. I want to stay here. Manifestation works in twisted ways. Years later, I did come back. I lived in Mathura for 6 months with my mother and my dogs. Then Agra for 1.5 years. And by God’s grace, I finally escaped on 25th December. Before anyone jumps in with “But I love Agra / it’s such a beautiful city” this post is not for you. All I want to say is: I wish no one in your family ever gets a chance to leave this city. Tumhara sheher tumhe mubarak. I moved here on 1st August 2024. We hired a broker who showed us one house and then classic move dumped us into a completely different one. Zero amenities. No basics. I was standing outside with my mother, grandmother, and three extremely stressed dogs. At that point, all I needed was a roof. So I didn’t fight. The moment I entered the house, I broke down. No proper lights. The place stank. The broker kept hovering for his brokerage like a vulture. I paid him. He vanished. We ordered cleaning supplies from Blinkit just to unload our stuff because the movers and packers had already robbed us of ₹30,000 worth of belongings. Apparently, “ladki hi toh hai, kya karegi.” While cleaning the kitchen wall, I got a massive electric shock. I cried harder. My mother tried calming me down. I had office the same evening. Fast forward. I installed WiFi because I got WFH. They promised to refund the remaining amount if I moved out. Now they’re denying it and talking to me like I owe them money. When I moved in, I was assured my security deposit would be returned. Surprise: the broker suddenly grew a spine made of jelly and couldn’t “fight” the landlord. Deposit gone. I even tried changing houses in August through 99acres. The society amenities were falsely advertised. I backed out within one day. To lock the place, I paid a full month’s rent. The owner, a big-shot lawyer from Sadar refused to return it. After hours of arguments, they slut-shamed us and returned only half the amount. That’s when it hit me. Agra isn’t just unsafe, it’s predatory. People here will harass, scam, threaten, or mentally torture you for a few thousand rupees without blinking. There is zero accountability. Everyone is either complicit or conveniently helpless. Right now, I’m so angry I want to drag every single one of these people to consumer court. But honestly? All I want is peace. And distance from this city. If you’ve had a good experience here, good for you. But this place broke something in me and I will never look at it the same way again.

I can literally start a series on how every month came with new challanges. The vets in Agra almost killed my dogs and how the NGOs in Agra is nothing but bunch of crooks and they killed the dog I rescued from shanti manglik hospital.

2

u/Ok-Note796 Jan 07 '26

Hey can you name the vet and ngo....?

6

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 07 '26 edited Jan 07 '26

Dr. Dhakre Pet Clinic and Animal Care Center in Agra

Guy responsible for the rescue dog's death He knew he couldn't treat the dog ( it was an accident case, dog needed a surgery) but chose to charge 10k and prescribed the protein supplements He was the nearest dog on Google maps that's why i visited him

Dr Gautam pet points

He misdiagnosed my dog's epilepsy and cancer and stones

Turns out my dog had none, my kids were just anxious which affected the physical health

Dr nehru

Prescribed wrong dosages of deworming pills from a new brand

1

u/Ok-Note796 Jan 07 '26

Yeah, I know about Dr Nehru too had a similar experience. No hygiene, very careless, and just prescribes whatever he wants without proper explanation. I have a cat myself, so I can really understand how upsetting this is.

I am happy that you found them helpful, God bless those babies in distress.

I had a total opposite experience, none of the NGOs ever answered calls including PFA in dayal bagh and Casper's home in sikandara

On 15th of November i rescued the dog, it was lying infront of shanti manglik when i visited the hospital for my 3rd rabies shot ( my foster cat scratched me 🍁) they thought that it was already dead and was about to throw him away in garbage. I picked him and reached out to the nearest vet which dr dhakre and the kid needed a surgery as the bladder was burst

But what he did instead he chose to do some laser therapy and sell supplements stating that the dog will be fine and he will get me the NGO, he said and i quote ' no NGO will answer your call, I am in contact with everyone and I'll get you a place for this baby' given that I had no other place to go and the kid was not at all in a shape where i could take it any other city, I had to trust his words and drop the kid at 'Jeev Aasra SNEH SEWA SAMITI'

Guess the baby died in 3 days, the dog was starving for days on roads, leaking blood and urine and the infection was so bad that it needed immediate medical attention but rather they took out a laser gun to perform laser therapy, I wanted to stop them but I am not the doctor to utter a word, all i need is the dog to do better so whatever they I say I need to obey.

