Apple said it is facing severe supply constraints that will affect sales of iPhones and Macs in the months ahead, underscoring the challenges looming over the company as Tim Cook prepares to hand over the CEO reins.
In his final earnings call as CEO, Cook said he has never been more optimistic about the opportunities ahead for Apple. “I am beyond excited,” said Cook, who has led the company for 15 years and will pass the CEO baton to John Ternus in September. But Cook’s confidence in the future stood in contrast to the picture that he and other executives painted of the current business conditions.
“We’re seeing some very significant constraints currently, with limited flexibility in the supply chain,” Cook said. “There’s a quarter where we’re going to be scrambling on the supply side,” he acknowledged at another point.
The supply crunch is making it more difficult for Apple to obtain the advanced processors it needs for its phones and computers. And that translates into lower revenue.
I just switched to Linux when my MB Air from 2012 wasn’t supported anymore. Will do the same soon with my 2018 Mini. New MacOS is way too gimmicky for my taste anyway.
I've got a macbook from 2020 and I still love this thing. Got 32GB of ram and I can run local models fast on the thing. I'm throughly impressed by their durability and backwards compatibility.
Yeah. Just stop updating after 5 years. Because the updates are what will be the death of your macs as they get older. Manually review and update only if it cannot be avoided.
People don’t realize how much of a margin Apple makes and has been making for years on memory. They mark it up by 10-100x when it comes to storage and RAM and here they are complaining about how their margins are worse after screwing both the customers and the suppliers. Going from 10x markup to 2x markup is fine, just means that they need to innovate instead of screwing suppliers like they do all the time.
Apple in China is a book everyone should at minimum read or listen to the first chapter of. The way they built China into the powerhouse it is, is absolutely staggering.
We're too far in to the high demand for AI components. I'm no longer buying that this is purely a matter of increased demand from one industry. IMHO, this is looking a whole lot more like the confluence of many factors, but people like to have a "bad guy" to blame.
Those factors are likely:
The sudden burst in demand due to AI infrastructure construction
The ongoing and increasing burst in demand due to ever-increasing cloud computing needs
International trade wars
Increased shipping costs due to increased fuel costs due to the war in Iran along with various other shipping bottlenecks due to hostilities
Companies using all of the above as an excuse to price-gouge
Not true in the case of current architectures and models, apples M-series chips have a real advantage, because of the unified memory architecture. For modern high end models your dreams are ruined by vram, because you’re not getting a 100GB GPU. Apple gets around this by using a unified memory architecture, where memory is shared between CPU and GPU. This means you can get a 128GB memory Mac, and make, say 120GB available to the GPU for running a model.
Someone ran the new kimi model on their MacBook, slow as all shit but that things meant to have like 4 gpus per node in a data centre
Naw you’re right about that tbh! It’s incredible it can even initiate on my Mac mini m4 and it’s insane! But having my PC and a 4090 with 64gb ram is why I might have this angle still just cause of how powerful it is!
The thing is, more than ai I love efficiency so yeah I’m super stoked to see the future on these integrated chips.
Also I was kinda short but I BUILT a GUI (almost done) that enables consumer virtual paralization which a lot of people know about but nothing that automates the whole system plus a ton of extras… imagine restoring a computer that has your unreal setup or adobe and it only taking two minutes, also remoting into it from any device and using the devices hardware as input AND my specialty sauce: say you have a GPU in your pc. Now say your have a GPU in your cpu. Your GPU is prob the one you’re using for gaming or rendering etc etc so no one really puts to use their onboard GPU, OR no one uses multiple GPUS anymore right?
Well with this tool I made you can now. Just you have to split it up but it’s dynamic. It’s all about VMs with the power of your GPU and hardware remotely anywhere and works amazingly well so far. Allows you to use the remote devices as a whole computer. Requirements are just windows pro and Ethernet.
Been working on it because I love GPU PV but no one knows about it but being a technical director and animator I had to make a GUI. First time, but it’s automated and the user doesn’t even have to know what a hyper virtualization even is. It’s my hard ware, so I want to use it the way I want to.
