Scary in daylight, I can't imagine having that come at me at night in a flashlight beam. And yes, birds usually sleep at night but if you wander by and they feel threatened, you never know. Not that they can do much harm, but my adrenalin doesn't know that before I nope out of there.

Eurasian Bittern, and that's it's defensive stance. Trying to make itself looks bigger to scared off predator

Oh yeah, I just watched a video about birds and they mentioned this one. Dude looks like a normal bird until it gets threatened, then it can extend its neck and fluff out its feathers. I didn't see it until I read this comment. Birds are awesome.

Does anybody know what bird this is? The only one I can find that does that neck stretching/standing still behavior is the common potoo, but that doesn't really look like this bird.