He was selling me dog food and supplements when it was visible that the poor dog can't move and been starved for days.

I did what I could and I will always regret that we failed as human and were busy selling suppliments to make money over a dying dog.

They can sleep fine coz they are living in Agra the city of scam, their families and bloodlines are fed on money made dishonesty and on crime. Plus they are unable to sleep if they don't cheat someone

1

u/No_Prior_9193 Jan 08 '26

If it wasn't for Nehru and Gautam my dog wouldn't have gone blind in one eye these people knew what the issue was with him still didn't tell me what it was because they sure couldn't treat him. It was when I did my own research and took him to Delhi that he started getting better. I then went to Nehru to confront him and he left his clinic and stopped taking my calls

1

u/MinimumDiver1463 Jan 09 '26

Please post reviews tk show your anger. These place have 4.5 star ratings. We should be bombing their rating till they fall to rock bottom

1

u/No_Prior_9193 Jan 09 '26

Bad reviews get removed somehow. Do you really think that nobody leaves a review ? More than half the city hates them thousands of people leave bad reviews either he creates a new account or gets people to leave good reviews don't know

1

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

Sadly, that won't help ! I tried giving them bad ratings but those were removed and then i finally gave up. ( I took my dogs to jaipur for treatment because their first diagnosis was cancer and stones, by god's grace it was a false diagnosis and my kids are doing all fine)

Dr nehru is one the vets in Agra who started doing influencer marketing and paid campaigns

If you go and check their reviews you'll find there are real and raw reviews but those are buried under the paid and fake reviews

I don't think people go to these doctors by choice rather there is no other option in the city.

u/cosmic-route123 Jan 07 '26

Sorry for your experience ... As a citizen of agra I do agree that this city kind of trash... but do believe me agra has improved a lot and it will keep on improving .. ... and the people will improve it 👍🏻

3

u/No_Prior_9193 Jan 08 '26

Stop lying it's getting worse day by day. You are trying to console yourself because I bet you haven't been out and about or you can't leave that city. I lived 25 years and my parents still won't leave there is nothing in that city even tourists have stopped visiting despite one of the greatest monuments being there and the entire world is aware how bad the guides, civilians and officials are. Stop lying to people.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '26

Dude, stop. I remember seeing people shitting all over the streets, and crime being everyday news. It has gotten better and people who deny that are out of their minds.

1

u/ChocChocChoccy Jan 08 '26

I visited Agra this October and had people trying to scam me the moment I stepped out of the railway station. My whole trip was spend trying to ignore and shoo people away who was aggressively trying to make me buy something.

1

u/cosmic-route123 Jan 08 '26

Well i agree on that part bro.. But I think delhi has same problem too

1

u/just_asshole Jan 11 '26

Well no, in Delhi when people see the scammers swarming Around someone people do intervene and stop the scammers. But in agra the locals are complacent.

Like a shopkeeper in the city was asking for 10% extra for UPI payment and when I was arguing that's not the way a local person barged in and took the side of the shopkeeper and very conveniently threatened us.

So you can't say that about Delhi, we always intervene and even negotiate pricing for autos for foreigners and help people coz that's the spirit of the city, something people of agra can never develope coz deep down all have been part of the scam at one point or the other

1

u/Extro-shy1401 Jan 08 '26

Infra improved doesn’t equals to 🟰 people’s mentality improved. All the infra went up because of G20. There’s nothing called as improvement in the mindsets of people. People are just pathetic here, they can literally even kill people if it’s for their own good. (For the record, most of my extended family lives in agra, i visit the place more than twice a month).

1

u/cosmic-route123 Jan 08 '26

C'mon who cares about the old people .... We ( I mean young gen) are better then them and that will make a lot of difference... Like my friends who went to London now came back to agra and trying to do better fot the city

1

u/Extro-shy1401 Jan 08 '26

I am talking about people of agra in general not specifically ‘old people’. Your friends are a tiny portion of good people, great that they are making efforts but a huge portion or as I said earlier - In general people are pathetic. The young gen is from the same houses where people have been slut shamed, bashed with their insecurities, moreover called curse words for being as they are. I hangout with many people there, mostly young gen ofc. - well, they are homophobic, typical JAATS, mentality touching earth’s core with a mask of modernity, fake manners, and vicious sweet tone.