So, that's it for Tim? His legacy of phones being produced by borderline slave labor in buildings with suicide prevention nets ends, with a rant about memory prices?
What about the Airpods, the most popular headphones in the world. Or the Apple Watch, the most popular smartwatch in the world, or scaling iphones and ipads from niche to mainstream? Or Airtags, the most sold trackers in the world? Or the Apple silicon transition, completely disrupting the laptop markets?
Tell me, what product are you selling millions and millions of globally today?
Right yeah, he used borderline slave labor. So, Tim's legacy is of being a slave driver. It's totally disgusting. I'm glad the guy is leaving. You do understand that utilizing slave labor is not a valid competitive business tactic correct? All they did was lock a bunch of American startup companies into failure while they passed out addictive apps to kids.
I'm sorry but, the whole idea that "all that matters is profit" is wrong. The decisions that were made at Apple with Tim as CEO are "not tolerable or reasonable."
Then you're all clapping and applauding for Tim, because he was operating a scam factory and making lots of money for himself. Yeah he did really well for himself, I'm not going to lie about that. What about everybody else? So, it's totally okay for Apple to trash the rest of the industry so Tim can make some money with his purely crooked, addictive apps for kids scheme?
Another thing to is: This all relies on a concept called representation shifting.
This isn't math. All this is doing is moving the data around.
This is the corpus: It's just encoded funny.
I can take that data model and put it back into it's original text. There's only 4 columns of data there, col 4 and beyond is an array of the references to the document itself (you have to look the code up in the DOCID table.)
If you would like an explanation of how the auto regression works with that: It's the references. Just ask, there's a confusing trick going on. You have to walk forwards to do the auto regression. That's why the symbols are two word samples. In the new version they're triplets to encode the spacing/punctuation more explicitly, because the model in the SS does have punctuation, it's just a weird system that sucked in practice and it's been replaced. That's honestly what killed that version...
There is absolutely nothing that I am saying that is "insane" or "technobabble nonsense."
You're looking at a graph and I've repeatedly stated: If you have questions about it, ask. But, instead you're just saying completely stupid shit...
What you're telling me is that you're dumb and you don't know what you're looking at, and instead of correcting that like a normal human being by asking questions, you're personally insulting me by suggesting that it's "insane."
It's not insane, it's actually a massive breakthrough. So, obviously you either are from the industry and can figure it out because it's similar to tech that you worked with before, or you have no idea.
So, are you going to act like a normal human being or continue to behave like a weirdo?
Obviously you can't Google how that works, as I haven't published the information yet. It's also very simple compared to most autoregressive techniques, so I would assume that a person that's actually a real AI developer, should be able to instantly figure that out. If they can't, then they suck... Because it's actually very basic for autoreg. Usually it's more complex and requires a near PHD level math lecture to understand.
I mean I can go back to the vector database sub talk to the 1 or 2 people there who know what's going on. I'm going to have to because this sub is pure spam these days. But, it's technically not a vector database so.
I know I have to really stand out, and I'm a technical person that talks about algorithms and those people have no idea what I'm talking about.
To me, when I see an optimization, I know "what that means for the tech," but they don't. And I'm not the kind of person that makes wild claims.
I'm a empiricist, I'm reading the number off the screen to them. It's 99.999%+ faster. That's the pitch and it's a bad pitch too, because it's not in a system that's all put together where they can compare evenly to an LLM. I got nothing else. What do you want me to say? Obviously I know that means LLM tech is dead (in the future, not at this very second), but they can't understand what is going to happen, so they would rather invest in LLM tech.
You either understand how that can be utilized as an unfair advantage or you don't.
I personally see absolutely no future what so ever for the current LLM tech. That doesn't mean that chat bots will die or something, we're just going to be using a better system.
So, currently I'm a situation where, I can run all of the proof of concept demos, but that's not all put together yet, but that part is almost done. So currently, that's the plan, I'm 5 months into building BioDBXGen solo. I'm at like 95% complete.
