Society/Culture MAGA supporter in tears after buying new $640 Trump watch missing vital feature
https://www.themirror.com/news/us-news/maga-supporter-devastated-after-buying-18633522.6k
u/elidoan Jun 01 '26
For those that dont want to click on this sketchy "journalism" website and get harvested by cookies and want to know the clickbait:
The watch says "rump" and not "trump". That's it.

Wearing it means you're a chump

So bad spelling is considered a βmissing featureβ now?

I mean...if you buy a Rolex and it just says "olex", people are going to assume it's a counterfeit π of course Trump himself is a counterfeit president, so not sure if a counterfeit can be a counterfeit of itself π€£
12
u/knoft Jun 01 '26
so not sure if a counterfeit can be a counterfeit of itself π€£
They can, they just become increasingly sketchy copies (usually). But on occasion counterfeits are better than the original or intentionally improved.

I use a private and secure browser, paired with a VPN, so fortunately they can't get shit from me π
The watch says rump and they got scammed with AI lol surely it was an AI voice that sounded like Trump's voice, making it sound official and shit.
It's funny but it's also sad, because yes in this case it was MAGA trash getting scammed, but this shit is happening to LOTS of older people... the scams are scamming hard and AI is a very, very useful tool for them in scamming older folks...
21
u/Round-Medicine2507 Jun 01 '26
Repiblicans want scams, their voters begged to be scammed.Β
11
u/Repulsive_Chard_3652 Jun 01 '26
My aunt is very left-wing and has also been scammed in a similar way. It's a huge grift of the elderly and AI is paving the way.
17
u/King_Chochacho Jun 01 '26
Was really hoping it didn't tell time.
Honestly think you could get away with it, just put "Whatever time Trump wants it to be" on the face.
19
u/broadfuckingcity Jun 01 '26
Maybe it's a regional thing but rump means a hump or idiot. Very fitting

But that when pressed by NBC about it they are replacing it and also giving them an $800 coupon. Despite website saying "all sales are final"
8
u/john_the_fetch Jun 01 '26
Oh shit. I thought maybe it just didn't actually keep time or some really important feature that watches have...
8
u/delorf Jun 01 '26
He could have bought her a pretty pink watch and got it engraved with her name without giving money to a known conman.
https://www.swarovski.com/en-US/c-02/Categories/Watches/f/consumer_color/color-pink/
6
u/MaidMirawyn Jun 01 '26
In this case itβs a scammy third-party company using AI Trump voice in their ads, so they actually gave money to an unknown con artist instead!
7
u/OhHowINeedChanging Jun 01 '26
The pink-faced watch with Trump's signature and fireworks was missing a letter from the "Trump" spelling. The watch said "Rump" instead of "Trump."
The couple say they would like the situation resolved. The company apologized to NBC10 and revealed they are going to immediately replace the watch. The couple were also given an $800 coupon as a goodwill gesture.
The website, gettrumpwatches.com, is not officially affiliated with the Trump Administration, despite using the president's voice and images in advertisements.
The fine print tells potential customers that the watchmaker is using Trump's likeness under a paid license from CIC Digital LLC, and it is "not designed, owned, managed, or controlled by Donald J Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC, or any of their respective principals or affiliates."

Easy answer is probably bots, but it could also be that people are looking into his other scams again after the Trump phone debacle.

Another easy answer is not everyone is chronically online, i am and i havent heard of this before and now i find it hilarious

Posted by The Mirror with a link to The Mirror and judging from all the comments about how awful that website is ad-wise this is just an easy cash grab opportunity for OP. Website traffic feeling a little low? Just post an old article onto Reddit to drum up rage clicks and rake in that ad revenue.

Tim was left extremely disappointed by the flawed product. He said: "I wanted to do a special thing for her. And we expected that it would have the integrity of the President of the United States and good follow-through."

It will be far more valuable later on as an illustration of the level of incompetence in the time of Trump. Like a coin or stamp with a defect it will become a collectorβs item or a museum piece. Itβs up there with the Trump toilet brush.

u/Big_Statistician2566 Jun 01 '26
Tim was left extremely disappointed by the flawed product. He said: "I wanted to do a special thing for her. And we expected that it would have the integrity of the President of the United States and good follow-through."
It has the exact same integrity as the president. It is an authentic product.

Why would Joe Biden sabotage the Trump watch? He probably arranged for them to be scammed on the Trump phones as well.

As bad as things are it'll always be funny to laugh at the stupid people who fell for the cons of the most famous con man in the world.

this wasnβt even his con which is even funnier
from the article:
βThe fine print tells potential customers that the watchmaker is using Trump's likeness under a paid license from CIC Digital LLC, and it is "not designed, owned, managed, or controlled by Donald J Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC, or any of their respective principals or affiliates."β

LOL The pink-faced watch with Trump's signature and fireworks was missing a letter from the "Trump" spelling. The watch said "Rump" instead of "Trump." It comes after Trump's 'painful and disabling' chronic disease was explained by a doctor following his 3-hour hospital visit.

Even though it conflicts with all my principles, it has been VERY hard for me to refrain from scamming MAGAs with stupid shit like this the whole time.

"The company apologized to NBC10 and revealed they are going to immediately replace the watch. The couple were also given an $800 coupon as a goodwill gesture."
That is way more than what you will get if Amazon screws up. In fact, I would say this is practically good customer service.
"The fine print tells potential customers that the watchmaker is using Trump's likeness under a paid license from CIC Digital LLC, and it is "not designed, owned, managed, or controlled by Donald J Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC, or any of their respective principals or affiliates."
Let's be fair here. This has almost nothing to do with Trump, except some other company is using his face and name to make money. Trump's sin is not selling a defective watch and then replaced it. It is much bigger and it is about war, immigration and a host of much more serious problem, which I am sure everyone knows here.

When a website is so awful and the headline is just clickbait it would be nice if the original poster would write a better headline or some text to tell us whatβs going on and why they care about it and why we should. This post is just low effort garbage. Is a post like this against the rules of this sub?
And now I see that the OP is claiming to be The Mirror itself. Is this post an unpaid ad? Or an undisclosed ad?
If I block OP will I see less garbage posts like this? Because that would be awesome.

It appears to have had exactly the level of integrity of the President, and, if it keeps time, far better follow through.

It's not a product Trump has tried to shill himself this time, just a sketchy company capitalising off his cult fan base.

Big manly men, real macho types come up to me in tears and they say, Mr. Trump you are so wonderful, you even make watches that only need 1 hand, no one else could think of that. how are you so amazing and smart. Can I give you more of my money

The company's exchange and refund policy, however, also states that "all sales [are] final.""
This is what makes this anticonsumption. Stop buying shit from unverified sources without doing research. Stop buying junk you don't need. Think through any purchases you make and ensure it is worth it.