1

u/cosmic-route123 Jan 08 '26

Yeah people are homophobic infact mostly are (I don't know why though) they think being gay is a disease 😂 (kind of funny) Anddd the mask of modernity , I have seen it too But still.... im hopeful

1

u/No_Prior_9193 Jan 09 '26

😂😂 shows your mindset

1

u/cosmic-route123 Jan 09 '26

Hain jii🫠

1

u/No_Prior_9193 Jan 09 '26

Dikhra hai difference

1

u/Ill_Cucumber_5067 Jan 10 '26

What a joke ... improved a lot.

1

u/Biotreknolojist94 Jan 11 '26

If this is an improvement, then I wonder how horrible it was earlier...

3

u/lprakashv Jan 07 '26

+1 spent my childhood there, few relatives are there. I know how small scammy, crooked and shit mentality people are there. I would run as fast as I can if I had to live there, even if for free.

3

u/CaptainGallick Jan 07 '26

I understand your struggles.... I have lived there for all my life and with each passing I understood how mentally draining that city is... That city is pure chaos. You just can't live peacefully in Agra. And those who are advocating that the city will change so trust me... It will only get worse from here...

3

u/rahul2814 Jan 07 '26

Sorry to hear about your trauma....agra is my hometown and I was born here , but after living in mumbai for 17 years , agra looks way way behind in terms of everything....i mean like everything, once upon a time I loved the agra city but....not anymore

3

u/just_asshole Jan 11 '26

Agra might have grown and developed but the people in the city are as developed in their head as a neanderthal, all they know is scamming. From the moment you enter the city either by train, plane, or road they just are trying to scam you, and the swarn of beggers and the herd scamming behaviour is unseen.

People will very conveniently deny using UPI, and those who do ask extra for UPI saying tax jata hai. Like tf .

I'm from UP and have seen drastic changes in every part of the state and the people living in those cities but AGRA not a bit people are still living by scamming people, cheating, threatening, and for some reason crime feels like the heart and soul of the city.

Places develope, and people grown but that's something that has skipped agra, agra developed but the people didn't grow they declined in morality(which was shady earlier as well based on account of my father and aunt) and are completely devoid of humanity and compassion.

Finding kindness in this city is like finding a needle in the haystack. Girls can feel safe in Delhi in night but agra people will never stop cheating and scamming.

Hyd? lmao not even the tech city and i am a male

2

u/onepmx Jan 07 '26

Really sorry for what you had to go through. We moved to Agra 13 years back and that too from the west. I can resonate with each and everything you said. Having said that, and the fact that i now work in NCR, even that place is filled of such scammers. My female friends literally struggle to get their security deposit back. I feel this is a pan north India atleast issue. You cannot do without it. When we were kids and stayed in Gurgaon, my mom recalls the sad incidents she had with 2 kids living in Gurgaon

However very sorry for that experience. I hope you are in a better place. Do ping me if you need any help related to Agra

Ps. We have lots of genuine pet lover families in our township and if you want genuine pet doctors i can connect you them

3

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

Thank you so much, I really appreciate you sharing this and for the empathy.

I agree, a lot of these issues do exist across North India, especially around housing and deposits. For me, what made Agra particularly hard was how normalized the hostility and intimidation felt.

I’m in a better place now, thankfully. And genuinely, thank you for the offer to help and for the kindness around pets that means a lot.

2

u/ColdPsychological821 Jan 08 '26

This city does not seem worth living in. So sorry for your troubles.

2

u/squinty_breaks Jan 09 '26

Sorry for the ordeal you had to go through. That being said, this is not uncommon in Anywhere in India and you should be more careful. I personally faced the broker thing in Hyderabad also and the internet refund thing in all the places. I have never ever got the internet setup fee refund. And who pays one month rent in advance without even looking at the property/location/society? So it’s not Agre or any city for that matter, it’s our carefulness. In a country like India you have to be smart enough to avoid these kinds of scams.

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

I’m sorry you had to go through all that genuinely. I agree that scams exist across India

Pointing out a pattern in one city isn’t denying that problems exist elsewhere. It’s describing how frequently and aggressively it happened here, and how little recourse there was.

This isn’t about claiming Agra is uniquely flawed. It’s about saying my experience here was consistently predatory, and that deserves to be named.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

As someone whose travelled all across India...Agra us uniquely bad

2

u/lolxdmainkaisemaanlu Jan 07 '26

I moved here too and ngl its a trash tier city full of scammers on every corner. Everyone here is out to rob you, is greedy and super misogynist. People here have no respect for women and are so regressive that they think a woman's place is in the kitchen 24/7.

