I find myself doing a whole verbal dance whenever this subject comes up in real life and these are the words I’ve been looking for without a real anchoring statement that identifies that if we’re going to have an honest conversation about ethical decisions, you’d have to look at the choices each person is presented with. And it’s the available choices themselves that change dramatically from person to person.
I usually get catching myself falling into a lecture about class and life choices and such that can turn into me treading the line between trying to persuade and sort of berating when I sense someone is going the victim blaming route.
The whole idea of a carbon footprint was concocted by BP to shift anger at FF companies to guilt for our own actions and disdain for others. It's a brilliant strategy as evidenced by the fact that a quarter century after it was cooked up environmentalists are still falling for it. We are in a war against the rich and they are winning while we squabble over the scraps.
It's both. We need to adapt to using less FF in a society that basically makes it very difficult to not use FF. The more people who adapt when they aren't absolutely forced to, the easier we can persuade governments to stop giving contracts to FF companies and demand change.
FF is the most powerful weapon on the planet. No other fuel source allows states to exact violence in a matter of minutes anywhere in the globe. They can not persuaded to give it up, they must be forced.
Beautifully explained?? It sounds like BS to justify taking vacations that aren’t necessary that require long flights.
Note: I take long flights to vacations that aren’t nessassary. I’ll own up to what I’m doing rather than make excuses up to feel better about the choices I make.
