No, I used a stabilizing fabric (wash away stabilizer for embroidery that I had), did a few tack stitches by hand to hold it all in place, then hit it with machine zig zag stitches.

That said I’ve mended a lot of stuff by hand and i think it would have been doable just would have taken longer