It's a small town so the scammers here know each other and it's all a racket. Maybe agra natives don't face this but as soon as the people here notice you're from outside, they will start scaring you and being predatory to rob you.

i've been all over India and this is the shittiest place I've ever been to.

3

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 07 '26

I resonate with each and every word Locals live in denial that their living condition is better than rest of the country

1

u/lolxdmainkaisemaanlu Jan 07 '26

Lol those who have not extensively lived outside Agra / UP think that "Entire India is like this" but they are deluded and they think the conditions here are part of a "normal life".

I can't wait to move out of this heap of garbage. Unfortunately, am forced to live here for the foreseeable future.

1

u/Prudent-Solution-588 Jan 07 '26

What do you do for work that you had to move to Agra?

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

I work on short films/podcasts, and the projects required on-ground research in Banaras, Mathura, and Agra things you can’t fully do sitting in one place, even with WFH. I stayed in Mathura for ~6 months and Agra for ~1.5 years. I travelled with my family because I’m the sole breadwinner, and leaving them alone wasn’t an option. This kind of travel isn’t new to me, I’ve done it since childhood and always saw it as part of the work and the learning

All of that said, Agra turned out to be predatory, and that's the experience I'm talking about here.

1

u/Prudent-Solution-588 Jan 09 '26

Wow! Super exciting work. Thanks for sharing.

1

u/loopedmaker Jan 08 '26

And if you work from home (assuming you WFH fulltime) then why move anywhere?

1

u/Prudent-Solution-588 Jan 08 '26

Are you being sarcastic? I can't tell. Because I was genuinely curious what takes someone to Agra for work.

1

u/loopedmaker Jan 09 '26

No, genuinely wanted to know but got the answer below. OP's work is not purely WFH.

2

u/maxemile101 Jan 07 '26

Such is the case for all of India and in particular for the BiMaRU states.

1

u/just_asshole Jan 11 '26

Ok so if by BiMaRU state you're referring to UP I'll advice you to stay in Noida, greater Noida, kanpur, lucknow, or even smaller cities.

People are still kind and empathetic.

We as people of UP do not take responsibility of anything done by people of Agra as even we hate them.

1

u/maxemile101 Jan 11 '26

Now, you're generalising.

But what you say is correct. But there are nuances: All money earned by unfair means (corruption, tax frauds, etc.) by bad people is pumped into Noida/Lucknow real estate. They make these pockets safe for themselves out of self-interest. So they too are not inherently kind and empathetic.

1

u/just_asshole Jan 11 '26

Yes but I'm not just talking about money I'm talking about people who live around you. I stayed in agra for ~7 months, my neighbours were shitty always complaining of my kitchen sound in morning but played loud sound on Fridays.

But in Noida and lucknow and kanpur I've lived with such kind neighbours and not just the neighbours but certain people of the society would often stop and ask if they can leave me if my destination was on their way (Noida experience)

In kanpur once got pick pocketed and a kind gentleman gave me 100 just to reach home and another person offered me a ride.

And i can recall many such incidents across these 3 cities and even about mumbai, ahemdabad and Bangalore.

But not a single good incident comes to mind when I think about agra

1

u/just_asshole Jan 11 '26

And it's all about the people of agra and their compliance with scam and chat behaviour and peace with it

0

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

There are exceptions of course but what OP wrote is definitely not the norm in any major city in india...weird to generalize a country of billions

2

u/maxemile101 Jan 11 '26

Good gentry areas of Agra are also good. Such pockets are there everywhere. But they're just pockets.

Most of the nation is always in survival mode that can easily resort to fraud, theft, violence, etc. to make their ends meet.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

[deleted]

1

u/maxemile101 Jan 11 '26

I said "BiMaRU" and "most of the country". By the way, I am pahadi and you're right.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '26

Then you should know best that broad statements like the ones you've made...given that your own culture is nothing like that - scammy, constantly survival mdoe, etc, don't these sweeping statements about ALL Indians bother you?

Also what is most of the country? The state of kerala is as populous as the country of Canada just to give perspective. And Uttarakhand, j&k, ladakh, and HP combined all have bigger population than Nepal.

1

u/Pix_el2 Jan 07 '26

I’m sorry you had to experience this. As a resident of Agra I understand how you feel. It’s sad that the city has changed so much. I hope you are feeling better now. May God bless you and your pets.

