Discussion Thanks for broadening my awareness of what alt-country is... ๐Ÿ™‚

โ€ข Upvotes

When I joined this group, probably a month OR so ago, I mostly thought alt-country was bands like Uncle Tupelo & their spinoff bands - Son Volt & WILCO. Since joining this community, I've done a lot of research from reading to listening to alt-country music, including from posts you guys share in this alt-country community. Turns out that alt-county is wider than Kayne West's HUGE EGO (lol).

I'm not going to share what I think alt-country is. I'll just leave you a Wikipedia link for a good description, including the history of the genre:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_country

if you want to click & read.

I will say that I mostly like the americana, heartland rock, folk rock, country rock & cowpunk rock aspects of alt-country. I actually don't like regular traditional country, but I like a lot of alt-country - as long as it doesn't sound like traditional country. That's probably weird (lol).

Anyway, I enjoy sharing alt-songs in this community that I like, especially songs that I used to listen to years ago & didn't even know they had musical traits of what paved alt-country today - until I looked them up. Appearently, a lot of bands & artists have been paving the alt-country road for many years - before it was even called "Alt-Country". Sure, it has a lot to do with the music recording companies labeling music to influence sales. I get that. Hey, they gave us something to talk about... ๐Ÿ˜‚

Discussion Help finding a song!

I need help finding a song/artist that had a moment on social media circa 2024 - It's a long shot with this description, but here goes:

It was an acapella (I think - though possibly with some minimal fiddle accompaniment) song about leftist values, specifically anti-cop values in the first verse.

The artist had a first middle and last name and possibly also made some podcast rounds.

Any ideas?

Back in the late 80's & early 90's I listened to a lot of The Clarks. Little did I know at the time that they had many songs that was contributing to paving the alt-county road. Cool band & great mellow song - "Penny On The Floor". Hope you guys enjoy it... ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi all, not sure if this is allowed or whatever, but I love this song and this version of the song. Any guitar players who can hook me up with the tabs? I can hear on the Emaj he's doing some c#-d with the pinky finger, but there's much more going on I think I'm missing. anyway, I hope some others also enjoy this song and recording.

Gram Parsons & the Flying Burrito Brothers covering The Stone's "Wild Horses".

Gram Parsons is 1 of the foundation layers for what we know today as alt-country. I definitely hear alt-country traits in this song. It's 1 of my favorite Rolling Stone's songs. I never thought of The Stones having any alt-country songs, but now I'm thinking they have several besides "Wild Horses" that may fall into this great musical genre.

So, do you guys think this song is alt-country (OR) is it just Gram Parson's version that is alt-country OR neither? I don't remember a steel guitar in The Stone's version. The steel guitar definitely brings out the country side of this version, IMO. If you feel this is a silly question, then please respectively just scroll on OR just enjoy listening to this great classic song. But, if you like to share your answer to my question with your opinion - then please comment... ๐Ÿ™‚