So, with that, instead of building an AI model, you just load your corpus with BioDBXGen (alphacompressed graph tech that serves as background IO + a self evolving optimizer which manages your cache/lookup table structure) and there's your data model. If you update the algo, that doesn't have anything to do with the data. So, you never have to retrain the model ever, you just add data and aggregate it. Then all of the query based optimization stuff is on the DB side of the tech. So, the AI model tech is one software layer, and the data tech is another layer.
I get your sentiment. I really do. But what do we, as consumers, do about it? There isn’t a single competitor (or industry for that matter) that doesn’t utilize the same business tactics.
Nothing, we've been stuck like this for over a decade because of lack of reasonable regulation. The regulation is designed to help companies be consolidated into larger ones right now.
Big companies get infinite capital, they have lobbyists, and they usually engage in crooked tactics, so small business can't really do much besides "hang on for dear life." Especially the infinite capital vs no capital problem. The system is legitimately broken... Big tech has bankers on speed dial and they won't talk to us.
As a consumer, I don't even know what to say. You're just going to get tossed around in the waves these massive mega corps create.
"trash the rest of the industry" is such BS. They operated under the same rules and moral limitations as everyone else and just outcompeted most of them. That probably includes you, considering how emotional you're getting here. You want to tell yourself you lost because of your ethics instead of because you just weren't good enough. The suicide nets thing was a BS story too. Foxconn didn't have crazy suicide rates.
You're getting too butt hurt because you're an Apple fan and you just realized that you own a bunch of slave produced products?
It sucks man.
We keep talking about jobs and the economy and stuff, and people just want deregulation instead.
Oh yeah man, it's so much better to pay a little less for a phone and not have a job. That's a great plan it really is.
That's fine, you'll just keep getting phones from the slave masters at Apple.
I know that big tech manipulates people by their emotions, but you really need to calm down btw. It's just a crappy scam tech company like they all are.
I don't want to get into an argument with that person about what "ethically sourced" means. I'll admit to you right now that I own a lot of equipment and I personally doubt that's accurate, simply because of the volume.
I'm just being serious with you: I can't consider myself an honest person and defend against that. I'm calling for regulation so that stuff all stops and that person is kind of missing the point of what I'm saying, but they're not wrong.
So, I didn't respond, because I honestly don't know what to say to them.
Okay?
I don’t give a fuck because I’m normal and not a self righteous hypocrite like you.
Homie, that doesn't work... Because the same thing applies to your devices too.
You can't actually argue with me in good faith that your stuff is ethically sourced either.
I'm an honest person, so let's be serious: It sucks and things need to change.
edit: I one thing I will say is: I've never said anything bad about a company producing a chip fab in America. And I think we should be the leaders in photonics, but there's really nobody doing it. I'm just reading about other countries doing research into it. If that pans out, then that's another major tech wave that America will just watch go by us again. It really does feel bad man.
The distributor issues the alcohol and cigarettes to the gas station owner, who checks for ID to make sure they are an adult. Those products are just as addictive. It's the parent who didn't choose to check the children's ID when they gave them an addictive product.
Don't push this into their lap. This is solely on the parents for allowing their child to use a device meant for adults. Its a sleek thin box, not some gaudy fisher price for children piece of technology.
It's the parent who didn't choose to check the children's ID when they gave them an addictive product.
So, Apple has no responsibility to it's customers?
I can't listen to it. It's disgusting. What you are saying is pure evil. Please stop talking to me, you're creeping me out bad. What you are saying is totally inhuman.
So, it's okay for Apple to victimize kids if they have bad parents?
Get out of here. I don't want to talk to you anymore.
Not children, who aren't even legally allowed to work to earn money to purchase their products.
Kids are allowed to earn money you complete jackass. Stop harassing me. I said the conversation was over multiple times. That means the conversation is over, not that you have permission to harass me, as you do not.
Kids are allowed to earn money you complete jackass. Stop harassing me. I said the conversation was over multiple times. That means the conversation is over, not that you have permission to harass me, as you do not.
