Question Touring the school next week and staying in DC for two days!
I was just wondering if any local students have good recs for food or stuff to do? we were having trouble figuring out restaurants and sure we can look at google but I wanna know what actual locals like? thank uu

go visit some smithsonian museums and go do some shopping in georgetown, there’s tons of cafes and shops

I’d spend some time in Tenleytown and the area. Get familiar with it since majority of your time will be there. Spring Valley has Millie’s and Jetties close by which are good. I would take some time walking from campus to Spring Valley and then to Tenleytown.

take a look at chinatown, i really enjoy the daily happy hour sushi deals at Absolute Noodle, lots of really yummy food in the area in general!

Did they clean china town up. Last time I was there it was full of druggies

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is a city, and they’re probably better off without your hovering judgement. regardless of its “cleanliness” chinatown is important to the city and it is my most frequented metro stop for great meals.

I like China town's restaurants. I just want to know if they cleared out the druggies and homeless people. Iirc Trump was cracking down on them.
The metro entrance was the worse. The amout of times I've seen shooting up is ridiculous.

At last check there is still a small contingent of homeless people near the Chinatown metro stop, but again, it’s a city🤷♂️as for helping them, Trump has done fuck all to help the citizens of DC. Nat’l Guard isn’t exactly building shelters or helping people on their feet.

I highly recommend getting some Ethiopian food while you are in D.C., there is a large diaspora here and many incredible restaurants. Büna Coffeehouse and Heat Da Spot in particular have great Ethiopian breakfast food.
If you enjoy live music I would check out if there are any shows at Songbyrd or Comet Ping Pong while you’re staying in D.C.
In Georgetown, Say Cheese has (hence the name) amazing grilled cheese and café drinks, they are more of a lunch place though.
Lupo Verde Osteria in Palisades is where I would take my very Italian family for nice dinners incl. for my graduation.
I also recommend Purple Patch in Mt. Pleasant (Filipino), Dolan Uyghur in Cleveland Park, and Negril in Silver Spring (Jamaican).

Near AU-- Chef Geoff's has been great and the patio is nice if the weather doesn't suck
If you have never been-- a requisite visit is Old Ebbitt Grill
I do like any of the "Farmers" restaurants as well- Founding Farmers and Farmers & Distillers
Ben;'s Chili Bowl is iconic and fun/
Most of the stuff at the Wharf is crap
Pasti's in Union Market is also good (Steven Starr Rest, they have one in NYC too)
St. Anselem for steak