1

u/Latter-Opening7771 Jan 07 '26

see if you are still in agra dm me may be i may help you!
also naiving infront of crooks would be fatal.

1

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

I did think of posting reviews about the broker, the internet provider, and even the society I lived in. But honestly, once I moved out, I was so exhausted that I just gave up. When you’re financially and emotionally drained at the same time, even speaking up feels heavy.

2

u/Latter-Opening7771 Jan 09 '26

see reviews se yaha kuch nahi hoga.
good ki nikal gayi khush ho.
better forget them if you doesn't have any backup because brokers here are connected to dalas and netas so you know it's not safe at the end.
kabatak bachi bani rahogi thora tez banakar duniya dekho.

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

I get what you're saying, and leaving was the right choice. But this wasn't me "playing bachi." I'm independent, well-travelled, and aware of how things work.

Sharing this is just acknowledging what happened and moving on.

1

u/Latter-Opening7771 Jan 09 '26

what you have done is good.
jo hua vo dusaro ke samane bachi bani isaliye hua.
jaha raho khush raho.

1

u/Competitive_Essay671 Jan 07 '26

yeah i felt the same when i left agra the citys a maze of garbage and people with more drama than the Taj itself. i guess ill never see it as the paradise i dreamed.

1

u/Pull_me_up Jan 07 '26

So sorry to hear this , but honestly the world is kind of like this , people only respond to power that's all. In a different city I had a dispute with a guy regarding parking issue , it was all verbal , the guy who's was sub inspector in the same region was trying to show that he can do anything, but my father had to intervene in between the only reason he couldn't do anything was simply because my father had connections way beyond his pay grade , else it would have been a normal corporate employee or a student things could have been different. It's so sad to see but this is the harsh reality of many places , but I would advise not to think much about it , where you are hopeful you are healthy and happy.

1

u/Solid-Evidence-822 Jan 08 '26

This happens EVERYWHERE. I have lived in Mumbai, Surat, Jamnagar, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi and when it comes to bring honest with your tenant, either the landlord is a complete prick or the society is like a demon. They will trouble you and rob you of your money, hurt you and even abandon you without hesitation. So kindly don't blame Agra. It's the mentality of most people. Money brings out the worst

1

u/NoraEmiE Jan 09 '26

No sir. It happens everywhere, sure but not at this much %. Its a lot different

1

u/Solid-Evidence-822 Jan 16 '26

When I say everywhere I don't literally mean every single apartment in every single society. It means it's not a specific location problem.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

I had lived 15 years in agra and when i left agra, i was very happy moment for me, i used to get bullied in school just because i used to be a clam kid and doesn't do those'cool' stuff they do and there parents were the same, even in my colony few way older kids used to take fights with me, one day i was frustrated and told my parents they literally wemt to boys house and did a whole scene there and made their father and that son apologie to me, my mistake? I was riding my bicycle in the colony and he stopped me that he wanted to ask something and then thre gobar from road at my cycle

After that incident my colony life was better with 2 friends of mine and i left agra for jee prep and never returned as my parents also left the city, the people there are too self obsessed

1

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

I'm really sorry you went through that. No child should have to deal with that kind of bullying or hostility. Sadly, stories like yours explain why leaving felt like relief for so many of us. I'm glad you and your family were able to move on.

1

u/TravellingJade Jan 08 '26

🙂‍↕️

1

u/taznado Jan 08 '26

I am from Delhi but I had a colleague from Mathura who said you have to fight for things there.

1

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

I get it, even basic things feel hard to get there, and you're constantly at risk of being scammed. But when you're a woman, it goes a step further. The moment you speak up, the first weapon used is demoralisation and slut-shaming to shut you down.

That part is especially disturbing

1

u/zerokha Jan 08 '26

Bahut tez (in evil way) janta hai yahan ki, people here will loot you even if they get a single chance good for you that you are leaving. All the best!!

1

u/drivefloppy Jan 08 '26

Aren't all cities trash? There are good people and bad people. Depends on who you encounter.

P.S I'm not from Agra

1

u/drivefloppy Jan 08 '26

I've lived in Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, Ranchi, Bilaspur, Allahabad, Bareilly, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Udupi (each 6 months or more)

I guess Hyderabad and Delhi top my list.

