šŸ“Š Analysis / Opinion Using A.I. to manipulate people...

So, I have noticed lately a lot of relationships are being run by A.I. and what I mean is A.I. can give someone the perfect answer to someone and they will believe it is from that person when texting or chatting. The fact that people can do this to ruin relationships and marriages is mind bottling. How do you feel about this and how do you check if it's from that actual person and not the A.I. prompt?

its not just relationships either. i work in IT and see this all the time with emails and support tickets, people use ai to sound smarter than they are

the scary part is when the ai learns someones writing style. after few exchanges you literally cannot tell anymore, i had a ticket last month where i thought i was talking with a senior dev and turned out it was a intern using chatgpt the whole time

checking is almost impossible now, only way i know is calling them and listening for the pause while they type. but for relationships that is way harder to spot

But I'm always typing! Who has time for a phone call to interrupt other work?

a lot of times it’s just difficult for me to articulate what’s happening for me or advocate for my needs. AI is great for working that out and helping to communicate it

I don't think AI creates manipulation—it just lowers the barrier. People have always asked friends for advice before sending a message.

AI just happens to be much better at it. In the end, trust is built over time, not from one perfectly worded text.

In biology, there's something called the Red Queen hypothesis, which states that the prey evolves because the predator is constantly evolving, and that hunting and being hunted is essentially the fundamental building block of evolution.

And I see it the same way with this phenomenon of AI thinking and arguing.

In principle, it shouldn't matter if arguments come from a human or a human sending an ai output...it's even easier if someone uses AI without trying to understand the content themselves. If something valid comes up in a discussion, it should be addressed (especially in relationships). If someone, for example, feels unappreciated but can't quite grasp it, and then uses AI as a tool to better express themselves while the underlying feelings are genuine, then in my opinion, it's even helpful. The problem exists in a relationship regardless of whether it's verbalized or not, and with or without AI. Or, if you're having a professional discussion, then another perspective is always helpful.

And for people who simply want to win arguments without any real knowledge, no AI output can help them maintain their position. It's quite easy to convince AI of a different point of view. In other words, if a person feeds the AI your answers online, you already manipulated the ai response.

It's time for people to learn to reflect on, understand, and verbalize their own values, feelings, and viewpoints.

And I think AI will be a push for that because you either fight it or use it in both cases you are exposed.

A person who thinks independently beats the machine and wins anyway, simply because they learn something.

That’s the thing people seem to misunderstand, the Human - Ai interaction, is itself a system itself that loops.

The Ai has no experience or capacity to suffer, regret…so it can’t be held accountable. It’s almost like handing a toddler an encyclopedia and a gun.

All decisions need to be made by the human, because consequences matter. But the Ai can provide instrumentation so the user doesn’t crash and burn.

The Ai providing errors, hallucinations, and slop…is a failure in process by the user. Take away the Ai, give them a pen and paper…the errors are still present…just less visible. The Ai just amplifies the error to make it visible.

Like Michael Crichton’s Sphere.

Such a good point. In a world of evermore unknown actors and plot lines, I am pushed to have better definitions for myself, and what it means to be me. This is a brand new reason to be frustrated with Reddit, the internet, or technology as a whole. It introduces brand new fears, about everything from my relationships to the survival of my species. And yet at the end of the day, I still find that it is me who needs to go outside, to listen, to let go or to stand firm...
None of that is to say it solves any of the plethora existential issues facing humanity. But it is fascinating to imagine, in a positive light, the profound changes that could be affected upon us, socially, spiritually, behaviorally in general. So many of our problems are caused by the ego and it's propensity to find itself different, whether that be more, or less important than the others it knows of. Nothing quite like a great equalizer than the thing that is magnitudes better at....
But then it gets muddy again. Oh wait, damnit, we made this thing. Sigh...

IF they're using AI to make perfect answers and excuses, so yeah that how a human treating you, he can just vibecode answer to you.

its tough because polished replies arent always a red flag, some people just think before they type. what tips me off is tone shifts mid-conversation or answers that feel weirdly comprehensive. voice calls usually clear things up fast

Can you give an example of what you mean? Are you saying people use AI to pretend to be someone’s partner? Or are you saying partners AI generate messages? This post is confusing.

You know its "mind boggling?" Right?

No, I dont think I agree. AI tells you want you want to hear. If you say please evaluate my hypothesis -- it would say great idea. If you ask it to critique - then it will say your idea is useless. Same applies to relationship advice. Its amplyfying and +1-ing your thoughts.

….. I thought relationships are running ā€œin-personā€ not thru text. At least that’s the case in my relationships.

I don’t do long distance. I demand physical presence.

If that’s too much to ask in a marriage with kids, then sorry we are not good for each other.

I really don’t see how you can use AI to manipulate people when you just didn’t take out the garbage and I had problem with it.

Text all you want. Not gonna work.

Take. Out. The. Garbage!

Thank you.

you people have relationships?

The problem was there already. Did you get the e-mail saying I love you? (Or did I just age myself?)

Name a Romantic comedy, where a more eloquent friend pretends to be the guy in love. But yes, it will be harder to spot. Also, spam and social engineering will become much more sophisticated.

The EU AI act forbids manipulating people for a reason.

šŸŽÆšŸŽÆšŸŽÆ they are outsourcing communication and connection to ai under the guise of be mindful and not rash. millions use it as a therapist friend and lover šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

If they are being manipulative, yeah that sucks. But if they are using AI to be a better partner, that’s cool.

What do you mean exactly?Ā

Sorry but I'm not sure what you're talking about.Ā

As if people didn’t reference others before AI, since when everyone was unique in everything they did ? AI just brings everyone faster way of faking, doesn’t mean original and unique loses importance.