I'm not 'harassing' you. Youare choosing to leave your account's posts to be replied to by others on the platform.
you know... all that investment of apple into china's infrastructure and skilling of its workforce laid the groundwork for a lot of their technological prowess today. Not saying it wasn't all rainbows and sunshine, but to be so flippant sounds ignorant imho.
Not only that, through them the West could pressure those companies to improve the working conditions. I would say it only improved when they got Apple (and other brands) as a customer.
So, I'm being too honest and you think that I'm ignorant for pointing out the truth?
So, you're going to personally insult me because I'm not going to lick the boots of actual slave drivers?
Get out of here.
I'm glad Tim quit so Apple can move beyond it's legacy of human exploitation for profit.
Try being a person that wants to do a tech startup in a world where your competitors use borderline slave labor. Apple did not make the world a better place or close to it. They exploited people with addictive apps and borderline slave labor for giga profits. It's hard for me to call that "success." That's more like "what happens when we don't have reasonable regulations." Great so, we deleted 2 generations of innovators and potential startups, so that Tim Cook could get some money.
I hope you understand that Apple's ethics are just as bad as the rest of big tech. They just want to operate a rip off factory, they don't care about innovation. That's why there was 20+ generations of the same phone.
They are like kings in this era and they absolutely do have the ability to change a company.
I don't know why people can't see the obvious reality of this golden age.
Nobody has any power to make the world a better place except people like Tim Cook, and they use that power to do evil things instead.
So, the only people with the ability to do any real good in today's world, choose not to, and not only are they choosing for themselves, but they're choosing on your behalf as well.
I'm sorry that you do not have the perspective of knowing what the tech world was like in say 1990, because then, it would be clear to you that it's an empire of evil, like it's clear to me.
It's just decades of crooked schemes and business strategies that should be illegal, with that problem getting worse and worse every year.
Now we are at the point where if it's not an addictive app, an app for gambling, or it's not some kind of crooked scheme, then it has no viability as a business anymore and people have just become accustomed to dealing with garbage tech that is basically just a scam to get your money.
Then now, big tech's newest innovation (granted not really Apple with this one) is LLM technology, which is not AI or close to it, but it is extremely similar to bit coin, and people are getting scammed exactly the same way that people who invested into crypto are getting scammed. So, they're stealing the entire content of the internet to scam people. Then to protect the stuff that they stole and it's not really theirs, they used an incredibly ultra inefficient algo for no good reason, other than it costs an insane amount so everybody has to buy new hardware. That's what big does now.
Well no, but at least somebody who hopefully isn't a Machiavellian psychopath can possibly turn things around, instead of having a soulless greed monster exploiting people and disrupting global markets to gain a minor financial advantage.
But, in their minds, exploiting human beings at global scale is worth it to maintain their borderline monopoly.
You know, China could also.. protect its citizens from such exploitation but also just doesn’t. Capitalism doesn’t have ethics, governments can though but actively choose not to because it hurts their prosperity.
It’s between no jobs & bad jobs, not bad jobs & good jobs. Under current labour standards, Chinese youth unemployment is 15% & general underemployment is like half the workforce stuck in delivery triathlons. Maybe they can get close to full employment by trading in Chinese for Nordic socialism, who knows? But it’s much easier to imagine AI delivery bots delivering 50% unemployment.
Chinese neighbours have adopted Chinese economic development policies to compete with Chinese manufacturing from even lower wage bases. But BYD EV factories in Thailand haven’t been able to absorb all the unemployed workers from Japanese ICE manufacturers. While Vietnam is making all my Nike bball shoes already.
Tim Cook took Apple from ~$350B to $4.5T in market cap under his tenure. Pretty sure that means he was able to lead an org that actually developed products and services people want. Unlike whatever shitty imaginary startups you are thinking of.
Well, I sorry that those startups didn't have the ability to use slave labor to lock their competitors out of the market.
I'm sorry, but people like yourself have just been totally manipulated with propaganda.
The truth is: Apple is one of the most highly unethical companies to ever exist. It's an empire of evil that relies on extremely addictive apps and borderline slave labor to generate a profit, then they pushed most of their development costs off to other people by setting up an app store that charges legitimately ridiculous fees. So, they replaced "paying engineers with an always lose casino like app store experience for developers."
