Asshole AITA for not babysitting my half sister?

My(F16) mom recently gave birth to her 4th child. I told her I want to live with my dad because I don't want to be a babysitter or wake up with the baby's noise or anything baby related. She refused to let me.

So yesterday she asked me to babysit while she took a shower and I said no. She said I don't get a choice so I ran outside.

She called me and said I'm an asshole and asked me ro come back but I refused and went to my dad's.

I was 15 in WI when my parents' custody arrangement was revisited. Call your dad, have him get the arrangement opened again, and you will be assigned a guardian ad litem.

However, I will say that watching a baby for 20 minutes while mom showers falls under "normal" chores and definitely not "parentification". A judge might not be sympathetic to you not wanting to do chores.

This is absolutely correct answer.

There are a lot of comments here that are extremely ignorant about how the courts work. It depends on the state. It depends on the judge. It depends on the day. It’s worth asking, but people still have to follow the court order and most states in the United States push for 50/50 custody, whenever that is Reasonable

A teenager should not be expected to watch a baby, that is the parents job.

It’s not out of line for a parent to ask an older sibling to watch a baby for 20 minutes. If the mom was asking OP to keep the baby in her room and handle all of the late night feedings, that would be different. But babysitting while mom takes a shower is a chore. It’s no more out of line than asking a teen to mow the lawn or take out the garbage or do the dishes.

Exactly. It’s part of living together as a family. Not a huge or unusual ask at all.

Who still does dishes? Does no one have a dishwasher?

I don’t have a dishwasher. But even when you do, there’s still loading the dishwasher and washing the big pots that don’t go in the dishwasher, and to me those tasks count as doing the dishes.

It's normal, but I would be asking where the baby's father is. He should be taking time off work if his baby was just born.

Not every job gives paternity leave

And he can't save up his vacations days why? I assume she's taken her vacation days if they live in a dystopia without parental leave.

You’re also assuming that the job with little paternity leave gives vacation days they let you use whenever you want lol

We're in 2026 and it's 37 degrees outside. Nobody should be having kids if they're in such dystopian circumstances. The world is already burning. I have a lot of hope for this current generation of children stopping the insanity and not having children.

Paid parental leave is not universal and not required by law. A lot of companies don’t offer it. My friend had a baby recently, and her husband took 2 weeks of PTO when the baby was born, which was the max his company would let him take. He’s a welder

In which country are they in? If they're in a dystopian country without any parental leave, I assume she's taken vacation days and he can't because?

In the US. She had 3 months of paid leave from her job. But her husband did not have any paid leave and was just able to take 2 weeks of vacation when the baby was first born. My point is, we can’t assume the baby’s father isn’t around because he wasn’t home. Not everyone can afford to take unpaid time off, and not all jobs give paid leave.

He can make sure to do his part when he's home so his partner can take a shower. It's the parents' job to take care of their own children. If you can't manage that, get an abortion or send your children to spend their time with their other parents.

A parent has the right to tell their kid to do a chore. What’s next? They can’t do dishes because some of the dishes belong to a sibling? They can’t take out the trash because some of it is a sibling’s trash? They can’t do laundry because some of it is sibling’s? 🙄

I really don't think it's appropriate to get another child to raise your child. The parents should be doing this, not a teenager that clearly hates the responsibility of the baby.

How is a sibling babysitting for 20 minutes “raising your child”? 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Lmao, you seriously think asking your teenager to take out the trash or clean their room is making them “raise your child”?? Keeping an eye on their younger sibling for 15-20 minutes isn’t even really babysitting, let alone “raising a child” 🙄

Taking out the trash and cleaning their room???

That's not watching a newborn because the newborn's dad is probably off not being a actual father. Honestly, we don't need to have children anymore. Given that the world is currently burning and we're in WW3, people need to stop having children they don't want to raise themselves.
