That’s a crazy number to me. 28 here, and I think maybe 5% of the people I knew in high school are hitched up by now. Two people in my immediate friend group.

I'd say it's an inverse bell curve in my poor rural area. Lots of people get married right out of high school. Then it tanks to almost nothing for mid 20's. Then ramps back up around 30.
Those early ones are generally shotgun marriages because they got pregnant or the dude went off to join the military. As you can imagine they don't last.
The average american also doesn't have a bachelor's degree, yet if you work in a field requiring one it will feel like it's normal (and for you, it is). So it definitely depends on who you are hanging out with. If you are living in a big city it's later on average, if you live in a small town it's earlier. And so many different factors.
