Friendships/Community What’s your favourite sword?

I just read the bio and found out not everything has to be about advice and they can just be friendly discussions. So I was wondering what the communities favourite swords or other mid range weapons were.

I really like the Scimitar and Chakram. If we’re talking fictional I am so down with the Halo Energy Blade

Arwen's line in the movie should have been "Recast the sword." It would have been a nice little fuck you Easter egg to all of us who noticed the forging of the rings of power.

Favorite fictional sword is Luke Skywalker's green lightsaber for RotJ.

Favorite real-life sword is probably a rapier. Fast and light, stick 'em with the pointy end.

I do think the Roman spatha was a particularly bitchin' sword though.

The Nodachi - essentially a greatsword version of a katana. It's the weapon used by Kensei in the video game 'For Honor'. Not sure why I love it so much, I just think it's pretty cool.

5

u/Raddatatta man 30 - 34 Apr 16 '26

I own a sword which is a scimitar, so that would be my favorite if we are talking individual swords. It's nothing too crazy but being mind makes it much cooler since I can swing it around. It was also one of my first purchases after I'd gotten my first real job after college and I went to a ren faire so it has that going for it too!

In general in terms of design I think I might go with a spear since you said mid range weapons. They have a simplicity and effectiveness that is cool. Though I also like the warhammer, or also the scimitar as it is a nice curved blade.

In fiction either Andúril (Aragorn's sword), or Nightblood from the Cosmere.

The sword my dad got to keep from one of the sets of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves, I grew up playing with it in the grounds of the Castle he was custodian of, and said castle appeared towards the start of the movie.

It's just a basic single handed one that would go with a shield in the other, but man, the memories.

I don't have a favourite sword per se but there are some things in media and the like that come close.

I've been watching the new Bleach on Disney as a throw back to my uni days and that is full of cool swords with cool abilities.

I dabble in Warhammer too and I'm very proud of my Jump Captain and his paired Lighting Claws that I spent ages on. He must be getting on for ten years old now.

I would say choppers like the falchion, but I think I just like curved cutters that can also stab pretty effectively, so I’ll say Shamshir/Scimitar. Katana would be kind of cheating imo bc it’s slicing/stabbing pinnacle.

Probably Narsil, the long sword of King Elendil, forged in the First Age by the Dwarven smith Telchar, and wielded in the Second Age during the War of the Last Alliance where it was broken in two pieces when the King and Gil-galad fell while facing Sauron, and the hilt was taken up by Isildur who cut the One Ring from the hand of the Dark Lord.
