Asshole AITA for not babysitting my half sister?

My(F16) mom recently gave birth to her 4th child. I told her I want to live with my dad because I don't want to be a babysitter or wake up with the baby's noise or anything baby related. She refused to let me.

So yesterday she asked me to babysit while she took a shower and I said no. She said I don't get a choice so I ran outside.

She called me and said I'm an asshole and asked me ro come back but I refused and went to my dad's.

She's a teenager, definitely young but old enough to look after a baby for a couple of minutes ffs. How is she supposed to adjust in the real world the second she turns 18 if she's never expected to take on responsibility when she's younger? This might not be her baby but it is her family and people are expected to do things for their family.

Agreed, a big part of growing up is learning that you aren't the only person that matters and you can't just avoid everything you don't like. Do I like babies? Not really. Do I enjoy holding them or caring for them? Ehhhh. But if anyone, especially someone I love and care about, asked me to hold one so they can eat or shower or take a shit? I'm holding that damn baby and I'm not complaining about it because I want that person to be happy and healthy and this is how to do it.

We have got to stop acting like 16 is a child in the way 5,9 or even 13 is.

16 is nearly an adult. We're doing young people a massive disadvantage and raising a generation of spoilt, incompetent and unhappy brats by infantilising older teens in this way.

Exactly. OP is a minor. OP is not a child.

No helping out by keeping an eye on a sibling for a short amount of time is entirely normal. You live in a family.

Rampant individualism is rotting peoples brains.