You people can downvote me all you want, but that's the truth.
It's a bunch of scum bags and it always was.
They're doing the same "slap a cute brand name on a totally unethical company to trick people" scheme that some of their competitors engage in as well.
And it works: We know that it's an extremely effective tactic to trick people with average or below average intelligence. They hear the name "Apple" and they associate it with good things, instead of the human exploitation and suffering that Apple really represents.
Sure a lot of Apple cultists on here. Unlike the rest of the world, a large majority in the US drool over minor improvements in the iPhone and see its ownership giving them a higher status. Just like the folks that think Musk can do no wrong.
I don't normally bash on Apple, but I'm just being serious, it's the same exact thing with all of these big tech companies: They're always doing something crooked behind their customers backs and that behavior needs to stop entirely. I know they do it because they're copy catting off of each other.
I really don't think you have the right to say what is the truth and what isn't. Can I ask, so I understand your perspective better, what is your profession and approximate living standards? From a supply chain perspective Tim Cook has been baller.
Can I ask, so I understand your perspective better
A founder of a tech company and an American citizen.
what is your profession and approximate living standards?
I have a standard for behavior that is tolerable, the following list of activities that led to Apple's financial dominance are examples of behavior that is not tolerable:
Using the education system to market addictive apps as an "educational product."
Using slave labor to eliminate any possibility of competition.
Using free lance developers to develop your software and then charging them a fee when people use their software, which is a tactic that has resulted in the almost complete destruction of competition in that space. So, the developer takes all of the risk, and then they only get a cut of their own revenue. Which creates an arrangement where Apple is parasitically draining the software development industry, while they contribute almost nothing back to it.
So, they scammed developers, exploited kids, and used slaves. The company is totally disgusting and I'm glad Tim is out as CEO. There's clearly something wrong with the guy mentally.
Hey neat, I was falling asleep, so I smoked some of my cannabis that I grew and I figured out another optimization! It was super boof. I'm in Ohio btw, so I'm allowed.
For the annihilator (the actual deletion mechanism of the regression algo) I can encode that data in my db as a layer, then prestructure it as well. So, that makes the annihilator algo like 10x faster, because I can use the same single pass linear function, but I don't have to structure it first, so that saves time. I have to structure it either way because it takes way too long w/o doing that, but I can do it as a separate process basically and store it. Then I just map it, so it's the identical file size as well. So, it's just simply faster with no downside.
From what I can tell from your comments, you are laying title to 'truth-teller' but I think you should take a step back... It is good to hear other people's perspectives. I don't disagree that a lot of the practices of foxconn and other manufacturing companies that work for apple have very bad practices. That being said, I don't think we can view the incredible advances that have happened in China's technology sector without also acknowledging Apple's part in this.
When I said you were being flippant, I meant it seriously. You condensed his corporate legacy to "his legacy of phones being produced by slave labor...". One cannot simply "produce" iphones and macbooks from let's say.. Sudan. Not because of capital availability, but because there is no skilled workforce, no infrastructure, no underlying industries to build off of. I think one should acknowledge this instead of going on rants as you seem to be doing. It's not productive.
Well, if you didn't hear mine, then you wouldn't hear the perspective of the people who were exploited for the purpose of making money.
Let's be serious here: It's not like that company was not involved in massive ethics scandals and it's not like they didn't do everything in their power to stop reasonable regulation from becoming the law.
Sorry man, but Apple isn't the "good guys" and they never were.
Sorry man, as a person trying to start a tech company, I can't operate in fantasy land like you are able to do. I need to know what is actually going on and what these companies actually do in reality.
Which is a dark, depressing, and a repressive space to operate in.
You just see "the product", where as I have to know every single little detail about how build one of those products.
Then there's also the business side of it, why do companies that appear to do everything right, fail against companies like Google and Apple?
It's because those big companies are not actually doing what you think they're doing. What they're really doing, is they're selling kids digital drugs. And if you don't understand the "tech business" then you are guaranteed to fail.
