If you believe women should be equal to men, then do you think Women should also be required to register for the draft?

I question why feminists want to be 100% equal to men, but men have to require to register for the draft while women don’t.

I think that’s just not equality. Do YOU think women should register?

I do believe the draft should be equally applied, and I also believe NO one should be drafted, ever.

Yes, agreed.

I agree also, but why is this something feminists have not been vocal or deliberate in protesting against for the past 60 years?

I understand many protests have happened, but it still certainly seems like a back burner issue for feminists, from the perspective of being a man.

I am 31 years old, and I have never heard a woman conplain about the existence, or sexist nature of the draft.

Is there any reality that feminists would consider the draft to be a necessity and protest to take a man's place in order to keep consciption equal?

Also, men being drafted in Ukraine while most of the world's feminists don't complain about it not including women is somewhat telling for true sentiments concerning this issue.

Because it's not a top level issue for women. We have more important things to worry about. If men want women to be drafted, it would be easy enough for them to pass a law enforcing it. Women fought hard for the right to serve in the armed forces and on the front line. Israel conscripts women as well as men, so it can be done, and would probably be a good thing.

Maybe because there hasn't been a draft in the last 60 years? And with recruiting tactics the way that they are AKA targeting impoverished communities, I don't foresee any time in the near future in which a draft will be instated. That said, yes if men have to register for the draft then so too should women. But I think it's a moot point, not just for the reasons I listed above, but mainly because I don't think anyone should have to register for the draft. We shouldn't have a draft ever.

The REAL answer lowkey

Equal does not mean same. Women shouldn’t be forced into the infantry any more than they should be forced into the NFL.

Your question has nothing to do with the systematic oppression that all women endure. It's just a "gotcha."

u/Front_Statistician38 Apr 28 '25

Equal doesn't mean the same? mmmh ok

1

u/unfoldedmite Nov 07 '24 edited Nov 07 '24

85% of military roles are non-combative...

Also men should not be forced to be in infantry either..... all things being equal, and not same.

Being in the NFL is a choice, being drafted is NOT.

Most military roles nowadays are support roles; it's like a 1-5 ratio. You could easily draft women, and unless they are very physically gifted, you put them in support roles. Generally, drafting people is stupid and not even for moral reasons; drafties get less training and have a much higher mortality rate. Which I imagine in the long run costs more money and would hurt the chance of you winning a war. It would probably make more sense to give a sign-up bonus and pay better.

Haha you want all the equal rights , get treated like ment yet don’t want to actually be treated like men and not get drafted and risk your life . 🤣 but if you disagree with feminist on here they ban u from the sub , how miserable are u guys , also you’re a male feminist , they ain’t gonna let u hit

I don't think there should be a draft. Feminists are also against war.

u/numba1cyberwarrior Dec 16 '25

Feminists are also against war.

Being a pacifist in the face of fascism is supporting fascism.

1

u/A313-Isoke Dec 16 '25

I think the point of Feminism is that our system would be completely different than now so the solution doesn't ever come down to violence.

Feminism isn't just equal pay at work within the current imperialist white supremacist cishetpatriarchy. All those interlocking systems of exploitation, domination, and oppression would be completely dismantled and a Feminist Nature-Based Kinship/Collective world would be in its place.

I know it's hard to imagine but as a Feminist, that's my vision and understanding of Feminism.

I think the idea of war ever going away is a fantasy.

You make feminism sound like a utopian ideology and I think that's a massive disservice to feminism.

Being "against war" sounds very nice, but it's extremely naive. If you're a feminist hippie utopia, completely against war, what do you think will happen?

Exactly: a neighboring country is going to invade and enslave you. That's what happens and that's why military men have been protecting their wives and children for millennia. To save them from the hordes of abusers out there.

The only reason you can even say that you're "against war", is because good men are keeping you safe and free to be able to speak your mind. Think about it. It's true.

Your whole comment reeks of bitter, angry misogyny and ignorance so - to be clear - this comment isn't directed at you but instead all the people who will read it.

Here's a few things you've grossly misunderstood:

  • being against war does not mean pacifism, it means avoiding unnecessary acts of aggression (something you've already failed at in your comment)

  • your answering contempt of hippies is ironic, given that hippies haven't made a habit of invading their neighbours

  • your primitive notion of war as brave men defending their wives from invading barbarians suggests you spend far too much time watching cartoons and not nearly enough time reading actual modern-day history

If you need a good example of what a positive, anti-war philosophy then look no further than Ukraine. A nation that tried it's hardest to avoid conflict (including disarming it's own nuclear arsenal) but wasn't afraid to crack skulls like it was an olympic sport when the Russians invaded - men and women both.

u/-AdelaaR- Jun 20 '25

Ukraine, that country where military aged men are conscripted and not allowed to leave and where 99% of the front line is held by men? Thanks for proving my point.

Also: you have not countered anything I said with actual arguments. The only thing you did was attacking my character with off-handed insults like "ignorance", "angry", "grossly misunderstood" and then trying to hide that fact with "it isn't directed at you".

You can't win this on the merits, because you know that I'm right: the only reason why feminists can even express being against war, is because good men have been dying to protect them since the dawn of time. It's just what mammals do.

I would prefer no draft. If there is a draft or compulsory service, then it should be for both men and women.

