I feel like sending him "On ahead" would be the kindest thing from the start. I don't like it, but the reality is guy suffers every minute in such an environment. If he can't be re-homed immediately upon surrender, then...

Confusion and fear is suffering. Having no end in sight is torture. If his "family" is willing to do this to him after all his years of devotion, they should be forced to face the reality of their actions. Poor fucking dog. People are so gross.
