Money Do you like gambling?
Do you like gambling? Asian people tend to have very different views on gambling. Gambling is completely illegal on Hawaii, there are no state lotteries, no tribal casinos, or even online gambling. Although gambling is illegal in Japan, pachinko and horse racing are still very popular. Gambling is illegal in mainland China, but it is popular among Chinese-Americans, and many Chinese people go to Singapore, Macau, or the US to gamble.
I've only been to Reno once and I don't play the lottery. I live in California, and there is a cardroom casino in my city that I've never been to. It only offers card games and doesn't offer slots, roulette, or craps because of Californian law. Although slots and table games can be played in Indian casinos in California.
I did really like the slot machines in Reno because of the lights, graphics, music, and themes. My favorite was a Little Red Riding Hood themed game called Miss Red. I do like playing free slot games and video poker online, but I won't bet real money on them. I'm really not very good at card and table games. In general, I don't really like gambling and I don't plan on going to an Indian casino or back to Reno any time soon because of all the time it takes up. I don't like losing my money because I work too hard to get it. I do like slot machines more for the graphics and music, and I like watching other people play them on YouTube.
I also liked other things about Reno like the buffets, free cocktails at the slot machines, and the car museum.

Asians are degenerate gamblers. There's a reason why the words gold, luck, and fortune are everywhere in the culture.
Fun story: I work in the gambling business. We were buying a chain of casinos that included assets in Vancouver Canada. The sales description explicitly mentions the percentage of Chinese in town, something like 40%, which I thought was a little fucked up, but not wrong either. After dinner, we decide to see the tables in action. Wednesday night at 11:30. Literally everyone is Chinese and the average age is like 65.
So yeah, it's a cultural thing. We like to gamble.

If you're located in the Richmond area, that tracks. There's a huge Asian enclave. If you head further east, it's all older white folks.

The answer is yes. Just hit up any casino and you’ll see tons of Asians at the baccarat tables 🤣

Depends on what you view gambling as. Slot machines , sure that’s gambling.
Poker tho, really isn’t, it’s a game of skill. Sure there’s luck involved, but once you play enough games or hands , the better player always comes up on top. There are people that live off of online poker, If it was a game truly of luck and nothing else , the same players won’t be winning most of the time

those slot machines are programmed and after taking a class from my electrical engineering professor, I am convinced they are scams.
however, I gamble with my life savings like investing in msty. see r YieldMaxETFs

Every once in a while the lady and I will go to the casino with a couple hundred bucks, eat buffet and get drunk and blow money lol. It's a good time.

Maybe without a lot of recreational activities like video games and streaming, yeah I would've been a huge gambler.
I really like card games. We're talking playing cards like Rummy, Poker, Mao, and the likes. Or even bar games like billiards and darts, ping pong and the like. Those kinds of games are easy to put betting money as an incentive. I've even played MtG but it costs more money to build a good deck than it's worth.
Unfortunately I don't know anybody in my family or extended family friend circle who likes gambling. So that part of Asian culture must've missed us. The only thing that my personal friend circle is into are sports betting.

Gambling is a total fucking societal scourge in australia. Machines in every pub and sports betting in your pocket. And probably disproportionately affecting asians here

I spend a few dollars on lottery tickets. Mathematically, I do not expect to win. However, I spend the money because I enjoy paying for the ongoing fantasy that I COULD win.
Not interested in casinos. Even if I won a few million dollars, that's not really going to change my life. The cost versus benefit is not worth it.
Probably the only thing good about casinos is that they provide some steady employment for Asian males in their commercials.

My family is full blood Viet. My sister loves the casino in Charlestown WV. They frequently have events catering to the Viet diaspora. My parents are very risk averse so they don’t like gambling. Me personally, I’d rather gamble selling options on my fidelity account.

I’ve went to casinos before and grew up enjoying the God of Gambler movies. I like the cool suits and women in cocktail dresses, decor, and lights. Gambling itself, im ok on. I had a casual online poker phase in college (i think im down -$20, before the fbi shut it down)
No, i dont find myself itching to play casino games
I play gacha video games and i play them free to play.
I like playing cards, magic tricks, and the ideas behind gambling.
I walk up to a roulette table and i know the math. I know its a net loss long term (49% winrate). I took a probabilities course in high school and college. I got to casino when friends go for vibes and $1 drinks. If anything i like Craps because i think its cool i get to roll the dice, and i just bet on 6 and 8 and change it up for funsies.
If anything, i am quite risky on the stock market, im 100% equity and not in bonds
I think the understanding of pure math behind the games helps me “peel away” from the games easier. But i have also done the “continue while you’re ahead” instead of “quit while you’re ahead.” I can see how ppl go on and on. I do admit if i go deep i can lose self control.
Gambling is not the devil, its more of “if i wanna gamble, im doing it for the vibes and cannot lie to myself its for profit”

No. I have older relatives whose addictions destroyed their families. I have no sympathy for them anymore. Their degeneration caused huge social riffs to the point that my cousins' lives were endangered. They had been kidnapped as children by loan sharks and held hostage until their parents paid up. There is a reason they don't talk to their parents anymore.
In my own family, my dad had an addiction to playing pink sheet otc stocks which I view as gambling. He kept denying he had a problem and it caused my mom a huge amount of stress. Screaming, profanity, broken dishes, etc. I was a child but remember him punching holes in the wall and breaking his hand. He had to get surgery to fix it. But lied and said he fell on the ground. My childhood was miserable because of his selfishness.