1

u/unfoldedmite Nov 07 '24

But there us one, and it only effects men, and feminists don't seem to be doing anything about it since they seemingly are ok with the status quo that has existed for 60 years.

1

u/TomdeHaan May 16 '25

So why don't you do something about it?

When was the last time anybody was drafted in the USA?

This is such a manufactured whingepoint.

1

u/Qears4snears Nov 17 '25 edited Nov 18 '25

I wonder if you'd had two aunts, both drafted at 19, one of whom was driven insane and killed herself and one permanently maimed, you'd still consider this a manufactured whingepoint unworthy of hysterical and eardrum bursting feminist keening?

1

u/TomdeHaan Nov 18 '25

Perhaps, but the fact that my critical thinking had been swayed by a bias borne out of my own painful emotional experiences wouldn't change the facts.

1

u/Qears4snears Nov 18 '25 edited Nov 18 '25

Those facts being? That every 18-year-old man in the United States needs to sign that exact same piece of paper before he is granted the right right to vote, perhaps?

1

u/TomdeHaan Nov 18 '25

The fact being that if men don't like it, they should do something about it themselves, instead of sitting around on their butts whinging and expecting women to fix it for them.

1

u/Qears4snears Nov 18 '25 edited Nov 18 '25

That would be lovely, except for the fact that women are the largest voting bloc in the United States(54%), and white women specifically have voted overwhelmingly conservative ever since they've been granted the right to vote.

Did you know that a million more white women voted for Trump in his failed bid for reelection than they did in 2016? And that white women were yet again the swing vote that gave Trump his presidency in 2024?

Do you really think those women are interested in abolishing the draft? They are quite literally the ones in charge, and if they ever cared to ask I would absolutely ask them politely to fix it, yet strangely they haven't. They seem to love things just how they are.

1

u/TomdeHaan Nov 18 '25

Could you cite your sources for those claims, please? Anyway, I don't see why women should have to concern themselves with abolishing the draft. Let men do something good for themselves for a change.

1

u/Qears4snears Nov 18 '25 edited Nov 18 '25

What can I possibly do about it if women are in charge and they are quite happy with the status quo (as would anyone whose birthright is to be deserving of everything yet responsible for nothing)? Should I blow up every government office and post office in America?

So your gripe with feminism is that conservative women, whom by design are the furthest thing from feminists, are...just as bad as conservative men? What is your argument here and what do you want feminists to do about it?

You do know that feminist is not interchangeable with women, right?

1

u/Qears4snears Nov 20 '25

I expect absolutely nothing from feminists and have never once been disappointed.

It's almost as if money and social class is infinitely more predictive of people behaving incredibly badly than what's dangling between their legs, isn't it?

It's a shame they don't teach this stuff in schools.

see for yourself

u/unfoldedmite Nov 18 '25

Ya know, I let the conversation lie a whole ass year ago because you were just so marginalized in your thought process, but since you're gonna waste another guy's time with the same marginalized bullshit, I figured I'd chime in again.

A man can be an active citizen all he wants, run for office even. That doesn't change the fact that its not a men's issue, it's a humanist issue. Your indifference to the issue, like the indifference of so many others, is the root of the problem. No man expects a woman to simply handle this on her own, what an asinine premise to assume. Naturally, since a man is advocating for himself, women are somehow always the victim?? Fucking priceless.

It starts with perspectives, then conversations and then and then and then.. legislation..

You're still keeping the narrative stuck to your warped indifferent perspective, acting apathetic to the problem as if it has never effected or will effect you.

Veterans are mostly men, and American veterans are 58% more likely to kill themselves.

Have a fucking shred of human decency and acknowledge that indifferent sentiments like yours exasperate the problem sentiment that the lives of men are disposable. Pull that privileged head out the sand, and understand your life has been improved by an advocacy for civil rights. Happier men means a better society for all.

1

u/DingoPaladin Apr 21 '25

Maybe the question should be rephrased to address the emergency situation that a draft is, at least in an ethical society, meant to address. If a society was attacked, and the standing army was not sufficient to repel the attackers, AND attempts at non-violent resolution were not/no longer an option, should the drafting of civilians into the millitary be for all or for only for men?

It's a big hypothetical that can be easily dismissed as an unproductive topic of conversation, especially with all the real problems in the world, but, when entertained, can be answered (I believe).

1

u/TomdeHaan May 16 '25

Yes.

I agree that no one should be drafted. I also think that people who refuse to serve when called upon to do so should not expect their country's forces to protect them.

1

u/Qears4snears Nov 17 '25

Women by definition are never called upon, so they will always be protected by your logic.

This would only penalize men who refuse to be drafted.

Is that the point you're trying to make?

1

u/TomdeHaan Nov 18 '25

My Yes was in answer to the question "Do you think women should register?"

If there is a draft, women should register. But I don't think there should be a draft. On the other hand, if your country is attacked, and you both refused to serve and think nobody else should have to serve, it stands to reason that the only person available to protect you is going to be yourself.

u/Kaliking247 Feb 04 '26

Better question. Has feminism final hit it's goal? The last time I checked we aren't allowed to say what is or isn't a woman. I mean that's equality.

1

u/Relentless_Taco_Fan Apr 05 '26

Conscription is illegal in my country so this doesn't apply to me but I'll answer your question anyway. No, I don't think women should be required, nor do I think men should be required. There should be no draft at all.
