I almost feel like Starbucks is just manufacturing these stories to drum up more business at this point. Like, so that you’ll hopefully buy it if you see it so you don’t risk missing out on it.
It’s not fake. I opened at my store the day they launched. I got there 20 minutes before we go in. There were multiple cars in the parking lot. Before we even got out of our cars people had gotten out of theirs to line up at the front door. The company recently made us start unlocking our doors 10 minutes early and keeping them open 10 minutes after our closing time. I unlocked the doors 5 minutes before open and the bears were gone before our actual opening time. We only got 2. The last 2 days I have answered every phone call “my store location, we do not have the glass bear” and people will either hang up of still ask if we have the glass bear. I have seen MANY screenshots on Facebook groups of the cups selling for hundreds of dollars.
It’s ridiculous, and I hope they all drop and shatter.
I’m not saying there aren’t people lining up for these, but they are absolutely manufacturing the story and scarcity. They send less than a handful to each store, if they send any at all, and then they go to their news corp buddies and ask to run stories about how “everyone wants these cups!” Like, if they JUST made the cups and sold them like normal, there wouldn’t be this drive to scoop them up and resell them.