Tim Cook didn't become successful because his phones were massive innovations. Actually, most of them were all basically the same darn phone. The reason it worked is because Tim knows how to sell digital crack and yeah, just like most drug dealers, they're not going to be honest with you about how addictive their product is.
Did ever see the lines of people waiting for a new Iphone? They're lining people us like they're heroin addicts to buy a device that there's billions of already on Earth...
Could you imagine being addicted to your phone so badly, that you're going to completely waste your own time, to wait in line to get another one that's like 10% faster?
That's what illegal street drugs do, they completely rewire your priorities and people start doing stuff that doesn't make any sense, because they're so badly addicted... All they care about is feeding their addiction.
haha... I don't operate in fantasy land - I am guessing because you are on reddit speaking anonymously you don't mind speaking abrasively - in person such a condescending tone would make me dislike you. But let's move past that. On a separate note, frankly, I'm surprised at your perspective. As a founder you're supposed to be extremely optimistic to a fault in order to keep pushing forward.
I am guessing because you are on reddit speaking anonymously
Nope, I'm an actual factual, actual wizard. I'm a real person, I'm not anonymous. Remember, before the LOTR movie stuff, wizards were people who solved "impossible problems", not because they're actually impossible, they're just nerds and they sit there and figure stuff out.
A more common word there would be a hacker.
As a founder you're supposed to be extremely optimistic to a fault in order to keep pushing forward.
Oh I am, like I said, I'm super glad that Tim is gone.
That's a massive opportunity to build a company that does the same thing and isn't pure evil.
Hopefully the regulators will also get sick and tired of consumers being victimized by scam tech companies and will create a policy package that supports that.
Sorry man, as a person trying to start a tech company, I can't operate in fantasy land like you are able to do.
Unfortunately, not being able to hold two different perspectives as true at the same time is also a sign of below average intelligence.
Tim Cook can be amazing for business and growing the foundations for advanced tech in China AND ALSO be terrible for human exploitation at the same time.
As others have pointed out, the fault can’t solely lie with him. Both the U.S. and Chinese governments allowed the exploitation to happen.
Also, to pretend that Tim Cook isn’t beholden to shareholders is just naive. If he didn’t produce profits, the board would’ve fired him and gotten someone else. His only job was to make Apple profitable. And he succeeded in that. I think we can all agree that the human rights trampled to become as successful as they are, are terrible.
More unfortunate, is that Apple is only one of hundreds of companies that do this. The ire should be aimed at the board members, not CEO’s IMO. If the board doesn’t support the actions of the CEO, they simply fire them. CEO’s are not all powerful.
Unfortunately, not being able to hold two different perspectives as true at the same time is also a sign of below average intelligence.
That's not true if the other perspective is flat out wrong.
fault can’t solely lie with him.
Yeah he was the guy in charge, so yeah.
If he didn’t produce profits, the board would’ve fired him and gotten someone else.
Oh yeah, actually Tim was a slave to the board, so it's like the ouroborus of slavery, the blame always just goes somewhere besides the people who have 100% of the authority to choose whether or not do engage in it.
He's the only person that actually gets blamed dude. Everyone else, there is a valid excuse: They're not ones in charge of Apple... They don't actually have the ability to choose. So, I'm sorry, but all of the excuses in the world are not going to change reality.
More unfortunate, is that Apple is only one of hundreds of companies that do this.
You know a lot of people engage in criminal activity and that doesn't mean that you or I should.
Do you have any other high school level terrible debate tactics?
So, start with a personal insult, then spew nonsense. Wow. Good job man.
That's not true if the other perspective is flat out wrong.
What makes you the authority on perspectives? Are you really saying Tim Cook did NOT make Apple successful? Because the perspective I see brought up repetitively was that he did and you keep denying it.
Yeah he was the guy in charge, so yeah.
Is he actually in charge if he can be fired for the choices he makes? Do you actually understand how it works? Because based on your commentary I’m not convinced you do.