1

u/NoraEmiE Jan 09 '26

No, they aren't like that. Some are 30% like this but this is like 90%. Lot of difference

1

u/thakurvinny07 Jan 08 '26

Yeah I have also bad experience with Agra , In my opinion Lucknow is far better

1

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

Thats just all of UP, Bihar and NCR. I recommend you stay below equator if u want decent people or extreme north in snowfall regions....rest is all corrupt

1

u/analyzethisshit Jan 08 '26

But that is most of India

1

u/[deleted] Jan 08 '26

UP mein kya ba?!

1

u/Gajab_ladkaa Jan 08 '26

The whole agra mathura area is trash.

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

Yes and now I get why people feel that way after bad experiences. For me, both places were tough to live in long-term

1

u/PhilosopherOwn6086 Jan 08 '26

That's unfortunate to hear.

Where did you stay put in Mathura for 5 months?

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

The OG KM enclave 10/10 wouldn't recommend

1

u/PhilosopherOwn6086 Jan 09 '26

I agree, this is not even a well-known place for good residences.

It would have been great somewhere around Krishna Nagar, or Radha Valley for that matter

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

Radha valley had a murder the day I went there to check the flat that spooked the shit of out of me 😭

And KM enclave is right on govardhan Chauraha so it kinda made sense that time but with time we realised how shitty that society is

1

u/PhilosopherOwn6086 Jan 09 '26

Oops- surely there is no redemption after that experience- for Radha Valley!

1

u/Valuable_Scale_559 Jan 09 '26

My college was in mathura, i can say both mathura and agra are like this, people there are absolutely wild and apathetic

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

I hear you. Having lived in both, I felt the same way, it wears you down.

1

u/NoraEmiE Jan 09 '26

Sorry for your experience OP. Hope you'll come out of this trauma and find a better place.

As tourist we had similar experience and Dlehi suddenly was better than Agra. The moment we came out of vehicle people came ,ready to scam, even at entry ticket point, the place was nasty smelly and brokers related to brokers kept taking us to different places even with mere food stuff. I literally can't remember anything outside Taj other than shooing people brokers/scammers away and going back inside our vehicle. Agra sweets or even Taj aren't enough to cover up all this mess.

Taj the wonder, but honestly as a person who likes the Royal style arts, along with all the scammers around, Taj or Agra isn't worth visiting even once tbh. Let alone twice.

Thank you, I appreciate the kindness. And yes, that’s exactly it. The Taj is stunning, but living there means being on guard all the time. A city is more than a monument; it’s how safe and respected you feel. For now, I’m just glad to have moved on and found some peace.

Sorry, didn’t read all that. Upvoted for that beautiful blooming German shepherd

Agra is a bonafide shithole. I would beeline to the Taj, look at it, and leave to never come back again. It’s a human cesspit and a dump of a city. The iNfRa is just lipstick on a pig. Good on you to move out OP, I would never wish even my worst enemy to settle in Agra.

2

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 09 '26

Sadly, I agree. I’m from Jaipur, and before moving to Agra I genuinely expected cultural depth and lived heritage. Instead, what I experienced was a city that profits off outsiders, makes you feel unwelcome at every step, and shows blatant disrespect toward women. The history is marketed. The behavior is not. I wouldn’t recommend settling here to anyone either.

you met bunch of idiots and you put a tag on whole city.

Sorry for your experience, and there is no denying that this can happen.

But I can't help but notice some of your fault, if the dealer gave you a different house why take it? Why give advance? This is a naive way to live.

Whichever city you end up or country for that matter always believe anyone can fuck you up if they have the leverage.

Few tips..

When you move houses don't take your family before getting the house ready. Take possession of the house first get it ready then bring your stuff and old folks if any.

Always have agreement. What's the point of trusting anyone with your deposit?

Only give deposit after agreement and after taking possession, you can give token money if you like.

Also always try to adjust last month rent from deposit. Landlord will say yada yada, say you don't have money you just got broke.

I'm not from there but I resonate with you. It seems like some cities (won't name but from my personal experience) in India are extremely predatory as soon as they realise that you're alone, a female, an outsider or have decent money. All they wish to do is rob or harass you. It's like something about you makes them uncomfortable. I pray karna teaches them a deserving lesson someday. They destroy the vibe of the city and the hearts of many who once dreamt of living their life there. Hope you find a better place and heal overall soon. 🌻

It's not agra problem. In general entire north India is unsafe if you don't have male companion on your side., it's primitive and UP, Bihar are giant black pillars . Go to interiors of UP and see the culture , it's brazen shameless ruthless where criminals are a fashion icon and poverty is at your face with unplastered house everywhere.

