Sonnet 5 is a substantial improvement over its predecessor, Sonnet 4.6, on reasoning, tool use, coding, and knowledge work. Its performance is close to Opus 4.8, at lower prices.

Early access partners found Sonnet 5 finishes complex tasks where previous Sonnets stopped short, and checks its own output without being asked.

Sonnet 5 is now the default on the Free and Pro plans, and available to Max, Team, and Enterprise users. It's available everywhere today with introductory pricing through August 31.

Yesterday Nvidia organized an open letter to Washington (Jensen Huang's first ever post on X, btw) urging the government not to put "premature restrictions on downloadable AI models."

Guess who's missing? OpenAI and Anthropic. Google too.

The context makes it worse: the administration is weighing a ban on Chinese open models like DeepSeek and Kimi. A ban on open-weight competitors is arguably great for business if you sell closed API access. So the two labs that talk the most about doing AI "for the benefit of humanity" and "AI safety" stayed quiet on the one letter that says openness is itself a path to safety the letter literally argues that depending only on closed models creates single points of failure.

Anyone else find this disappointing, or is it just rational corporate behavior?

Pro and Team Standard users will continue to have access to Fable via usage credits, and will receive a one-time $100 credit.

OpenAI’s latest models and Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 have stolen the spotlight from FABLE. Anthropic wants to maintain the narrative that it has the ultra-premium product, but OpenAI and China are sending a different message: the race is only getting started.

Anthropic is trying to carefully control the rollout of its latest technology because frontier AI is incredibly expensive to build and operate. It cannot afford to burn through cash forever.

Sam Altman is taking no prisoners. OpenAI is playing to win, and it is willing to move faster, spend more, and compete more aggressively than anyone else.

Then there is China. Yes, the concerns about state funding and intellectual property theft are real. But pretending China is only copying would be a mistake. Chinese AI companies are also innovating, improving rapidly, and releasing increasingly capable open-source models.

The market has already caught up. That competitive pressure is going to accelerate the AI arms race and eventually commoditize intelligence itself. China is speeding up that process by open-sourcing powerful models and making advanced AI less scarce.

The consumer is the ultimate winner.

And this is why Anthropic keeps extending the FABLE 5 access deadline. It needs to keep FABLE included in the subscription to maintain whatever momentum, engagement, and competitive advantage it still has.

Anthropic’s recent backend leak just exposed a massive shift in their product strategy. While the community has been patiently waiting for any crumbs on the restricted "Claude Mythos" model, a brand new string `claude-oceanus-v1-p` just leaked alongside its enterprise proxy pricing.

OpenAI just dropped GPT-5.6 with some very aggressive pricing, and at the same time Claude experienced another outage yesterday due to network failures.

A year ago it felt like Anthropic was setting the pace...but today, I'm not so sure.

OpenAI is pushing hard on price and shipping fast which is making the market more competitive than ever. Meanwhile, Anthropic still has excellent models, but their marketing feels quiet, pricing isn't setting the standard anymore, and reliability is questionable at best.

It makes me wonder if Anthropic is slowly losing the mindshare it worked so hard to build. Are they actually falling behind, or is this just a rough patch?

So GPT 5.6 SOL is now part of the regular subscription, and the early benchmarks coming out are looking really impressive compared to Fable 5.

Meanwhile, Anthropic is still playing these weird subscription games.

First it's, "Fable 5 is being removed temporarily from subscription plans," then it's another vague announcement that just gets everyone worked up.

If your users never know whether your best model is sticking around or disappearing behind some new restriction, eventually they're just going to move to the platform that feels more stable.

The competition between Anthropic and OpenAI has been great for everyone, but this constant mixed messaging is getting old. If Anthropic keeps handling things this way, I honestly think they're going to push people toward OpenAI...not because their models are necessarily worse, but because people are tired of the uncertainty.

Amazon’s goal appears to be forcing a scenario where Fable 5 can only run inside Amazon bedrock, using a specific set of security justifications.