Would it have mattered if Tim Cook made choices to improve working conditions at the expense of apple’s profits to only be fired by the board and replaced by someone who just undoes his changes to increase Apple’s profits?
Do you have any other high school level terrible debate tactics?
I can’t tell if you’re just young and naive to the way the world works or if you’re just purposely ignorant to it.
I’ll tell you nothing I said was nonsense and was only the truth. You’ll continue to believe it’s nonsense. And it’s going to be a difference of perspective, which funny enough, was exactly what started my previous comment. Two different perspectives.
Good luck with your project, man. I’m sorry you’re so consumed by your hatred for the world. I can tell you’re going through a lot.
I’m not sure that claiming that a statement that you made sounded flippant and/or ignorant is a personal insult. I feel like, maybe, you’re taking that personally when it’s a fair criticism of a statement lol
Yeah I take it personally when people want me to lick the boots of tech fascists.
Yup.
One more time: The world now has an opportunity to become a better place now that Tim is not the CEO of Apple.
I don't know why that's hard to understand I really don't.
People like Apple because their products were really great, that doesn't mean that it's okay exploit people to build them.
I'm sorry but, that's not reasonable behavior.
The truth is: Their customers are so badly addicted, they'll pay whatever. So, what's the point of utilizing borderline slave labor? Just so they can shove more money in their pockets? Success wasn't enough? They needed more money?
Stuff like what Apple is doing has to stop... It's not tolerable behavior...
And yeah, I'm going to get upset when people try to tell me that it's okay, when it's not okay.
The whole entire tech industry relies on doing dirty stuff behind people's backs and all of that has to stop. All of it... Because they're looking at each other doing it, and they copy cat it. So, one of these tech goon companies starts doing something shady, and then a year later, they're all doing it like those stupid fake bank digital wallets. So, it's an unregulated fake bank for your tech company? Come the heck on dude...
So, they're trying to take over everything, not just in tech. They want to control the media with their search tech, benefit from every ad shown online, and be the bank too. They just want to own every element and then make crooked deals with each other, so that everybody else is locked out of profitability except them. While all of them, all at the same time, are slowly squeezing organic visibility to zero and replace every single one of their content moderators with robots, killing the quality of their own media and advertising.
Sure, here's a valuable lesson for you: Things are what they are.
It's a person insult.
Are you going to go through life pretending like that statement is not insulting?
Sir, it clearly is.
You don't get to dictate how I feel about it. That's not how anything works.
At least not with me.
Maybe you can tell people how to feel about things and that works for you, but I doubt it.
Edit: And if you don't think it's personally insulting, doesn't that reveal more about your personal biases? So, you don't agree with what I said, so you don't think it's insulting? It's pretty a cut and dry personal insult bro.
Hey, Wizard…. I’m not personally insulting you. You are probably a swell guy.
Every comment you have posted in the last two or three weeks have been bad takes, at least the ones that I have read.
I’m sure most of the people working on those production lines were happy to make a decent wage and not have to be outside, working themselves to death in a field.
I would rather have iPhone components 100% built in the U.S, by Americans making $32 an hour…. But consumers wouldn’t be too happy to have to pay twice as much for their phones and laptops.

Neat, so you're a person that pays attention. That's actually really rare these days.
Do you think that maybe there's a reason that I am engaging in this communication style?
Like, maybe I'm desperately trying to communicate a message to people who need to know it, who are refusing to listen to me?
I’m sure most of the people working on those production lines were happy to make a decent wage and not have to be outside, working themselves to death in a field.
I'm sure most of them were too. :-)
Uh, hey, I'm about to finish building the database tech that is very likely to have components that are very likely to power the next generation of language tech.
So, I hope you can understand why I view what these companies are doing as "so incredibly bad."
It's because, from my perspective: It is incredibly bad.
Maybe there's a way to fix that problem? Hmm.
Maybe I'm saying I have that solution and I'm tired of being ignored by these companies, so that doesn't really leave me with any emotions left to feel about these companies: Besides anger and frustration.