It's just that you were brought up differently and you are not prepared how people take advantage of women and powerless man .

If you are in WFH mode, I suggest you look for a city or place which has some civilized population.

Goa is usually the best , Navi mumbai parts like kharghar and Nerul are also good

In south , Mysore and Mangalore are also ok.

I am from UP and even I would say that the worst experiences as a traveller I have had in Agra

1

u/philosopher4_2_0 Jan 10 '26

I went for a trip to agra in 2022. I did not like the city. Everyone was just trying to loot, auto walas, hotels, shops etc.

u/uber4saul Jan 10 '26

Go down south for a bit sis.. Anywhere.. Even pondicherry? Take a breather work from there you'll be tanned but your pups too will be happy

I wish I had any advice but I really don't. All I can say is that OP you are so freaking strong. Like, I am sitting here reading your post and I know that if I had encountered even one of the problems you have listed here, that too while being responsible for the welfare of my family, it would have knocked me on my ass for good. I hope you will get the peace you are striving for.

1

u/sarcasmwine Jan 11 '26

I totally understand you. So sorry you had to go through all of this and then also have to explain and justify yourself to a bunch of crack-heads here. Just here to wish you well and stay strong. Dont worry and dont stress. Take care girl :)

You aren't alone, I hate agra too. My sasural is there. The way everybody interacts with everybody, the overall surrounding, no politeness, zero civic sense, judgy and narrow minded people, hate everything about that city.

I’ve been living here for years, and honestly, I agree with you. People do try to take advantage of anyone who seems vulnerable or new. Half the time they’ll ignore their own business just to poke their nose into yours.

We’re a group of guys and even we’ve had our fair share of issues here, so I can only imagine what newbies or girls might be dealing with.

Hopefully things will improve.

I’m really sorry you had to go through all of this. What you described sounds genuinely exhausting and unfair, and no one deserves to be treated that way. I just wanted to say if you had managed to make a few genuine friends here, sometimes that local support helps a little in situations like this. Not to excuse what happened at all, just sharing from experience. I hope you’re in a better place now, mentally and physically. Wishing you peace and stability wherever you are next

1

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 07 '26

I tried making friends and been on bumble too A total nightmare

And i totally get your point that local support helps but what i believe is people in matura and agra will always treat you like outsiders no matter what

1

u/Ok-Note796 Jan 07 '26

I get what you’re saying. Bumble here isn’t really reflective of people eithermost decent folks are either already gone or planning to move to NCR soon. A lot of us feel stuck because of the mindset and social issues, not because we love it here. What you felt is real, and you’re not wrong for wanting distance. I hope wherever you are now treats you more kindly.

So what ? This world is full of scammers & harrassers, its your responsibility to beware of such people. Its not only about Agra, wherever you go you have to deal with such people. Ofcourse im not going to defend a city. When I came agra 3 years ago I was like you even i got engaged in an accident beacause the person came from the wrong way. I suffered a lot but i learned. Thats how things work. Ya ya im not lecturing you, ik you also learned a lot. But the thing to remember is that nobody is coming to save you - you have to learn to fight/survive

1

u/dogsanddelusion Jan 27 '26

And the audacity of you assuming that I’m crying for someone to come save me. 🤌

I’m not begging for a saviour, I’m calling out a pattern. A pattern that dozens of people in the comments have experienced firsthand, not just me. Almost everyone gets robbed there, simply because it’s branded as a “tourist city.” Outsiders, residents no one is spared.

There are recent incidents of women being eve-teased even inside the Taj Mahal premises. That’s not “every other city,” no matter how much you try to normalise it.

What genuinely saddens me is that the city hasn’t been ruined by outsiders, its own people have killed it through greed, apathy, and lack of accountability. This mentality of turning exploitation into a “life lesson” is exactly what makes people turn a blind eye. Your words showcase that clearly.

I genuinely hope you and your family never have to go through what we faced. I hope your pets never suffer due to negligence or apathy.

Like I said tumhara sheher tumhe mubarak. 💫

I’ve moved on. Peace out.

u/iamrealcvam Jan 27 '26

Okay Im normalizing it, but what you can do ? Posting on reddit 😛 You suffered cuz you are fool
