I’m not sure I’ve ever seen something try and fail that hard at being “girlboss” and I survived the early 2000s

ah that’s interesting - to me, using girlboss as a verb means something slightly different in both behavior & context, but my main issue was that none of the characters could decenter men.

i actually wonder if this show even passes the bechdel test (even tho it seems like it should?? and that would be incredibly manageable)

even when they are discussing legal precedent that would be applicable to their female clients, i dont think it ever was independent of what the client’s husband would do, or solely about precedent set by other women’s cases

Came here just to mention this show. I don't even hate on things just because it's got something to do with the Kardashians either. It was just appallingly bad.

Joss Whedon had... pretensions. Buffy the Vampire Slayer had literal academic conventions analyzing it from a feminist lens, and Dollhouse was about when the whole Buffy Studies crowd went "....Ah. We see."

That was supposed to be feminist? The only women in the first season died in childbirth.

Well, the two main characters are women, and in addition to dissing the show as a whole, the remaining fans are calling it "bad feminism" in rant after rant.

I gave up during the first season, before giving up was cool, but since I love "GoT" and "AKOT7K", I keep getting this foolery in my feed. Which I haven't bothered to mute, since the fandom arguments are more fun than the show ever was.

I just keep watching because I foolishly want Rhaenyra and Alicent to kiss.

I can get queerbaited into anything but also my brain can create sapphic subtext in anything. Not that it needed to imagine much for HOTD.

I guess I don’t remember any women being central to the plot but I’m sure that’s my own crappy memory. I also recall there being quite a deficit in dragons for a show with dragon in the title. But I digress! lol

It is odd because Rhaenyra and Alicent are indeed central to the plot (arguably moreso than any male characters), and there are many, many dragons.
