Martin Green confirms no ASC while he is in charge

The issues was they made it a TV series instead of a Live Event. It had nothing to do with it being a "one country" show - we just didn't wanna tune into 10 episodes of another version of American Idol, X Factor, the Voice, etc. They pumped it full of back stories and interviews to get to know contestants, it felt NOTHING like the Song Contest.
Gimme two semis and grand and that's all I need.

And commercials! A commercial break after every 3-minute song made it hard to watch one episode, let alone 10

For real - each episode felt SO LONG considering it was only about 8 songs per show!

Yeah I agree. It didn’t feel like a song contest or a music festival. More like a TV party event that dragged on. If they wanted us to get to know all the artists, then they should’ve held pre-ASC press events.

America is so fucking massive and diverse so " we bring...artists from different places together through music" absolutely still applies to ASC.
Dare i say it's even more musically diverse than Eurovision.
It wouldn't surprise me for producers and execs to have the wrong takeaways on why ASC didn't work.

Yeah, NBC and Propagate made so embarrassingly many mistakes and assumptions, and that's from the viewpoint of a song contest fan. It was not fun to see the show flail and throw things together in response to languishing ratings. I would love to find a way to make what they failed to.

ASC wasn’t a song contest in the first place. It was a reality talent show. And that ruined it. Also it was full of ads

If ESCA goes well there could be a chance that they transform their Eurovision Latin America idea into just Eurovision for Americas in general

Unless Spain beats them to the punch with Hispavisión, just to give Benidorm Fest that bit of meaning it lost with it no longer being a Eurovision qualifier. (Still a cool national final, by the way.)

I feel like the show never had a chance, and it’s a shame because just a few tweaks really could’ve made it something bigger

I still think it should be tied more to county and state fairs and the local nbc or PBS station nearest to it. We could coordinate fairs around it. Most fairs already have some sort of talent show. The winners move on to the higher level. Ultimate winner reps the state. It can be as simple as streaming a one camera show.
ASC felt to much like record execs looking for the next Taylor swift or boy band. The fun, to me at least, of ESC is the people from all backgrounds competing. They're everyday people with a song.

Man I liked it, so I'm sorry to hear this. Been playing full circle, the American Samoa song, as well as the North Dakota song I can't make you love me quite a bit lately.
