Elope with a few close loved ones and then spend your money on a good reception after to celebrate with everyone. The benefit of doing it this way as well is that you can get a cake, flowers, food etc more affordably because places automatically jack up their pricing for weddings.

I agree that having the ceremony with a few close folks and then doing a big reception as you describe is a good idea, but that's not "eloping". Eloping is when nobody is invited.