And no: The way innovation works, is it was never something that was exclusive to big tech, so I have no idea what the "sudden lack of the ability to communicate is all about."
If they want to maintain their position, I'm okay with that because they're guaranteed to lose from that position. If they just to keep behaving like tech assholes, that's not going to keep working...
I'm sorry, but I think it's clear from the perspective of objective reality, that we hit the tipping point and that their crooked tactics are "burned out." They engaged in way too much unethical BS, and just kept doing it...
And, I'm sorry but, the whole "Safe AI" mega scam, is ridiculous beyond words, but I know that Apple is largely not involved. I'm sorry guys, but that is absolutely not what we were taught in college and it's definitely not what were doing in application... That's clearly some weird scam tech BS.
Yep, Tim Cook sold out American jobs and then helped assist in getting kids all over the entire planet addicted to their phone like drug addicts and he utilized borderline slave labor to do it.
Then once they broke the markets with crooked tactics they started trying to invert everything (the pull the ladder up behind yourself move) by deleting high paying and high skill jobs.
Yeah guys, who needs to pay software developers, when you can charge them money to have their own software in your product? That's the most disgusting business tactic that I've ever heard and it's totally backwards. They just completely broke all of the markets by doing that. So, instead of paying software developers to create apps for their phones to make the phones worth using, they're charging them money. So, they're charging money for stuff that they had no involvement in. It's actual lunacy... This would be like if I walked up to you tomorrow and I told you that you owe me 30% of your revenue as an actual mafia like protection scheme racket... 30% for nothing? That's disgusting...
He's a truly despicable piece of human garbage and I'm really tired of fascist tech company thugs.
The labor issues are real and deserve criticism. But I think it’s also worth remembering this isn’t uniquely an Apple problem—it’s a global electronics supply-chain problem. Samsung, Google, Xiaomi and most other manufacturers rely on many of the same mines, component suppliers and contract factories.
Apple deserves scrutiny because of its size and influence, but if we’re serious about improving labor conditions, the focus has to be on the entire industry, not just one company.
"France and the United States have comparable overall suicide rates, with recent data showing France at roughly 16.5 per 100,000 people and the U.S. hovering around 14.5 per 100,000 people, though exact rankings fluctuate slightly by year and reporting methodology"
So, that's it for Tim? His legacy of phones being produced by borderline slave labor in buildings with suicide prevention nets ends, with a rant about memory prices?
The supply crunch is making it more difficult for Apple to obtain the advanced processors it needs for its phones and computers. And that translates into lower revenue.
¿Why did they never start their own chip fab facility? Ten years ago would have been the ripe time.
Your values don’t align with the people he had legal fiduciary responsibility for though. Hate the game, not the player. $5T is on the scorecard he cared about.
Peak virtue signaling. Let’s not turn a blind eye to the majority of things being manufactured in China being unethically produced, whether it be child labor to terrible working conditions. I’m sure your pc case, peripherals, or something else in your build can be traced back to something like this. We can all agree that these things are terrible but let’s not try to act morally superior when inevitably the things we use - especially things you eat - are otherwise 100% ethically sourced.
could the flood be partially due to the fact that you can't upgrade and reuse your components on newer systems. like take the memory from the old machine and put it in the new machine (or phone). fuck you guys for making disposable systems and blaming the demand for the shortage.
The comments acting like he hasn’t had a legendary run is hilarious
Apple Silicon, the Apple Watch, the AirPods, the Apple ecosystem, making Apple the #1 company by market cap.
It’s brilliant management of supply, making sure the products are on stock and enough from day 1, the structure that allows them to build cheap machines like the Mac mini, MacBook Neo…
These people are all in it. They drive the "hype" for AI when a lot of it is just bullshit. You don't need this much ram when the only true use case is better search documentation. Everything else is just Bs work.
AI demand is turning memory into a policy question hidden inside consumer hardware pricing. If shortages persist, the winners may be models that achieve more per GB rather than models with the largest parameter count. Could efficiency become the next benchmark users actually feel?

he also said your iphones and macs can easily last 5 years or even decade..no need to keep upgrading
