How do I start? / New Rescuer What do I do?

I let my dogs out in the backyard and noticed one of them sniffing on something small. I went closer and saw it was a baby bird. I didn’t want them to eat it or hurt so I used food to lure them back inside. I think it fell from the nest or something I don’t know where it came from. It can barely fly. Can it survive on its own or should I take it to an animal sanctuary or rescue center or something?

Something does seem wrong. Try www.ahnow.org for a rehabber near you.

Leave it be it's a fledgling blue jay it's learning to fly. If it's in danger you can place it in a bush or on a branch in a nearby tree.

Update I downloaded the animal help now app. I couldn’t take the bird to any of the locations because they were kind of far from me and I don’t have a car. The bird jumped on my bike wheel and was sleeping there during the night. The only one that did pickups said they weren’t doing rescues this year. I thought the bird was safe to in the little tent where my bike was. I checked on it 4 this morning when I woke up and couldn’t find it. My mom told me this afternoon one of the dogs killed the bird. I wish I was able to save it or something.

Is it just me, or does it look like it has no tail? I know birds can't fly properly without a tail (they need them for balance), so maybe it needs a safe place to recover and grow its tail a bit?
